First, I have to say, WOW! This thing's warm, light, comfortable, functional, and stylish. That alone should give it a full five stars, and I'm really tempted to do so, but alas, I won't - at least lot for now. I know some people like to knit-pick others' reviews if an opinion or rating relates to personal preferences rather than specifics about the items themselves, but in my books at this point, the cumbersome pullover logistics of this 1/2-Zip won't let me give this jacket top marks.
That's not to say I have a problem with it being a 1/2-Zip, because even suggesting that would beg the question: "Why did you buy a 1/2-Zip if that's not what you wanted?!?". I know it's available in a full zip. I also don't believe that if a size L is too small, that should impact how the jacket is rated, regardless of whether or not it's a loose-fit or a technical cut. Usually those kinds of complaints tend to point-out more about the ability to figuring out which size of jacket should be ordered, and possibly a deeper understanding of and comfort with one's own body size and image.
I actually enjoy not having a zipper a all the way down, and feel like it's tailor to fit me perfectly when I'm in the middle of using it, regardless of what I layer under or over it. That's could actually be another plus, considering the full range of Marmot jackets, sweaters and shirts that complement this piece. Still, the two specific problems I find, are that:
a:) unlike several other pullovers of various sizes I've owned and worn at different times,
this thing's not all that comfortable to get into or out of, and more specifically,
b:) the elastic cuffs tend to be a bit too snug to be able to easily get my hands in and out,
or to be able to check my wrist watch quickly.
All-in-all, I'd rate it a 4.8, but since we can't give or take away fractions of a star, I need to leave some room for any improvements it's successor might bring. Otherwise, I can't see anyone being disappointed with this buy!
