Burton Mission Snowboard Binding

Burton Mission Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 April 30, 2012

I picked these up because they don't have Autocant and they are a pretty straight forward piece of equipment. They have comfortable straps and enough flex to go all over the mountain, which is exactly what I was looking for. They don't have as much cushion in the heel area, but that's just me being picky. I do like the fact that there is padding over the screws on this year's design. As they say, it really is a working man's binding at a workin man's price. You can't go wrong with these.

Arc'teryx Atom SV Insulated Hoody - Men's

Arc'teryx Atom SV Insulated Hoody - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 13, 2012

I've used this under my Alpha SV as a layering piece and I've ridden with it alone on a 30 degree day here in Vail and it worked perfectly well in both situations. The pockets are clutch because the insulation is outside of the hands so they actually keep your hands warm (whereas other Arc'teryx shells have insulation on the inside and they dont keep your hands warm). The sharp blue color is awesome and looks good by itself. I was surprised to find the hood has micro adjustments which is another added bonus.

Oakley Holbrook Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2012

I picked up a pair of the Black/Emerald combo for a really good deal ($60) and I've been really impressed with them so far. The frames are super light and very comfortable so you barely notice they are even on your face. The lens quality is what you would expect from an Oakley product as well. These are my new go to sunglasses for the sunny days up here in the Colorado high country.

Great Bucket for Your Melon

Giro Seam Helmet

Giro Seam Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 January 23, 2012

The Seam is an awesome helmet! I've never ridden/skied a run in my entire life without a helmet and this one is the best I've ever used. Its light, stylish, and very warm. The best part about this helmet is the venting system. Other helmets (ex: Smith) have tiny vent levers that are a pain to out whereas the Seam has a large lever across the top that makes it very easy to open with gloves or mittens on. The chin strap is easy to adjust and comfortable as well. The size adjustment in the helmet is also an awesome feature that allows for a better, snug fit. Just some advice- don't try to rock Oakley A-Frames with this helmet because it will leave gaps on your forehead.

Get this helmet. You won't regret it.

Burton Cartel Re:Flex Snowboard Binding

Burton Cartel Re:Flex Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 2 January 22, 2012

So these were enjoyable at first but the more I put them thru the paces, the more I disliked them. The highbacks and straps are nice, but I just didn't like the Autocant system in the footbeds. The cushioning was excellent, but the way the Autocant works was just too awkward for me and it completely changed the way I rode. My knees were wayyyyy to bowed in, so i had to widen my stance just to feel normal and that made everything else different. I sold these and pick up some Missions that don't have Autocant.

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2011

I've been an Oakley guy for years but I picked up a pair of I/Os this summer and have used them every day of the season so far. The lenses are awesome (I have the Red Sol-X, Ignitor Mirror, and Sensor Mirror) and are extremely easy to change, which makes it really convenient for changing weather conditions. The bigger frame and lack of full frame makes the peripheral vision on these goggles excellent. Its also nice that the lenses aren't insanely expensive to replace, as compared to Oakley replacement lenses that cost an arm and a leg.

Salomon Snowboards F20 Snowboard Boot - Men's

Salomon Snowboards F20 Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2011

I really have enjoyed these boots so far. I am living/working in Vail this winter and decided it was time for new boots. I previously had the Salomon F22, but wanted something a bit softer so I opted for the F20. 15 days in this season and this boot has performed up to the task. They are a bit softer than the F22, but still responsive enough that I can take them anywhere. They aren't the warmest boots of all time, but they are mighty comfortable which makes them easy to put on nearly every day. Grab yourself a pair if you are an all mountain rider looking for one boot to do it all.

Arc'teryx Delta AR Zip-Neck Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 2, 2011

This is one of my favorite pieces of outerwear that I own. It has very soft fabric and it feels good on the skin. Its a great layering piece, but is also awesome to wear on cool spring and fall nights. Its is also stylish enough to wear out to the bars. I only give this 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a thermal fleece so it doesnt block any wind and i did wash it once and found a hole after around the neck. otherwise it is a great piece.

I picked one of these up for my brother's girlfriend and she absolutely loves it. She says its is super warm, very comfortable, highly useful, and stylish. She really likes the fleece liner and pit zips, along with the stretch of the fabric. I've been around when she's wearing it and have heard an array of compliments about the jacket so it makes me happy that I got her something other people are envious of and something that she can use all the time.

Stoic Vaporshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 12, 2011

This is my first piece of Stoic gear so I didn't really know what to expect. I got this last week and have run it through a few different situations. Overall, I'm impressed with how its handled everything. Lightweight, breathable as everyone else mentions and I do like the hood. On the downside, I think the wrist enclosures are pretty poorly designed and I wish it had more pockets. I would recommend it if you are looking for a jacket to put through the paces.

July 6, 2009

I would suggest going for a jacket with Gore-Tex. The Venture is a decent jacket for a little bit of rain, but its not very good for downpours and its pretty darn thin to be a winter/snow jacket. i would suggest getting something a bit heavier that will be a bit warmer for the winter. I would suggest to get the Mountain Hardwear Xenon shell. its still pretty light weight at 19oz, and it will give you the desired weather protection.

Since this material is highly water resistant, not waterproof, the DWR on the cuffs will wear off quickly in this area because of wear and tear. To fix this, i would suggest that you get some Nixwax Spray-On DWR and apply it to the cuff areas of this jacket. By doing this, you will have some extra protection and hopefully it will stop the water from penetrating the jacket.

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

March 3, 2009

These two softshells are going to be similar. They are both general-use jackets, either for layer in colder weather or just wearing it alone in mild temperatures. They both are water resistant with a DWR coating and they are both stretchy materials. Either one is a good softshell to go with.

Arc'teryx Alpha SL Pullover Jacket - Men's

February 28, 2009

well i guess its just preference, especially when it comes to the pockets and the pullover or complete zipper. the technology is obviously the same and they are very similar in weight, just 2oz difference. you just have to figure out if you want a pullover or a complete zip with 2 hand/storage pockets.

Marmot Torre Jacket - Men's

February 28, 2009

The Torre is more of a skier friendly jacket. it has a removable powder skirt, while the Exum doesnt have a powder skirt. Otherwise they are very similar. they both have helmet compatible hoods and Gore-Tex Pro Shell. i believe that the Exum is lighter in weight than the Torre.

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Men's

February 27, 2009

They are going to be a very similar product. Nearly the exact same weight, but the Rain Shadow has a roll-down hood while the Venture's is fixed. The Venture is very packable, but so is the Rain Shadow. I personally would get the Rain Shadow. It has a waterproof laminate, while the Venture has a waterproof coating.

Arc'teryx Alpha SL Jacket - Men's

February 27, 2009

It depends what youre using it for. The Alpha SL is 2oz lighter, but as far as ive heard, eVent is more breathable than Gore-Tex. I am a huge arcteryx fan, and my older bro had this jacket and loved it so i would recommend it to you.

Outdoor Research Foray Jacket - Men's

February 27, 2009

Yes it is. The Foray has Gore-Tex Paclite, which is a whole lot better HyVent DT that the Venture jacket has. They are very similar in weight too, so go with the Foray.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

February 26, 2009

The newer model with the Pro Shell has Micro Grid Backer, which supposedly increases the breathability and internal abrasion resistance. I have the last version made with XCR and i think its an amazing jacket. I used it for everything: snowboarding, skiing, hiking, biking, campus use, etc. And for some reason the description above says "Arc'teryx added Underarm zips for ventilation in mellow conditions, so you don't overheat while breaking trail in two feet of new snow", but my older model has Pit Zips that are huge, so i dont know why thats there. Personally, i would save the money and go with the older version, but if you want increase breathability go with the new version.

The North Face Resolve Jacket - Men's

February 26, 2009

I would say get this one because it runs a bit bigger/looser than the Venture, so it will be easier to lay underneath.
