Nice update from previous version

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Softshell Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2012

I had the previous version of this jacket, so I knew that it was a lightweight softshell with little insulation when I ordered it. This is a very nice update from the previous version. I like the fabric better. This jacket is just what I wanted. I wasn't too sure when I ordered the Bondi Blue, so I ordered a black one just in case, but I kept the blue as it's a great color. This is not going to be my primary jacket, but I like to have a variety of jackets--one for every purpose and weather condition (ultra lightweight, lightweight, Gore-Tex, Windstopper, softshell, warm synthetic insulation, down, etc.). This one should see use year round, although only in winter with layers for active pursuits.

NEMO Equipment Inc. Losi 3P Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2011

I have three different tents that I use for different types of camping--This one is used for motorcycle camping. If I could only keep one of my tents, this would be the one. It's versatile, and it's easy to setup, especially with "Jake's Feet". At first I was skeptical on how durable the feet would be, but I've had no issues at all. The tent was solid in a windstorm in Utah. The 3P version is great for two people, if you want a little extra room without sacrificing weight. Highly recommended.

I/O Bio Merino Contact Loose Tight - Women's - DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 August 26, 2010

The merino is soft, and they fit me well. They have a mid rise, and are a nice relaxed fit as advertised. The only thing I was shocked to find was that they're not full lengh--they're capris. I guess I should have figured it out by the picture, but I didn't notice anything in the description about them being capri lengh. If that's what you need, then these would be great.

Great layering piece...

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Women's

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 26, 2010

I'm updating my original review. The first R2 I ordered fit very poorly. I sent it back, but then later got to thinking that maybe I just got a defective one, so I ordered another one. The fit was better, and I kept it. This jacket fits smaller than other Patagonia fleeces. It's a slim fit as advertised. The sleeves are just barely long enough for me, and the length is not quite as long as I'd like, but I ordered it for function, not style. As it is, it will make a nice, trim, packable layering piece. I plan to wear it under a puffy jacket and a Gore-Tex shell when traveling on my motorcycle, and I will also use it as an insulating layer when backpacking and camping. It's fairly light, yet warm, and since it's a trim cut, it's quite packable. If you're looking for a functional layering piece, this is a great choice. If you're looking for a nice looking fleece jacket for casual wear, I'd choose the Patagonia Re-Tool Jacket or the Arcteryx Covert Cardigan, as both are better looking than the R2.

Patagonia Traverse Pant - Women's

Patagonia Traverse Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 August 26, 2010

Based on the description, I thought they'd be really lightweight. Not so. I found them to be quite heavy. They did not fit me at all. I wear a size small in almost everything, but these were absolutely huge in a size small. For reference, I am 5'4" and 105 lbs. The waist and hips were about 2" too big. I probably could have exchanged for an XS, but I really didn't care for the fabric anyway.

Icebreaker GT150 Dash 1/4-Zip Top - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 August 26, 2010

This is a nice looking top for working out, but it didn't fit my shape. It's a fitted, hourglass cut, that doesn't work well if you're smaller chested. I've found Icebreaker merino to be the only merino I've found that actually feels kind of scratchy against my skin. The Stoic merino items are much softer.

Rating for this product: 4 August 4, 2010

This jacket is well made, windproof as advertised, and fits true to size with room for layers underneath. It's not a slim fit, but flattering. I ended up returning it though, because of the cuffs. They are so big that they allow the sleeves to fall down over my hands. If Patagonia fixes the cuffs on next season's version, I will buy again.

Arc'teryx Visio Comp Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2010

I wanted to give this jacket a try. BC was out of my normal size (small), so I thought I'd give a medium a try. Unfortunately the medium was too big, but I did really like the jacet. I think it would be great for cycling and running. It's just an ultralight shell, but being made out of Gore Windstopper should make it a better windbreaker than most. I like it enough that I am going to try to find a small elsewhere. Kind of pricey, but then isn't everything Arcteryx?

Arc'teryx Epsilon AR Softshell Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Epsilon AR Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2010

This is a lightweight jacket that would work great in spring or fall. It's kind of a stretch woven single-layer fabric, that has kind of a very thin, grid-type microfleece on the inside. I found the fit to be a little more generous than some Arcteryx jackets, with room for a couple of light layers underneath, but still very flattering and nicely shaped. It has a short collar, which looks nice, but offers less draft protection than some of their other jackets.

Arc'teryx Solano Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 4, 2010

I was excited about this jacket when I received it. It's a nice Gore Windstopper jacket, with a light lining inside--just what I wanted. The jacket fit great, except for the sleeves. They were too short. Kind of weird, because I have several other Arcteryx jackets, and the sleeve length is correct. Not sure if I just got a defective one or not. I considered going up a size, but then I'm quite sure the rest of the jacket would be too big. I may look at the Viseo instead, although it is not lined and is lighter weight.

Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan - Women's

Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2010

If you don't like traditional fleece jackets, give this a try. It is much better looking--fleecy inside, more like a sweater on the outside. I have many Arcteryx jackets--Alpha SL, Alpha LT, Beta SL, Atom--all size small. I had read that the Covert Cardigan is a slim fit, so I ordered a medium. I'm very happy with the fit. It fits more like a jacket than a sweater. I'm sure I could wear the small, but I prefer a looser fit, with room for a couple of light layers underneath. If you like a slim fit, go with your regular size. For a more relaxed fit, size up.

Arc'teryx Hyllus Hooded Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2010

This jacket is nice! After reading reivews on several different sites regarding the slim fit, I decided to order a medium. I have an Arcteryx Alpha SL, Alpha LT, Beta SL, and Atom LT--all size small. I'm 5'4" and 105lbs. Turns out the medium is just right. It's only slightly large around the hem, but can be adjusted with the elastic bungie. I'm sure I could wear a small, but I wanted this to fit like a jacket, not a sweater. I don't like form-fitting clothes. If you do, then go with your regular size. I bought one of these for my husband to replace his ProLite, since he was complaining about not being comfortable. He used it on a motorcycle trip and raved about it, which convinced me to buy one. I didn't think it would be that much of a difference, but I thought it would be nice to save space and reduce weight. Well it turned out to be way more comfortable than my old Prolite. I had read mixed reviews before purchasing, but our experienece has only been positive. Highly recommended.

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2010

This jacket has gone with me many places, because it compresses so small. I recently took it on a motorcycle trip, where obviously space was limited. It ended up being a great insulation piece on the trip, and when I wamred up, I could just clip it on my tail bag with a caribiner. I will also use this for backpacking, car camping, and taking with me almost anywhere just in case it gets chilly. Sizing it true, although I did have to try a couple to get the perfect fit.

The Alpha SL is superlight. The PacLite fabric is nice, although the LT has an even better feel (Pro-Shell). I definitely recommend the Alpha SL, expecially if you're on a budget. Awesome jacket, but unisex it's not!

Arc'teryx Fission SL Insulated Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Fission SL Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 26, 2010

Arcteryx advertises this as a unisex jacket. I searched high and low for a review written by a woman, but couldn't find one. I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I'm 5'4", 105 lbs., and have a typical female shape. I couldn't find an XS in black, so I ordered a size small, thinking if it didn't work out I'd get an XS in Aztec. The jacket was exceptional, and just what I was looking for, but it did not fit. I found that it did fit through the hip area, but that was it. The shoulders were very broad, the chest area too big, and the sleeves too long. I found nothing unisex about the fit. It seemed to be cut just like you'd expect a men's jacket to be cut. I didn't bother looking for the XS in Aztec, because since the small fit in the hips, the XS would undoubtedly be too small in the hips, but probably fit everywhere else. So if you're a woman, I don't recommend this jacket unless you have broad shoulders, narrow hips, and long arms.

Rating for this product: 5 May 27, 2010

I've tried nearly every boy short made and was about to decide boy shorts just weren't for me, and then I found these. The fit is excellent. The rise is just what I wanted--not super low, but not too high either. The length is perfect--just long enough to cover and they don't ride up. I use this sleeping pad for backpacking and motorcycle camping. I also recently started using it inside my travel trailer. It makes the RV bed a little more comfortable. The 1.5" thickness seems to be just right. I've tried a 1", and it was just too thin. Anything thicker would be too heavy and take up too much space. I'm 5'4", and the length is just right for me. It does a good job insulating me from the cold ground and provides enough cushion and support for me to sleep on my side. It's been comfortable and dependable during the two years I've been using it.

These socks have become my everyday socks that I wear to work. I have five different color variations (all striped), so I have a pair that matches nearly everything. They are comfortable, durable, and well made. They seem expensive at first, but will outlast two or three pair of cheaper socks. They're lightweight, but not paper thin either. They're cool in the summer and wick well, yet are warm in the winter. I definitely recommend them.

Nice jacket, but prefer Houdini

Arc'teryx Celeris Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Celeris Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 27, 2009

I have a couple of Patagonia Houdini jackets. I was looking for a similar jacket without a hood and came across this one. I gave it a try, but decided to stick with the Houdini. The fabric just wansn't as nice and the length not as long. The one thing I did like better about the Arcteryx Celeris was the velcro tabs on the wrists. It's definitely worth a try, but I'd recommend checking out the Houdini as well.

A Staple in my Active Wardrobe

Patagonia Capilene 2 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 2 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2009

I've had two of these for a couple of years now, and I wear them constantly. In the summer they're great for cool evenings, and they're light enough to carry in your daypack just in case. In winter, they're great for layering. I wear them running, backpacking, and even around town. They look good, even after a couple years of use. These will be on my Christmas wish list this year. They are just so versatile. The fit is right on--fitted. Not loose, but not skin tight.

Great for running!

Patagonia Capilene 1 Graphic Performance T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 1 Graphic Performance T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2009

I did a 5K race where they gave these out as the souvenier shirt. Since then I've bought a couple more. They work great for running--lightweight, comfortable, no irritating seams, and keeps you dry. They're especially good in hot weather. Now that it's cooler, I use them as a baselayer under a Patagonia Capilene 2 or 3 zip-neck or heavier fleece. I like a looser fit, so I order up one size. If you like them more form fitting, order your regular size.

Excellent design...A must have jacket!

Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2009

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I ordered this, but I thought I'd give it a try. Well what I discovered is that this is an absolute must have piece. It's super lightweight, soft and comfortable, and can function as a stand alone jacket or a midlayer. The main body is a nylon wind-type shell that is lightly insulated, but it has stretch panels on the sides that are breathable. The cuffs are a soft lycra-type material and are very comfortable and work to seal out the wind. The jacket is so cozy, I don't want to take it off. I'll wear it alone most of the time, since winters here are mild, but when I head to colder climates I'll layer this under a hard shell.

Nice jacket, but poor fit for me...

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 27, 2009

This is a really well made jacket--typical of Patagonia quality. I really wanted it to work, but the sizing was just off for me. I ordered a small, which is my normal size, but this jacket swallowed me. I am 5'4" and 105 lbs. Even with layers underneath it was big. When zipped up, it covered my face all the way to my nose. I sent it back and decided to try the XS. Well unfortunately it was a bit small. If the sizing works for you, it would be a nice jacket. If not, I would recommend the Arcteryx Beta SL and the Mountain Hardwear Epic.

Holds much more than you'd think!

Osprey Packs Talon 5.5 Backpack - 240-330cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 5, 2009

I bought this pack to take with me on a trip to Moab, UT. I used it for mountain biking and hiking. This bag turned out to be perfect--exactly what I've been searching for. This pack holds much more than what some of the reviews led me to believe. I carried the following items inside the bag while mountain bikine: (2) .5L water bottles, Patagonia Houdini jacket, North Face baselayer bottoms, Spot personal locator, a sandwich, apple, energy bar, camera, first aid kit, wallet, keys, cell phone, and lip balm. I could have easily fit a couple more small items if needed. The pack was the most comfortable pack I've ever worn.

An absolute essential!

Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Softshell Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 15, 2009

This jacket is an essential part of my wardrobe. I bought one about 5 years ago thinking I might use it occasionally. I was sure wrong. I wear it all the time. I take this jacket with me everywhere, and I wear it more than any other jacket in my wardrobe. It stuffs so small that there is no reason not to take it. I use it for running, cycling, hiking, camping, and any time it gets a bit chilly or windy. My older one is probably from 2004 or so and is an XS. I just ordered a new one from Backcountry in another color, and in the new 2009 model I wear a small, so it seems they changed their sizing in the past few years. My normal size is a small, so go with the size you normally wear. I highly recommend this jacket. It's worth every penny!

Baggies last forever!

Patagonia Baggies Board Short - Women's

Patagonia Baggies Board Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 15, 2009

I had two pair of these shorts for 15 years. The shorts never wore out, although the elastic in the waist finally did. I still wore them using the drawstring though. I finally decided to get some new ones, and the new style/cut is much improved over the old ones from the 90's. These are great for running, hiking, kayaking and other water sports, or just hanging out. Highly recommended.

Best Boy Shorts I've Found!

SmartWool Microweight Boy Brief - Women's

SmartWool Microweight Boy Brief - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 January 29, 2009

Let me start by saying I have tried almost every boy short imaginable and had just about determined that boy shorts weren't for me, but then I found these. They fit well, do not ride up, the fabric feels great, and they wash up nicely. They have a slightly longer inseam that most boy shorts (although not as long as it appears in the picture), and I think this helps them stay in place. They are nearly perfect. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I think I'd like them even better if the rear seam was done slightly differently. Don't plan on wearing these to eliminate panty lines under tighter fitting pants and shorts though. You won't have a panty line, but you will have a shorts line at the legs.

Under Armour Active Boy Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 September 30, 2008

I ordered these in a size small, which is my normal size, but they just didn't work. For some reason they sat a couple of inches lower in the back than the front on me. The fabric is nice, however, and they might be worth a try. Guess they just didn't fit my shape.

KEEN Boulder Canyon Quarter Ultralite Socks - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 23, 2008

I bought these despite the negative review, and I am very happy with them. They are more comfortable and softer than some comparable Smartwool socks that I have, and the Keen socks are just the right weight for a thin, lightweight sock. I will definitely be ordering more. I only wish that they came in white or off-white too.

SmartWool Cable Sock - Women's

SmartWool Cable Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 October 1, 2007

I love Smartwool socks and have been wearing their hiking socks for years. I also like the Saturn stripe stocks. Since I like Smartwool so much, I thought I'd give these Cable socks a try for the office. Well I was very disappointed. They actually feel rough, fit poorly, and are slightly scratchy. I will probably go ahead and wear them, since I would feel stupid returning socks I've worn, but I definitely won't buy any more of them.

Super cute jacket!

The North Face First Ascent Full Zip Jacket - Women's

The North Face First Ascent Full Zip Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 20, 2007

I saw this jacket at a local store, but they didn't have the color I wanted (brown/pink) so I checked out here, and of course they had it. I actually haven't worn it yet, because I live where it's still hot, but come fall, I'm sure it will become one of my favorites. In my opinion, the only thing that could improve this jacket is to make the neck a little less "tall". Also, I wish it came in the brown/orange combination like the men's version. Whey do they always think women want pink?!!

Isis Brief - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 June 7, 2007

I am 5'5" and 105 lbs. I ordered these in a size small. I didn't even have to try them on to tell that they would be too small. They were tiny! I sent them back and exchanged them for a size medium. The medium doesn't fit too well. The leg openings are too tight, and the waist is too big. You might have better luck if you're shaped differently than me. The fabric is kind of heavy, even the mesh part. If your looking at these, I would consider Patagonia first. I've had better luck with Patagonia and their fabric is nicer.

Nalgene Lexan Wide Mouth Water Bottle - 32oz Do Not use

Nalgene Lexan Wide Mouth Water Bottle - 32oz Do Not use

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2007

I've used these for years and will continue to use them. They are great for backpacking and just about any activity where you need to take water along. They don't make your water taste funny like some bottles, and they are very durable. Just how durable? Well my husband and I were riding our enduro motorcycles, and he had two of these bottles in a fanny pack. He went down on his bike and slid on his side down the gravel road. One of the bottles scraped along the road during the accident. The bottle had some nasty scrapes on it, but the only thing that broke was the little strap that connects the lid to the bottle. The bottle survived the crash and is still usable. As for my husband, he was able to get up and ride away with only a few bruises, some torn clothes, and a scraped up helmet.

Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 15, 2007

I've had this jacket for a year, and I can't believe how much I have used it. It is so lightweight and packs up so tiny that I take it with me almost everywhere. I carry it with me when running if there's a chance of rain. I take it on hikes in case it gets windy, chilly, or I just need an extra layer. It blocks moderate wind, light rain, and adds a little warmth when needed. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it's kind of expensive for such a lightweight jacket.

Skip this bra unless you are an AA or smaller!

Patagonia Active Tiny Bra - Women's

Patagonia Active Tiny Bra - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 May 15, 2007

I normally wear an A cup, so bras like this usually work fine for me. Since I love almost everything Patagonia makes, I decided to try this bra. I ordered the size small. The band fit fine, but the cup size was indeed "tiny". I looked like a C cup trying to fit in an A cup bra. This might be a good pre-teen bra, and it might work for AA cup and smaller, but if you don't fit either of those categories, I recommend you skip this one.

MSR Lightning Ascent - Women's

MSR Lightning Ascent - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2007

I had never snowshoed before, and I got the idea to start snowshoeing last winter. My husband was reluctant. I decided that if I was going to talk him into snowshoeing, that I'd better get us high-quality, lightweight snowshoes to make it as fun and easy as possible. My husband said he would try snowshoeing once, and that if he didn't like it, I could sell his snowshoes. Well guess what, these snowshoes paid off! He loved it! We had so much fun, and the heel lifters made it so easy to walk up the steepest hills. Now we're hooked on snowshoeing and can't wait until next winter. If you're considering these snowshoes, go for it. You will not regret it.

NRS Bandit Inflatable Kayaks

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2007

I have had this kayak for a year and can't say enough about it. I am not an expert paddler by any means, but this boat is great. It handles super, the seat is comfortable, and it is stable in the mild whitewater that I paddle. It is very well made, and the fabric and other materials are very durable. It is lighter than many inflatables, which is a real plus for lighter paddlers like myself. I considered several different brands, but I'm glad I went with the NRS Bandit!

When I first saw these in the stores, I thought they were really ugly! Then I went to Hawaii and saw people wearing them everywhere--on the sidewalk, on the muddy hiking trails, in the water. I started to like how they look. When I got home, I decided I had to give them a try. Now I really like them--the way they look and feel and the fact that they are so versatile. One tip I can provide is that I found that the lighter colored ones tend to make your feet look wider/bigger. If your worried about your feet looking big, go with a darker color.
