Fun board for park

Rome Postermania 1985 Snowboard

Rome Postermania 1985 Snowboard

Rating for this product: 4 December 28, 2010

I ride this in the park and when teaching the little ones. It's paired with Rome 390 bindings, it's a great board to play around on. It is a touch softer than what I am used to, and could use a bit more torsional stiffness, but then it's not meant to be a speed demon.

Good bindings, but quality is fading

Rome 390 Snowboard Binding

Rome 390 Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 December 28, 2010

This is my third pair of Rome bindings, second pair of 390's. I had 390's from a couple of years back, and also Targas from a couple of years back. The Targas are still bomber, the older 390's have been retired after ~120 days. They were still ridable, but for safety reasons, I decided sending them to the big mountain in the sky was a good idea.

On to the new ones. Out of the box, I had to trim one of the "nubs" on the foam pad because it was not properly installed into the base plate. The second problem was with one of the assembly's for high-back rotation. It was already stripped when I unscrewed it to rotate the high-back, so the screw wouldn't stay in place after re-assembly. This part was replaced by Rome in a couple of weeks.

They are still very very good bindings, but Rome needs to step up on their quality control before things get worse, and get on it to fix these issues that are starting to crop up.

I've got 20-25 days on them now, and they have performed flawlessly so far but I'll be keeping a close eye on what happens with the quality of going forward before buying another pair.

I've got them on a Rome Postermania right now, and this is a great combo in the park and when just playing around.

Fit Small

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 29, 2010

I really wanted to like these, but they fit really small. I wear a 32 and the M was tight in the butt and legs, and the waist was borderline. Medium in any other pants I own are loose on me, so this is definitely an anomaly. Can't tour in tight pants.Size up, waaay up.This review refers to the previous year (09/10) pants.

They are built really nice, and are light weight, if they fit, I think they would be great.

2 Seasons, over 75 days, and minimal issues

Rome 390 Snowboard Binding

Rome 390 Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2008

How many bindings can give you performance and confidence after 2 seasons?

These are moderately flexible, giving good performance in the park, paired with a quality freestyle board. Once dialed in, they are very responsive, and comfortable. I like the conformist toe strap, that fits most boots very well. I would definitely buy these again.

I have 1 minor complaint that really don't take away from the overall performance of the binding, and which I think Rome has fixed in the later models. The fabric that covers the ratchet strap when ratcheting in is more of an annoyance, I just slide the back foot strap outside the fabric, otherwise it kept getting caught in the fabric. Really, this is a very minor issue and should in no way stop you from buying these.

When deciding between these and the Targa bindings, consider where most of your riding takes place. if you are in the park, and ride a freestyle board, I would say these are better than the Targa for you. If you are freeriding chutes and charging down steep lines, the Targa may be better.

I ride both, and you can't go wrong with either one.

Rome is also one of the best rider oriented companies out there and they look after their customers.

SL Laces and Northwave Customer Service both FAIL

Northwave Snow Decade SL Snowboard Boot - Men's

Northwave Snow Decade SL Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 9, 2008

I just went from 32 Focus Boas and TM-Twos to the Northwave Decade SL. This boot is by far the most comfortable boot I ever put on, yet the comfort does not compromise response. The trick lacing system is awesome, you can tighten the upper and lower portions of the boots as you want them. The shell of the boots is actual leather, who does that nowadays?! The fit and finish and quality is far above the 32 and Salomon boots I have owned in the past. If you can get your hands on these, you must. The fit true to size. Best used for charging steep lines and trees where response and comfort throughout the day is of utmost importance. Get these, your feet will thank you!

UPDATE:

The SL Laces last about 35-40 days of riding, and that is about it. They will wear, fray or break either at where the SL assembly is, or where the barrels are. Unfortunately, Northwave doesn't seem at all interested in replacing the laces, and have asked me to go and find some on my own. This leads me to change my review to "Not recommended". All other aspects of the boot are great, but the customer service appears to be non-existent. If you are riding less than 10 days a year, these boots are probably OK. If you are a heavy user, you are better off looking at boots from a company that cares.
This is all while the boots are still under warranty.

UPDATE 2:

The SL lace broke today while getting ready for a day of riding.

Not bad, Not good

ThirtyTwo Focus Boa Snowboard Boot - Men's

ThirtyTwo Focus Boa Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 9, 2008

While the response of these boots was amazing, they just did not last. The heel separated after 40 days of riding, and the packed out completely to the point where my foot was flopping around inside the boot. The fit and finish is horrible, several stitches actually miss the fabric. I also had one of the lower zone boa knob assemblies break off the boot. It was still usable, but this is not what you expect from a boot of this price. I would not recommend. The Boa is nice for tightening and loosening, but I'd like to see the assemblies made of something other than cheap plastic. Until then, no more Boa for me.

Be Careful

ThirtyTwo TM-Two Snowboard Boot - Men's

ThirtyTwo TM-Two Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 9, 2008

Bought the previous years (07) TM-Twos and realized they fit much differently than 32 boots of the 06. I only wore them twice, and in that time, I tore the hook on the back of the boots used to pull the boot on, on both boots. They became excruciatingly painful to ride after the liner molded to my feet and my foot would lip forward and my toes would bang into the front of the boot. The shell was also 1/2 cm shorter then the previous year for the same size boot. Lastly, the seams started fraying on them after 2 days of riding. I sold them on Ebay for cheap.

On the positive side, response and control is amazing. The traditional lacing can't be beat, and the heel retention system is very good.

I just don't think 32 is a quality product that will last very long. I certainly would never buy a 32 product again. I have owned 5 pairs of 32 boots, and have had problems with the last 3 pairs.

Amongst the best

Rome Targa Snowboard Binding

Rome Targa Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

These are a very good binding. I have had them for 2 years, and not had a problem with them. They are of a very high quality, and Rome customer service is amongst the best in the industry. Best use is in charging steeps and trees where response and control is critical. Buy these, you will not regret it.

Great Board - Can't go wrong!

Gnu Riders Choice Snowboard

Gnu Riders Choice Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 April 30, 2007

Definitely an amazing board. Riding the 157.5 MagneTraction, and Mervin does it again!
Stable at high speed for a FS board, solid on landings and nice flex and pop. This board gives you some serious control on iced over moguls and groomed ice.
MagneTraction does control a different than a regular sidecut board, not bad, but different. Once you get used to it it is amazing!
