Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2011

I finally exchanged my old sturdy Black Diamond X-15 for a pair of these in january. Been using em several times since then, and I must say they are really good. Lightweight and cool looking. Swing nicely and penetrates ice like a porn star ;) I use em with a pair of Grivel spring leash w/ screw lock, great setup!

Mountain Hardwear Masherbrum Mitten

February 12, 2011

For downhill yes, for cross country they are too warm (unless you aim for one of the Poles ;), more like backups or mitts you put on when having a break. (or belaying for the next hour) These mitts are for the coldest of conditions.

Arc'teryx Gothic Glove

Arc'teryx Gothic Glove

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2011

I wanted a pair of really thin inner gloves to use inside big winter mitts, and these ones are perfect. They are super thin and so far quite durable, the extra insulation they provide in combination with my MH washerbaums guarantee to keep your hands warm in the most harsh conditions. They are real nice for sports activities on chilly days as well. Bonus: I kinda feel like a cat burglar whenever I put em on :)

Mountain Hardwear Masherbrum Mitten

Mountain Hardwear Masherbrum Mitten

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2011

Great, warm mittens. They hold up very good in cold conditions. I like the fact that you can operate the tightness with the mittens on, lots of other solutions I have tested aint that easy to tighten with these kind of big mittens. Also the carabiner loop and the leather palms are great addition for those who like to use them for stuff involving climbing or rappelling. If you buy a pair of really thin inner gloves (like merino wool) you will never freeze on your hands, and you will still keep the warmth if you need to pull of one mitt to do stuff that require some finger finger actions.

Exped SynMat Sleeping Pad

Exped SynMat Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 October 26, 2010

I´ve had my share of sleeping pads, and this one pluss the Pacific Outdoor Cruiser Mountain Sleeping Pad are my two favourites. If I find room for it, I always go for the Exped since I sleep better due to the extra thickness. Takes some time to fully inflate it, but once you get the hang of it - it aint that bad. Been using it directly on rocky grounds a few times and although I was a little sceptic it held out thru the night without puncturing. I usualy drag around a ultrathin pad to keep under this one just to be on the safe side, but it seems to be durable even without. Besides it comes with a repair kit if you should manage to puncture it. Great pad, saving my back and makes me sleep better. If only my tentmates could top snoring also, it would be perfect :)

GU Chomps Energy Chews 16-Pack

Rating for this product: 3 April 13, 2010

At first I didnt really like them. Thought they where too sweet. I still find them a little too sweet, but at least I can easily eat 3 of them either during a mountain biking trip or afterwards. Hard to say if they give that much of an effect, but then again if you make yourself believe that it works, it probably does. Never underestimate the psychological effect it can have on you :) Bottomline: I seem to carry them around more and more often...

Rating for this product: 5 April 13, 2010

So far only tried the tri-berry since "everyone" said those where the best. I like the taste, and they kinda sprite up my regular water. I also notice that the time it takes to restitute from a work-out session is shorter when I drink at least 0,5 liter of Nuun mix afterwards. Good for that little extra boost or recovery.

Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles

Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles

Rating for this product: 2 April 13, 2010

I am done with traverse ski poles, could just be me but all the models Ive had have broken after just a few trips. These are no exception. They seemed sturdy and fine on my first trip, but pushing them a little made em brake. If anyone have recommendations for a sturdy traverse ski pole, let me know!
Oh, and in case anyone wonders, I used em uphill when they broke, was working my way up to a summit, and cant say I leaned to heavily on them either.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 18, 2010

The moment I put on this shirt I knew I had to get another one, it was so soft on the skin and comfy to wear that I tend to use them on a daily basis as well. (so I bought 2 more :-) I like the long sleeves with thumb holes but I also like the loooong zipper that makes it easier to let out some extra heat on warm days. I´d sure like to see carmen electra in this shirt with the zipper all the way down, no that would be hot...

Petzl Tactikka Plus Headlamp

Petzl Tactikka Plus Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 January 26, 2010

I bought this as a backup lamp in case my bigger 14 LED malfunctions in the middle of the night out in the middle of nowhere. But I often use it as my primary lamp since it has a red lens that wont mess up my night vision as much as a bright white LED will. Apart from that its a sturdy little, lightweight lamp that wont take up much room in your backpack or your pocket for that sake. More than enough light for walking round at night, but not powerful enough for running, mountain biking or other activities with a little more speed in it.

Mountain Hardwear Pinnacle Stretch Gaiter

January 26, 2010

I dont think the boots are photoshoped in, but probably just made a little more see-through in PS to make the gaiters stand more out. Normal procedure when you want to have most focus on the product our selling. Ive had similar gaiters from MH, and they where big enought to fit plastic boots, so these ones probably are too.

Its like having an extra battery, charging under the sun takes to long so you gotta keep it fully loaded when leaving home. It will charge you cell phone or similar product once. A small bonus is that it looks cool hanging on your backpack and people will come and ask you about it. With a little luck, girls might even too :)

Very satisfied with this pad, Ive used it on several hikes and also directly on the snow in wintertime. Works very good and prevents my body heat to vanish into the ground. Its also very lightweight and small but still have enough padding to keep ya comfortably through the night. Combine it with a reindeer skin on top on those freezing winter hikes and you will sleep like a baby :-)

I only use it for boiling water, and for that purpose its the best one Ive tried so far. I have several days out in the mountains every winter in just a tent and beeing one of the lightest and fastest boiling pots I always make sure its in my backpack when I go out. It probably works just fine for regular cooking also, like the other reviews mention. Great pot.

MSR WhisperLite Stove

MSR WhisperLite Stove

Rating for this product: 4 November 22, 2009

What I like most about my whipserlite is that its far more quiter than my MSR XGK. It still makes a lot of noise when using inside a tent to heat it up, but compared to the XGK its half the noise in my ears. Its also very lightweight and small and takes a good portion of beating too, still havnt managed to break mine even though I kinda have abused it severe sometimes. For those cold winter days where canister stoves just wont do, this is a excellent companion.

Platypus Shut Off Valve

Platypus Shut Off Valve

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2009

Finally a valve that wont leak. Ive tried several and after a little use most of them start to leak. This one takes a little longer to use since you have to turn it with your fingers but you wont have the annoying leaks running down your jacket. It is a little clumsy for biking use, but as soon as you a little familiar with it, you learn when to and when not to operate it under speedy bike descents :) For most other uses like skiing, hiking it works perfect for my needs. Bottomline, it wont leak!

The North Face Miwok Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Miwok Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2009

Ive had enough fleece jacket to make a sail for a medium size sailing boat. Not all of the where any good, but this one from North Face have been my favorite from the first time I put it on. I took the asphalt grey and the color is darn nice. The zipper is also well though of, and due to its construction its not annoying even if its all the way up. The arms are somewhat longer than normal and I think its great coz I cant stand jackets with too short arms that crumbles up an inch or two above your wrist.

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

This is a great Merino wool product. The fit is super nice and its warm on cold days (bummer :-). I was a little sceptic about the zip, since zips often can irritate more than please, but this zip has been really well designed. When ziped all up it dont feel bulky or strange. And like everyone else is saying, it really does a good job keeping the stank from sweat away for a looong time. Spensive, but worth it.

Big Agnes Elkhorn 3-Person Tent w/ Footprint

Big Agnes Elkhorn 3-Person Tent w/ Footprint

Rating for this product: 3 March 25, 2009

I got this tent coz of its light weight. Ive used it 4 times, mostly for shorter trips wintertime. Its not built for winter use in my opinion, but I got a great sleeping bag so I only need protection from the wind. Its not a 3 person tent! With 2 adults and some gear inside its a bit cramped. I wouldn't sleep 3 adults in it unless it was an emergency. The vestibule is not all that great either, kinda small. So basically what I like most about this tent is its lightweight.

La Sportiva Trango Alp GTX Boot - Men's

La Sportiva Trango Alp GTX Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 22, 2008

My feets are very picky when it comes to boots. Normally I have to break new boots in, unless I want blisters. I bought these boots for a "10 summits over 6500 feets in 10 hours" trip me and some friends had been planing for a few months since my old ones was asking for retirement. I kinda ordered them a little too late so I only tried them on for a short 2 mile trip up and down a hill where I live. So I was a bit anxious when we set out on our "epic" daytrip... My worries was soon forgotten as he boots proved themself worthy over and over. They where extremely good on the foot, they performed wonderful on rocky parts of the trip, they where brilliant when climbing or walking over the thinnest edges, they matched my step-in crampoons perfect when passing glaciers. Of course we all had legs like jelly when we finally came back to the cabin after 15 hours of walking and climbing but not near the fatigue Ive felt with other boots before. Besides all of my friends had longer recovery the following days than I had, and some of the credit I will give the boots. For these kind of trips they where absolutely perfect. I have already decided to buy another pair to have when these babies are worn out. Go get a pair before I buy them all... tyty LaSportiva.

Petzl Duobelt LED 14 Headlamp

Petzl Duobelt LED 14 Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 September 22, 2008

I finally replaced my old and sturdy headlamp with a flashy new LED/halogen headlamp, and so far I am very satisfied. 14 LEDs lit gives you enough light to bicycle in rough terrain in the middle of the night. If needed you can switch to halogen for that extra distance, but the 14 LEDs usually is more than enough. Around the camp, 5 LEDs is more than enough. I also like this model since it allows you to carry the batteries under your clothes so it holds out in cold weather too. It fits nice on my head, just wish it was a little more adjustable on the front piece. Yeah I know I can just turn my head, but sometimes it nice to be able to fix it at certain angles.

The North Face McMurdo Boot - Girls'

Rating for this product: 4 September 22, 2008

Hard to write a review when its a product Im not using (for obvious reasons) myself. Ive been asking my daughter if she likes them, and guess what: she says yes. Then Ive been asking if they are too cold, too hot, if they squeezes her toes, if they are too heavy, if they get wet. But apparently they are very good according to my 8 y.o. From my point of view they seems to be good winterboots for playing and moving around a little. I wouldnt take them for a longer trip or mountain hiking, since I expect the rubberlike stuff on the boot to be too sealed and not letting any moisture out. But they do keep the feets dry in non-dry locations and have a deasent grip so Ill give em 4 stars.

The North Face Apex Elixir Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 September 22, 2008

Its way too thin to use at anything else than activities that produces some or lots of body heat. (unless youre using it summerwise) But for that use its great. Bought it for my wife and she uses it as a fitness jacket when shes out walking, running or doing some kind of excersice. If your looking for a spring or autumn jacket, look somewhere else (dont even think about it for winter use). Ill give it 3 stars for beeing a good all round workout jacket but there are lots o cheaper jackets for that kinda use out there.

Rating for this product: 4 April 14, 2008

Ive used these stuff on several occasions. They are too warm if you are gonna work up some bodyheat, once I had to pull em out coz my boots felt like a sauna. But for those xtreme cold winterdays out in the mountains or days when u just go to a ski resort and go downhill all day they are perfect.
Make sure they dont crumble up when you put your feets inside your boots. and keep em a little outside the tip of your sock.

The North Face Foundation Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 7, 2007

Solid, breathing, wind-proof and warm. I was replacing my old Lowe bib pants with something new, and these pants have so far been working great. Works well in the mountains. My old Lowe pants was great for ice climbing, but for telemark-skiing they would get a little too hot for my taste, so i wanted something that breathes a little better.

I like the snug fit, but its also flexible enough when you wear more than one layer under it.

Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava

Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2007

I am very pleased with these balaclava. I have been using it under a Berghaus Gore-Tex jacket and if fits really well under the hood. I like the fact that the face opening is kinda large, makes it easier to pull the balaclava down under your chin when you want a better angle of view. It keeps me warm and does a good job of keeping the chilly winds outside.

I even used it when I had to take my sailboat for a 3.5hr trip to get it to the winterdock. And it was rough day with windspeeds up to 40 mph and lots o sea spray. I will never leave home without it when I am out for a rough ride, be it snow or sea.
