I am not sure how I will ever not ride carbon areo wheels. I had a hard time believing the wheels made me faster but I was faster. The ride is much smoother and of course the carbon wheels looks good. I rode a pair of Dur-ace C50 tubular wheels that had about 10,000 miles on the wheel set from the RealCyclist Pro Team. The team has had zero problems with the wheels which is impressive since I have seen Easton wheels be problematic.

Very durable and the price is right

I put about 800 miles on these tires and I was blown away at their durability. I bought the tires because my expensive Continental tires sidewall split from the bead. Continental replaced the tires but I need something to tide me over. These tires beat my expectations so I left the tires much longer than I thought I would. They don't corner very well and as Nate said they may not be a beautiful tire to ride but they are well worth the money. I hit 50 miles per hour several times and never had worry. The picture is what the tire looked like after 800 miles. What you can't see form the picture is the tire was totally flat nothing round about this tire after some use.

I started off with the Sirrus SL which I still own today. These Pac-LIte Gore-Tex jackets are incredibly durable and lightweight. I use these shells year round in my ski and bike packs. I have never gotten wet or had a seam or zipper blow out over the past 8 years. This is simply the highest quality most functional shell you can own.

Ridley first debuted the Damocles in 2004, when its radical tapered headset and moulded tubes caused quite a stir. The head tube design was the subject of many a debate regarding the benefit of an even larger set of bearings to that of the comparatively new 1-1/8in standard – now it seems that almost all large manufactures are incorporating the design in their top road rigs.

Fast forward six years and the Damocles may no longer top Ridley's range but it remains largely unchanged. Current Italian road race champion Filippo Pozzato actually favours the integrated seatpost version of this frame over the Helium, Noah and Excalibur. He was aboard a custom version as he floated over the cobbles of Northern France on his way to second place at Paris-Roubaix last year.

Putting the Damocles through its paces on the roads surrounding Sydney, we were pleasantly impressed. It's the small changes that have improved this frame, some of which other manufactures may well be inclined to follow suit on.

The biggest single change from previous versions is the replaceable dropouts on both the drive and non-drive sides, which attach to the frame via three very sturdy looking M5 bolts ensuring crisp, consistent shifting. Scandium is now used for both dropouts and the bottom bracket shell – previously there was a choice of titanium or alloy.

The tapered 1-1/8in-1-1/4in head tube which provides the Damocles with reliable and confidence inspiring steering remains, as do its beautifully sculpted tubes. Looking closely at the frame, you will quickly notice that no two tubes are the same shape, and the internal cable routing adds a touch of class. The triangulated down tube adds torsional stiffness, while the beefed up head tube/top tube junction keeps the front end stable over even the roughest roads.

These design elements have been beautifully transferred from drawing board to the road, and the Damocles does it all with ease – climbing, sprinting, cornering or simply driving a big gear on a flat road. The frame may be a touch on the heavy side but it rides much lighter than its 1,200g weight would suggest.

Titanium is know for being stiff yet supple. Titanium absorbs the bumps and is stiff as hell when you climb. Carbon has almost taken titanium off the market because carbon is stiff and supple with better shapes and frame design options. If you like Litespeed they are making carbon bikes and they are amazing. Can't go wrong with Pinarello either but the carbon LItespeeds deserve a look.

It is rare you can only change your chain. If you have worn the chain to the point it is slipping you will likely need to replace your cassette too. Replacing just the chain will result in slippage because the cassette teeth are worn to the old chain.
