Strange fit nice jacket

Patagonia Nano Puff Insulated Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Nano Puff Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 1, 2012

I am normally a large in most all jackets but I was swallowed by this jacket and barely made an escape. I am 6'1" and 170, the length on the sleeves was great as I am a 35" arm in dress shirts. I am going to order a medium and see how it fits in the body and will try to remember to report back. But buyer beware they gave this coat a Wal-Mart cut(read America).

These tights are great. They offer superior support of the knees as well as the hamstrings. They are sufficiently thick and provide great warmth. The 3/4 length is perfect for skiing as they don't bunch up in your boots.

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2012

I have had these on multiple pairs of skis and have thoroughly enjoyed them on all of them. I use this binding inbounds and for touring. I have had the smallest issue with the cartridges spinning but once I applied a touch of thread lock on them I haven't had any issues since. I have these paired up with Scarpa T-Races which is a seriously powerful setup.

Don't listen to the folks who spray hate on these. They are worth a try and if you don't like them you don't like them. I tried the 22 Designs and wasn't super stoked on them. So to each their own.

Swiss Army Bindings

Marker Baron Ski Binding

Marker Baron Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 January 29, 2012

These bindings are great. I ski mostly in bounds on these as I have a dedicated touring rig with Dyna-Fits for the fast and light ascents. These work great for everything. Inbounds skiing, side country as well as backcountry. The only reason I give them four stars was due to some minor issues with the AFDs on these. I have the original Barons and the problem has been fixed since.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

I have this jacket and let me tell you it is awesome. I have worn it from mountaineering to skiing to impromptu on slope dental extractions. This jacket is as tough as they come and and as dry as they come. The seams really are teeny tiny and the joints articulate better than Montel Williams on the Who's the daddy episodes.

The construction on this is impeccable and after one whole season of hammering it and traveling around the world of the US it has withstood everything without so much as a thread out of place, with one exception. That is the aforementioned dental extraction. I had a ski come down slope and hit me in the face. It was a powder day so I had the collar all the way up and the ski managed to knock out some teeth and in the process it put the smallest little cut in the collar where the remaining stumps of my teeth punctured through.

I foresee this jacket lasting at least 5 years maybe more.

If you are looking for a bomber do it all jacket this is your go to!!

Kona Band Wagon Bike

June 24, 2011

While this bike would be a nice tool to train on I think you would be better served with a single speed cyclo-cross bike. If you plan on racing you will need a bike with the clearance for knobby cross tires as well as cantilever brakes. Neither of which this particular bike has. If you are planning on having a race specific bike I think it would still be nice to have a cross ready single speed to train on. That way you could use it as your B bike to keep in the pits for change ups. It would also give you the option on racing in the single speed division which I find super fun!
This would be a great option for that do it all bike: http://www.departmentofgoods.com/kona-major-one-cyclocross-bike

Hi Mtullar22444,

You certainly can adjust the air pressure in this fork. On the right hand side of the top of the fork is a cap that says air on it. Under this cap is a Schraeder valve for adjusting the air pressure. You will need a shock pump with a gauge on it so that you can get the pressure correct. They look like this: http://www.departmentofgoods.com/cutter-transition-shock-pump

Dissent Tire

WTB Dissent Mountain Tire

WTB Dissent Mountain Tire

Rating for this product: 2 September 8, 2010

This tire was great for the first ride. Great traction, it is fairly light weight for what it is, it is 980grams instead of the 1300 or so listed. It wasn't until I was on the pavement riding back to the house after the ride that I noticed the tire had a crazy hop to it. Little did I know it had a bead failure. I put the bike in the backyard while we drove back up to Mt. Bachelor to get the vehicle, upon returning home the tire had completely blown off the rim. It may be an isolated incidence but I won't risk being 20 miles out in the wilderness on this tire again.

Shimano XT FC-M770 Hollowtech II Crankset

Shimano XT FC-M770 Hollowtech II Crankset

Rating for this product: 5 June 8, 2010

I can't think of a single bad quality of this crank. It is light, it is stiff, it is extremely durable and it even looks good. These cranks hold up to all the abuse I can throw at them whether it is hooking pedals in a rock garden or standing up to north shore style drops. The logos even hold up really well as long as you arent duck footed and drag your shoes across them all the time. The BB is even pretty stout, however I have upgraded mine to a King BB for the durability and flash factor. So bottom line if you want a crank that is stiff light and durable this is it.

There is nothing I don't like about this stem. The machine work, the anodization, the logo work all the way down to the hardware they use they really hit a homerun. If it weren't for the discouraging price these derailleurs fetch I would have them on every bike I ride. I run them when I can afford the, but mostly on my XC/AM rig as I can't afford to keep a stock of these for my DH/FR rig. The shifting on these combined with the XO shifters is unparalleled, it is crisp, fast and extremely precise. The 1:1 actuation is superb and the longevity this equipment displays is amazing as long as it does not get mangled in a brief contact with immovable objects.

These are awesome rotors, they are very straight out of the package and they have a great strength to weight ratio. They shed mud really well and have a generally short burn in period. The Benchmark For Brakes

Shimano Saint Hydraulic Disc Brake BR-M810 - Assembled

Shimano Saint Hydraulic Disc Brake BR-M810 - Assembled

Rating for this product: 4 June 8, 2010

These brakes help set the standard for the DH/Freeride brakes on the market! They are still lightweight enough they don't hamper that uber light DH race build but burly enough they can still be counted on the put a halt to that failed attempt at the 30 ft Road Gap you sissied out on. So whether you rally the Garbanzo DH or huck down Upper Oil Can these brakes are the stuff!

Great adjustability for reach and pad contact plus great modulation, none of that on/off braking.
Brakes I have owned in the past: Magura Gustav(the OG yellow ones), Hayes Nine, Shimano XT(older style), All the Avid Juicy brakes, and even a few sets of the old Magura HS-22 on my old bikes.

After years and years of using The OG Park Pedal wrench with a 9/16 on one side and a 15mm on the other side and using the 9/16 only once or twice I decided it was time to switch. What a glorious transition it was too. No more repositioning the cranks for a better angle on the wrench flats and no more squinting to see which side to use when in a hurry. Hopefully the girlfriend doesnt figure out how great this wrench is and decide that she would rather have it than the new PW-4 I bought right before handing her down my old pedal wrench.

The Best Hitch Rack

Thule Transport T2 with STL2 Lock - 2 Bike

Thule Transport T2 with STL2 Lock - 2 Bike

Rating for this product: 5 May 21, 2010

As for an all around easy to use hitch mounted bike rack there should be no other choice in your mind. Thule hit a home run on this one. Strong enough for my DH bike and adjustable enough to fit even my 20 incher this rack does it all. The easy to use ratcheting tire hook cinches down over the front wheel quickly and securely, snug up the rear tire strap and you are all set. As mentioned by Hating Ohio below the locking mechanism leaves a little to be desired but if you are spending $400 on a rack then you are obviously an avid cyclist and would never trust your bike to a simple rack lock. I carry a cable lock with me at all times as a deterrent to less than honest people, lets face it if someone wants your whip they are gonna get it.
Now onto the the details, available in a 2" or 1 1/4" this can fit either hitch type and provides a secure interface between rack and vehicle. Add on the 2 bike extension and this rack is capable of handling four DH bikes(trust me, Done It). You can't beat this rack for shuttle runs with your buddies in Post Canyon or setting shuttle on the McKenzie river trail.

The Fox Titan is nice. However I like the little bit off extra added protection of the solid front panel of the 661 as it zips on the side. The 661 also has some nice little touches like gauntlet cuffs that help keep the sleeves in place. Other than that they are pretty similar in protection. 661 has been refining their design for the last 8 or so years while Fox is a little newer to the body armor market.

These are tubes, the same tubes you will likely find at any LBS with a different brand stamped on them. So if you want your tube to hold air in a non pretentious I need ultra-light latex kinda way then these tubes will work just fine.

Avid Brake Adapter

Avid Brake Adapter

Rating for this product: 5 May 19, 2010

It does exactly what is supposed to, it adapts. I like the nice finished look of the avid adapters, they have a nice beadblasted smooth finish and seem to have a durable anodized finish.

Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag

Rating for this product: 5 May 19, 2010

You cant go wrong with one of these! I have three or four different iterations at this point. I got my first when I was crutch bound for 6 months from an injury. I have had a few more over the years and and they have all been great, not one of them has worn out. I even have one that I found on the streets of Holland in a rubbish pile. I think it has to be my favorite. If you need a messenger don't hesitate to grab a Timbuk2.

Sugoi Gustov Trail Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

May 18, 2010

Sugoi runs truer to size than some of the other notoriously small euro brands, but it still runs a little small generally so if you are on the cusp of a larger size I would suggest sizing up to the larger size for sure.

Look Cycle 566 SRAM Rival Bike

May 18, 2010

Depending on your preferred style of riding you could ride either size as you fall right between the two. I would recommend sizing down rather than sizing up personally. If you prefer more saddle to bar drop and a slightly shorter cockpit go with the 55cm. If you like a more upright position but a slightly larger cockpit area you could try the 57cm, but I think you will find you end up have to go with a really short stem for a comfortable fit.

ZOIC Reign Knicker - Men's

May 18, 2010

The waist on the pants does include a "shoestring" like cinch string to take up the slack for those of us with wide hips/narrow waist. As for the bunching issue, these should have pretty minimal bunching as they are a lightweight nylon and only two layers in the waist band area unlike some others that are three even four layers at the waist band. So with the proper "shoelace" tension these should hold there closure at the button interface just fine. I think we all wish science could figure out a way to eliminate the " I look fat when I hunch over" syndrome.

What have I been waiting for?

Crank Brothers Joplin L Drop Seatpost

Crank Brothers Joplin L Drop Seatpost

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2010

I picked up one of these for my mini-dh/wanna pedal to the top bike because I needed a little longer seatpost. All I can say is WOW, what the hell have I been waiting to purchase one of these for. I now have one on my AM bike as well and it is so worth the weight gain.

A little note on function. It may seem that the post is not working properly and feels spongy at the top of it's stroke. All you have to do to remedy this is cycle the post up and down a few times to get that solid feel back. After sitting for any length of time you may find it necessary to do this.

Holy wide bars

Loaded AmX Handlebar

Loaded AmX Handlebar

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2010

I bought these with the intention of cutting them down. I have them on my Intense Slopestyle and am pretty happy with them. They definitely hinder some of the tight moves on the singletrack. Where these bars shine is the descents. The added control of the amazing wingspan on these is incredible(790mm). I jumped back on my AM rig this weekend and it felt like someone switched my bars with some fixie kids bike.

Park Tool Single Speed Spanner - SS-15C

Rating for this product: 4 May 17, 2010

This wrench does its job. It is simple and effective and even opens bottles. It has a 15mm socket wrench and a 15mm open end box wrench for pedals. Other than that it isn't useful for much other than throwing at someone because it is kinda heavy.

Giro Ionos Cycling Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2010

Light, well ventilated and stylish. Everything an h-core Roadie could want, eh. I have been riding this helmet for the last year or so and have been thoroughly pleased. I wear it on my MTB, my cross bike and as a road helmet. It might be a little light duty as a MTB helmet but it gets the job done. It is like I am wearing nothing at all.

Nice Fit, Decent Breathability

Cutter Cyclical eVent Jacket - Men's

Cutter Cyclical eVent Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 May 17, 2010

I wear this jacket mainly as a commuting piece to cut the breeze early in the AM. I live in the desert where one might think sweating out wouldn't be a problem. This jacket does an honorable but not amazing job of breathing. It would be nice to have a set of pit zips or perhaps some small core vents. I am 6' and 175lbs and I am wearing the large. Sleeve length is great but it could be slightly more tapered in the body. I look forward to using this more in the fall as an MTB Jacket and am sure it will be more adequately suited to that purpose for me.

Shimano Dura Ace RD-7900 Rear Derailleur

May 17, 2010

While Shimano did make a GS version of the 7900 rear derailleur it was not widely distributed. As demand for triple fronts wanes there will be far less availability for such a long caged derailleur on the market. There may be a chance you could locate one but I have checked with a few vendors and no one seems to stock them.

Shimano Dura Ace FC-7950 Compact Crankset DO NOT USE

May 4, 2010

As long as your Ultegra is 10-speed the Dura-Ace is compatible with it. Intense Cycles Spider 29

April 30, 2010

The major contributing factor to a higher center of gravity is the height of the BB. While a steeper head tube angle combined with a shorter wheel base will lead to a faster more responsive bike it could seem twitchier leading one to believe it has a higher center of gravity. As for sizing at 5'7" I would lean towards a small, this allows for a little better control of the bike as you aren't stretched across the cockpit like you are on a medieval torture rack.
