TIME ATAC Alium Pedal

TIME ATAC Alium Pedal

Rating for this product: 3 October 4, 2011

This model is quite a lot more difficult to clip in and out of than more expensive ATAC pedals that have variable tension. Not good for cyclocross or anytime you need to clip and unclip frequently.

Hutchinson Piranha CX Tubeless Ready Tire

Hutchinson Piranha CX Tubeless Ready Tire

Rating for this product: 4 September 4, 2011

I don't love the gray color, but for $16 I can live with it. I'm not sure why there are so many complaints about mounting. I've been using road tubeless for several seasons. Mounting these on converted Shimano RS10 wheels was one of the easiest tubeless installs I've done. No bead jack required. They seated right up with the compressor. (I wouldn't try installing any tubeless tire without a compressor.) Strangely for a tubeless tire, they leaked tiny amounts of sealant through the sidewall. In the past, I've only seen that when converting non-tubeless MTB tires to tubeless. I'm running them at 30psi. The ride is great! So overall, the quality may be a little off, but not so bad that I didn't by a few more while they're still on sale.

Single not pair

Paul Components Neo-Retro Cantilevers

Paul Components Neo-Retro Cantilevers

Rating for this product: 3 September 3, 2011

Although the plural product title would seem to indicate that this is a pair rather than a single brake, that is not the case. Don't be confused by the fact that all other single brakes sold by Real Cyclist use a singular product title. Can't rate accurately since I returned the product. $140 out of my price range for cantis.

Ok for what they are

Mavic Calibro Cycling Short - Women's

Mavic Calibro Cycling Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 23, 2010

These are the lower end of Mavic's line and are fine for short rides. The Mavic Tempo and Ventoux are my favorite shorts for long-distance cycling. Calibro have a much different, more tech-looking chamois. It's inferior to the chamois in the Tempo and Ventoux.

I thought I liked these

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Short - Women's

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 July 13, 2010

They're ok for shorter rides, 40-50 miles, but longer than that and they start to give me horrendous chafing (rope burn like) on the crease between the top of my thigh and my butt cheek. For quite a while I wasn't sure what was causing the problem, but through a process of elimination have found the PI shorts to be the problem.

Nice shorts!

Mavic Tempo Cycling Short - Women's

Mavic Tempo Cycling Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 8, 2010

Compared to the PI Pro shorts I've been wearing these run slightly smaller, but I wear a medium in both. Padding seems a little thicker/denser. Fabric is nice, but seems more delicate than PI. I like them a lot. I've only worn these for a couple rides. I think I have 5-6 hours in them. I'm a little worried about the rubber "Mavic" tag catching on something and damaging the fabric.

Great Poles!

Alpina Diamond Storm 920 Racing Ski Poles

Alpina Diamond Storm 920 Racing Ski Poles

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2008

I have never used poles that are 2-4 times as much as these. I cannot imagine that the are that much better. These are great; very light with a nice strap.

Rossignol X9 Skate Boot

Rossignol X9 Skate Boot

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2008

This is my first pair of skate ski boot so I don't know how they compare to others. I have wide feet, and they fit great! They are very comfortable and seem stiff enough. I've had a lot of fun skating in these.

CW-X Pro Shorts - Women's

CW-X Pro Shorts - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2006

I wore mine for the first time during a 50 mile race and they were very comfortable and supportive. The sizing charts on backcountry.com were inconsistent with the CW-X packaging and I had to exchange for one size smaller.

Ultimate Direction Diablo Hydration Pack - 200 cu. in.

Ultimate Direction Diablo Hydration Pack - 200 cu. in.

Rating for this product: 4 July 3, 2006

This is one of my favorite packs to run with, but it is not perfect. There is an issue with the way the shoulder straps attach under the water bottle. They don't stay under the water bottle. I am fairly sure the pack would fit a man better than a woman.

Almost perfect

La Sportiva Slingshot Running Shoe - Men's

La Sportiva Slingshot Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 19, 2006

Because reviews said these run narrow I ordered the men's version rather than women's. They fit great.
Pros: Flexible, lightweight, low to ground, neutral
Cons: Construction - They seem well-made but pieces were falling off when I started my second run. Zero cushion - Seems like this would be easy to fix by swapping out some of the dense rubber/foam for cushiony foam. Would also make the shoe lighter and more flexible.
Could be improved: Lacing - Replacing regular laces with system similar to Salomon or Yankz.

The North Face Ultra 103 XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 20, 2006

These look great, but I don't know how anyone runs in them. They reminded me of a pair of leather Raichle hiking boots I had in the early 80's.

I love these shoes.

Salomon GCS XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Salomon GCS XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 20, 2006

These may be a little cushy, but for a waterproof trail running shoe they have a fair amount of forefoot flex. Not as much as I would like, but the best I've tried. Went through two pair of XA Pro GTX before these. The GCS is less stiff, and fit is a hair smaller.
