i havnt owned any day packs in the past but it would be hard to compare to the talon. it fits everything you need for a day trip. rain gear lunch SOL kit a change of clothes and thats about it. has a good place to store your trekking poles and is hydration compatible. have used it several times now and am still pleased i picked out an osprey pack
