ExOfficio Gill Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2012

Finally some of these companies are making shirts for women that don't have tiny little shoulders and bean pole arms.

This shirt is extremely comfortable and it fits me in the shoulders and arms without having to get the largest size available. It's also a little longer so if you have to lift your arms over your head you don't expose your entire belly.

Way to go ExOfficio!

Stoic eVent Stash Shell - Women's

Stoic eVent Stash Shell - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 June 11, 2011

Unless you're as skinny as a rail and possess no muscle tone, don't buy this jacket.

I'm 5'2" and fairly muscular and even the x-large doesn't fit my arms, even with just a T-shirt on. I have a hard time even zipping it up. I wear a large in the North Face line for a reference. When are outdoor clothing companies going to recognize that all athletic women are not tall and skinny?

I won't slam the technology. The jacket seems very sturdy and light. I commend backcountry.com for it's attempt to design it's own product but this fit is really terrible.

Sadly, I'll be sending it back.

The North Face GTD Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 19, 2010

I love these shirts!

They fit well and wick moisture. I wear them when I run with usually just a shell when its in the 30's and by themselves to keep the sun off.

The only problem I have with this years version is the lack of a small outside pocket on the bottom right hand side. It's nice to be able to have options for keys when running.

Other than that, the shirt is tip-top.

Burton Supreme Snowboard Boot - Women's - 09/10

Burton Supreme Snowboard Boot - Women's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 2 January 28, 2010

I sincerely hope that Burton has improved this model from last years nightmare. The speed zone lacing system they use is pure junk. This lacing system has busted 3 times within months of each other. What's worse is you can't fix it yourself without some "special tool" that doesn't seem to be available to us consumers. I'm getting to the point where I really feel Burton owes me for 3 days on the mountain for this inconvenience.

On the plus side I do love the heat-moldable liner. However dealing with this issue and getting it so it fits just right also costs money.

I threw down a huge chunk of change for these boots and am extremely disappointed. I hate to write such a negative review concerning a Burton product but I would look elsewhere.

Burton Board Sack - 09/10

January 28, 2010

It doesn't provide as much protection as other bags available but if you pack clothes around your board it seems to work. I've used it 4-5 times flying this way and have had no problems. Make sure that the bag doesn't exceed whatever weight limitations the airline you are using has in force.

Ride NRC Snowboard Binding

November 18, 2009

If you are happy with Ride, you should stick with it. I'm like you, I buy gear every 5 or so years and have stuck with the same company since the 80's. Ride makes a great product. I do recommend getting bindings with toe caps. (straps that cup the toe end of the boot as opposed to cinching it directly over the top of the boot.) I can't tell if this model has that function but you could probably convert it. I've used a toe cap for the last 4-5 years and would never go back.

Salomon Grip Snowboard

November 18, 2009

I think you should stick with the 157. If you want it for an all mountain board then I assume you will be hitting some powder. I don't care how much rocker is in this board. I weigh 154 and my all mountain boards are anywhere from a 156 to 159. You want more float when you are not in the park. Where do you ride? People in the east tend to stick with shorter boards because they don't get the powder that we do in the West. In any case, I would still get the 157. Especially if you like to lay down a carve getting to your destination. Hope this helps.

Mountain Hardwear Corsica Convertible Pant - Women's

November 18, 2009

Hi Cathy, These pants are pretty bomber. Mountain Hardware makes their pants in Short, medium and long. I would definitely get the short version and refer to the size chart for these pants. Backcountry.com provides pretty accurate sizing charts for their products. I've only had to send back one item in the years I've been using them and it was very easy. I think they are plenty warm for fall hiking. When it's a little too chilly I just add long underwear to the mix. I do recommend these.

The North Face Greenland Zip Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 16, 2009

I've had these boots for the last two seasons and they are fantastic for shoveling after a foot or so of snow. I wear smartwool socks in them. I don't even use the zippers although they usually suck my socks off if I don't. I throw them on in the winter for early morning shoots that don't take me too far into the wilderness. Swix Waxing Table - Small

Rating for this product: 4 November 13, 2009

I finally purchased a tuning table after years of using my stove and the counter across from it to tune my snowboards. Be sure you buy the correct vise for your equipment. This table works quite well but if you don't have the snowboard in a more centered position, it could tip on you while scraping wax. Apparently Swix has a snowboard specific table. It's also quite heavy for a product that is supposed to be portable. It does fold up nicely. We have a limited work space so it's nice to break it down and set it in a corner. If you're looking to set up a temporary space to work in then this is a worthy product.

V.I.O. POV 1.5 Camera

Rating for this product: 3 November 13, 2009

This is an ok little camera but where's the HD? I mean, cmon! In addition to that the software is not compatible with my computer. I was recommended a download on line and that one sucks as well. I do like all the options for attachment that come with it. The remote leaves a lot to be desired, they can't even supply enough velcro to fit over a ski jacket. The processor is huge and is attached to the lens by an incredibly stiff cable. Don't buy those packages from B&H Camera that include the cheap Mountainsmith fanny pack, it barely holds the processor. Seek other options. I have the attachment that goes with goggles. It took a bit of tweaking but it's working ok. I would probably wait for a while to see if VIO is going to turn out an HD camera if you want to spend this much money.

Vented and light

Deuter Futura Pro 34 SL Backpack - Women's - 2100cu in

Deuter Futura Pro 34 SL Backpack - Women's - 2100cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 13, 2009

I've hiked with this pack for the past two seasons and it is the most well vented pack I have. Here in the foothills of Boulder during the summer temps can dwell in the 90's and up. I'm 5'2" and sometimes it's hard to realize you even have it on. The only complaint would be that the Waist belt is not beefy enough. I think you are pushing it comfort wise when you start nearing the 25 pound capacity that this pack claims to have. I wouldn't load it up with trad gear or anything. I like to pack a DSLR camera, one or two lenses and various other stuff for day trips and this pack can end up being a little uncomfortable around the waist if you're lugging around anything over 15 pounds. The shoulder straps are quite comfortable. My shoulders are not too wide and a lot of packs don't fit me there. I love the torso adjustment on it, very easy to maneuver. All in all, I would recommend this pack if you are hauling around a lot of gear that doesn't weigh too much.

Rating for this product: 3 November 7, 2009

I love Merrells. But if you are looking for support, look elsewhere. The laces don't keep the shoes from becoming loose even when you double knot them. The traction is fantastic and they are well vented but I found myself constantly having to stop and tighten the fit during a recent hiking trip in Hawaii. Don't even think of running in them for any length of time. I've relegated them to my 1-2 hour hikes. A little disappointing.

DAKINE Sequoia Glove - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 6, 2009

I usually wear mediums but have short fingers. The fingers are too long. While it is warm and waterproof the gaiter part of the glove doesn't extend far enough over my jacket. If you have to remove your gloves for any reason they are difficult to put back on and adjust when it's windy or snowing when your other hand is gloved. If the gaiter was made with a stiffer material and more extended it would work better. I use these as my backup gloves for snowboarding. I break them out for milder conditions. When it's nasty out I use the Black Diamond Prodigy but that glove is twice as expensive. Bottom Line: If it fits your hand it's not a bad glove for the price.

The North Face Classic Denali Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 6, 2009

I bought this jacket in a medium on sale. They do run big. Probably should have gotten a large but they didn't have one in a color I would want. I'm 5"2" and 150 and usually have to buy a large or xlarge. I've always wanted a denali jacket but could never get past the price. It's great if you get cold easily although I wouldn't want to layer underneath a shell because it is kind of bulky. It's also quite short in the waist so tall girls may want to try one on before they order. I like the nylon around the shoulders. I haven't experienced any wear issues on the jacket from using a backpack in the winter while snowshoeing. You can heat up fast in it. I find myself stripping out of it on cold sunny days but if it's windy you'll probably keep it on.

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 6, 2009

I bought this jacket at REI before a trip to Vermont in the summer. My previous jacket was stolen in Hawaii. This jacket far surpasses the older marmot jacket I had. It's lighter end easier to pack. It's really not that breathable so the pit zips come in handy If warmth is a concern just simply layer underneath it. Also the hood is a bit large. The brim does droop down if not adjusted. I would like to see a hood that you can remove but I guess that defeats the purpose of a rain jacket and it would also add weight. I'm short and stocky and had to buy a large. The sleeves are a bit long but not obnoxiously long. I didn't have a chance to use it in Hawaii this past season because it doesn't rain too much in September. It worked beautifully in Pennsylvania as it rains quite often in the summer and came in very handy while breaking down an art tent in a steady rain. Bottom line: I'll use it for years to come.

The product works quite well. I remember the days of using toluene, so bad for the lungs. Make sure to use this product in a well ventilated area since it has a very strong odor. It doesn't remove a whole lot of old wax so make sure you do some scraping first. Does a great job on removing dirt, old colored wax, and even rust. Great product!

Rating for this product: 2 November 4, 2009

I don't like this scraper. I find it very hard to hold. It's just too small. I prefer the larger rectangular scrapers. With any scraper you have to make sure they have half decent edge. I can't imagine using this thing will a dull edge.

Yes, it is small so it's easy to carry around but if you need to really crank on something then look elsewhere. Also after a while the screw bits don't fit too well. I lost the phillips in the snow. Finally ended up replacing it with a dakine tool

Oakley A-Frame Goggle

Oakley A-Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 November 4, 2009

I've used these goggle for years and they have never let me down. I have a very small face so if you are in this catagory then these are the goggle for you. I have the persimmon lenses. They are great for most anything. Sometimes on really sunny days above tree line they don't feel dark enough but it's tolerable. I'd also like to add that I was wearing these long before his highness Shawn White even existed. People, if it doesn't fit, don't buy it. In any case, Oakley makes a primo product in many sizes. They have fogged up on me once last season and it was because we had really wet snowy conditions. Don't let them sit on a wet hat or head for too long and always have a spare pair in your bag.

Zeal Detonator SPPX Goggle - Polarized Photochromic

Rating for this product: 3 November 4, 2009

I hate to give such awesome goggles a 3 star rating but they just don't fit my face. Too much air leaking in below my eyes. I don't wear a helmet so that is not the issue. I have a small face. The Photochromatic function is fantastic going from above tree line to shaded gullies. Unfortunately I returned them after one day of use and traded them for a pair of Oakley A-frames. So If they fit your face I would definitely recommend these.

Almost perfect

OGIO Terminal Rolling Bag - 5800cu in

OGIO Terminal Rolling Bag - 5800cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 2, 2009

This bag is fantastic. All my gear fits for snowboarding. I have two jackets, pair of heated boots with chargers two pairs of socks, two pairs of gloves, two pairs of goggles, a one fleece, one t-shirt, two sets of long underwear, my ipod with over the ear headphones, a first aid kit, knife, tool set, small pack towel, head lamp, etc. There is still room for more. It's a big bag and can get quite heavy if you have to lift it for any reason. Thank god for the wheels. I've had it for a season and have put it though some abuse. No airplane yet but a lot of road tripping. If you want a bag for long trips or like to pack lots of extra gear then this bag is for you. It's built to take a lot of abuse. I've had problems with Zippers busting on a recent Burton bag and this is it's replacement. Ton's of pockets for equipment separation. I even pack spare casual wear in the event I get stuck in the mountains. (Not such a bad thing!) and does happen occasionally. You can even pack a small backpack if it's empty. The only thing I would change is the bag is extremely soft. The material itself is very strong but I would like to see a semi-hard case that retains it's shape for more protection when other heavy luggage is thrown on top of it. I don't keep anything breakable in the outside pocket. Other than that, this bag rocks!

A little disappointed

Burton Rider's Bag - 40L - 09/10

Burton Rider's Bag - 40L - 09/10

Rating for this product: 3 November 2, 2009

This bag just wasn't big enough for the gear I like to take to the mountains so I ended up giving it to my cousin after a few seasons. The reason I gave it only 3 stars is because the zippers are easily broken. I ended up breaking 3 of them off and rigging some nylon cord into it. Worked better than nothing but pretty disappointing for a Burton Product. Any existing pockets for extra gear are quite small so If you like bringing extra clothing, extra anything actually, you will be bumming. I like to bring spare goggles, extra pair of gloves and an insulated jacket. This little bag just isn't big enough for all that. So if you are content with a minimum amount of gear this size will do. Beware of zipper breakage.

Burton Wheelie Gig Bag - 09/10

Burton Wheelie Gig Bag - 09/10

Rating for this product: 4 November 2, 2009

We bought two of these bags before our Heliboarding trip to BC. We took 4 boards and removed the bindings. We put 1 board each in both of the bags just in case one of the bags was lost. These bags worked great, easy to get around in the airport. I'd like to see a few more interior pockets for tools and such, hence the 4 star rating. If you are just traveling in the car then stuff some clothing in with the boards. The bag itself is padded fairly well but there is plenty of room to pack clothing and other supplies. Highly recommended.

DAKINE Camera Block - 800cu in

November 2, 2009

It should but it might be a tight fit. I was told by a dakine rep that these camera blocks would fit in MOST of their packs. The block itself is 880 cubic inches. I cram my block into my poacher pack and it's a tight fit. The dakine backpacks for photo use are designed to specifically carry camera equipment. The pack you are talking about is 1200 cubic inches and it also depends if your pack has a rear entry so the block can be put in easier.

DAKINE Poacher Backpack - 2300cu in

November 2, 2009

Yes, it does depend on personal preference. This is a large pack. If you don't pack it full of stuff it shouldn't be too heavy. I use mine with an insert for photography equipment. I've never run into any issues with resorts telling me I can't get on a lift with this size pack so I don't know what the previous commentator means by this. If you are heading out with a heliboarding outfit they always try to discourage you from bringing a large pack but they all do that since they are trying to cram as many people into a small space as they can. If you just plan on carrying a few clothing items and a shovel I would get something smaller.

Lightest board ever

Burton Vapor Snowboard - 09/10

Burton Vapor Snowboard - 09/10

Rating for this product: 4 October 29, 2009

I purchased one of these in a 159cm last year for $500 on sale. The stance is very centered so it doesn't cut through powder as well as the malolo or fish. If you have long legs it shouldn't be an issue. I would like to see more adustment options if you want to move your stance back toward the rear of the board. It is without a doubt the lightest board I've ever owned. I have a pair of lexa bindings on it. I do like to new binding system but on the longer boards I don't think there is enough adustment for those of us with shorter stances. It carves exceptionally well and has plenty of pop. It is a good all around mountain board but quite expensive. I wouldn't have bought it at full price.

Burton SE7EN Snowboard

Burton SE7EN Snowboard

Rating for this product: 4 October 29, 2009

This board is fantastic when the snow hasn't happened in a while. It's quite wide and very stable on landings. Easy to ride fakie or ducked out if you're into that. It actually carves quite well as wide as it is. Make sure edges are tuned properly. A little sluggish in the crud but you can't have it all. I've noticed I really have to keep up on the waxing of this board. It doesn't hold wax as well as some of my other boards but for the price it's an excellent board.

Burton Malolo Snowboard - 09/10

Rating for this product: 5 October 29, 2009

I have this board in a 158cm. I'm 5'2" and 150. It has a wider nose that stays up beautifully in deep light powder. It also cuts through crud and windblown snow better than expected. You don't burn out your rear leg like you would on a board with a more centered stance. You have a fairly unlimited stance option on this board much like other Burtons. You can carve it up in the corduroy as well, just make sure your edges are fairly sharp in the even you have to travel over any ice as this board doesn't have a very deep side cut.

Rating for this product: 3 October 29, 2009

I bought a pair of these a few years back. The padding over the speakers is completely round and my ears don't fit in them. Too bad they don't come with an alternative padding option.

Skullcandy Icon Headphones

Skullcandy Icon Headphones

Rating for this product: 4 October 29, 2009

I can't really complain too much about these headphones. Skullcandy was giving them away on the day they opened Taos to Snowboarding. I have a small head. Without a hat they just fit. With a hat on and goggles secured around them they fit fine. They are very light, you almost forget you have them on. My only gripe is there is not a volume adjustment on the headphones themselves. Here at Loveland it can get quite windy and cold. I don't like to screw around with my ipod when I'm on the hill, I'd rather just turn the volume up or down to talk, that is if I feel like talking. I do have my days where I don't want to chat on the chair or, even worse, listening to some idiot talking on their cellphones. Headphones usually indicate to these boneheads that you are otherwise occupied. I'd get the brighter colors so people can see them. I do recommend these phones if you don't care about the volume issue.

The North Face XTC Lightweight 1/4 Zip Long Underwear Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 28, 2009

I wear this shirt as a first layer when snowboarding. It fits well but they do run small. I've never had much of a reek issue with it. I really think that factor depends on your own personal DNA. Sometimes all you need around your neck is just a little bit of warmth and this shirt does it. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars is that the other reviewers are correct about the snagging issue. It happens very easily. I think the length is just right. I'm 5'2 and petite. It may be a little short for women with long torsos so buy accordingly.

The North Face Reckoning Tee - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 28, 2009

This review is for the long sleeve version since I don't see any listed here.I really love this shirt. It wicks away the sweat and the reek factor is lower than most shirts like this but I think that depends on your own personal reek factor. It has a fairly slim fit and the length is perfect. I'm 5'2 and usually wear petite sizes. It doesn't ride up during running like a comparable asics top I also use. My hands get cold easy on crisp mornings so I love the thumb holes.

The North Face Embossed TKA 100 Glacier 1/4 Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 28, 2009

This zip fleece is incredibly warm. I had it on under a shell during a trail run in 32 degree weather. At one point I had to take it off. I can only imagine what it does on a powder day. I only gave it 4 stars because the sleeves are quite long. I wear petite sizes. Also, they are not kidding when they say slim fit. If you are looking for something a bit roomier, look elsewhere. It works well with some type of wicking layer underneath. I have the plum color, it definitely gets noticed.

Brunton SolarRoll Flexible Solar Panel

Brunton SolarRoll Flexible Solar Panel

Rating for this product: 3 July 28, 2009

I bought the 9 volt on sale to take while camping so I could charge my camera battery. It does not charge unless the sun is out so I don't know if I would take it to Vietnam or any other wet environments.. You must also make sure to purchase the proper adapters for your equipment.

I do wish you could roll it up a little tighter but wrapping it around a water bottle is an excellent idea as are the suction cups for glass. I used a small nylon cord and a carabiner to attach it to the sunny side of my tent.

Solar tech has come a long way. I'd like to see these work on a cloudy day and a drop in price as these are quite expensive. I don't think I would have purchased this had it not been on sale.

Fantastic if you have a short torso

ExOfficio Dryflylite Button-Up Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

ExOfficio Dryflylite Button-Up Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 28, 2009

I love this shirt! I own it in three colors in the checked pattern. They are extremely packable and light. I took two of them on a camping trip. I like to test my gear so for 3 days in a row I wore the same shirt without washing it. On the 3rd day it wasn't reekerific and my compadres could stand my stench. Everyone is different in their reek factor so take my advice accordingly. The other one I washed with a camp soap and hung it to dry overnight. We had rain that night and it was dry mid-morning without sun. I have also washed one of these shirts at home and immediately put it on---dry in 5-10 minutes.

One of the other reviewers didn't like the zip pockets. I have to disagree, I like the fact that they are understated pockets. I'm a photographer and like to throw my lens caps in and secure them with the zippers so they don't fall out. I know that Ex Officio makes a similar shirt with regular pockets so please don't change this feature. Also, some of the other viewers find this shirt on the short side. I have to agree, I'm 5"2" and this shirt is just a tiny bit short on me. I can't imagine having a long torso and wearing this so Ex Offico could definitely make it at least a tiny bit longer. They could also put the buttons on the outside of the sleeves a bit farther up. My arms are short and the sleeves hang below my elbows when utilizing the buttons. These are the only reasons that keep me from giving this shirt a 5 star rating.

I've put this shirt through the acid test and the material is very soft and extremely ballistic. I have no rips or tears after crawling through mud and rocks or scraping it against brush or trees. It also gets softer every time you wash it. In the past, performance clothing that dried quickly was extremely uncomfortable to wear. Not so with this shirt. Highly recommended for short torso individuals.

The North Face Paramount Propel Cargo Pant - Women's

The North Face Paramount Propel Cargo Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 28, 2009

It's hard to find cargo pants with generous pockets for women. Thank you North Face for giving us functional pockets. One small recommendation would be a different closure system for the pockets. I've almost lost a few things when crawling around. However if you remain vertical most of the time then these will work. The only other complaint is the length. I'm 5"2' and still had to have the short size altered.

They are very durable and dry fast. I agree with another who complained about the roughness of the fabric but a few washes did the trick. I plan to buy these in another color.

pretty good tent

Kelty Screenhouse

Rating for this product: 4 July 17, 2009

We purchased the 2008 version. This review is based on that model. It looks like the pole system is different in the newer model and hopefully more improved.

We bought this tent to use in the Green Mountains of Vermont in July. We set it over a picnic table and used citronella candles to keep the bugs out. Worked great. It also kept the rain out numerous times but you have to make sure the storm flaps are down. I don't know if it's waterproof or water resistant but a little nikwax will always help with that. It seems to be fairly sturdy and stays put in gusty wind but I haven't given it the acid test in Colorado yet. It works really well with 4 people, 6 would be a stretch so I would get the large size for more than 4 people.

The main problem I have is with the pole system. The poles when put together are very long and don't hold together well. The cord system within the poles are way to loose. Don't put the poles together first as the directions suggest. Instead, put them together as you feed the poles through the tent. DO NOT PULL THEM. They will come apart, especially during breakdown. I always assemble new tents a few times before I actually use them. It took me longer to break it down than it did to put it up because I attemped to pull them out. If two people put it together it goes much quicker. Just make sure to push and not pull. If the poles come apart inside the tent it takes forever to get them out.

The only other complaint is with the storm flaps located by the zippers on the doors. If the wind is blowing, the flaps are only secured by small velcro strips that don't hold when its windy.

I would still recommend this tent. Kelty makes a fine product. It just needs a few improvements that were hopefully made with the newer model.

Great pants but with the usual problem

The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 10, 2009

The biggest complaint I have with these pants and pretty much any brand of hiking pants for women are the teeny tiny useless pockets on the thigh. The only pants that I have found lately that have half decent pockets are the cargo pants from North Face and Rei makes a version that has zippers. Show me one pair of pants with these useless pockets on ANY brand made for men.

Fit and function are the two most important things I look for when shopping for outdoor gear. I don't care how cute my butt looks in my hiking pants. If they are a little loose, that's okay. I don't want tight clothing when I'm hiking. I'm short and muscular. It's hard to find pants that are a little roomier in the thigh area. I wear a petite size which was still a bit long but I'm so short I've had to alter most of my pants. The cargo pants made by North face are a bit roomier in the thighs but ride low in the waist. These pants seem to be just right on me as I have a short torso. They fit just below the belly button.

North Face is one of the only outdoor clothing companies that make pants in petite sizes and thankfully, depending on the model, they tend to run on the roomier side. I'm an outdoor photographer so I like clothing with pockets that are functional. The pockets on the thigh need to be longer and wider. I can barely get my hand in them. You can barely fit a small wallet with a few cards and cash in these pockets. In order to remedy that, North face could locate the convertible zippers slightly farther down the thigh closer to the knee.

On the positive side, these pants dry very quickly. I find myself having to kneel or lie down when out in the field. They are not waterproof but they do tend to stay fairly dry even when it's lightly raining. I wouldn't recommend wearing these on cold rainy days, the material is light so they are much more suited for warmer weather. All in all, a great pant but because of the pockets, I only give them 4 stars.

Best I've had yet, but

Burton Supreme Heat Snowboard Boot - Women's

Burton Supreme Heat Snowboard Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 23, 2009

I agree with the Burton rep who wrote that these are the best Boot for women out there. My circulation has always been cut off in other boots and had hot spots. I have had no problems with the heat packs. My feet always get cold and I've found that the one setting is always usually warm enough.

I think what many of the reviewers don't understand is that the liners can be heat molded to custom fit your feet. You want to order your regular boot size (they will be tight and uncomfortable. Then take them in to your local shop and have them fitted. It's a little costly but well worth it. You may have to take them in a few more times to have them adjust hot spots but that should be free. It's kind of a hassle and I was skeptical after the first fitting. Had to take mine in 3 times but now they work better and are much more comfortable than any boot I have had in the past. In the past I have had to take a break and remove my boots to recirculate and warm up.

The biggest problem I have with these boots is the speed zone lacing system on both boots is starting to unravel on one side where it comes out of the plastic dealio on either side where you pull up and back to tighten.

Now granted I ride hard and rack up many days during the season but I haven't even used these for a full season. This shouldn't be happening. Not sure what to do about it. You can't just replace the laces. I'll be taking them into my local shop to see what can be done. Hopefully it's not a big deal.

I paid full price for these boots plus approximately another $100 bones to have them custom fitted. Too much money to have this happening so soon.

Still smokin but 1 major issue

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 22, 2009

This jacket has kept me warm every time I have used it. I get comments wherever I go on this design and haven't seen anyone else wearing it.

However, the material used for the shell could be a little more ballistic. I snowboard so I have to carry my board under my arm. The material by the bottom of the pit zipper and down by the side pocket is already wearing away from where the board edge rubs. This is unacceptable.

I've only had one other jacket in 20 years that did this and had to take it to Mountain Mend to have some custom work done in that area. Basically remedied by placing tougher material patches in these areas.

In my opinion, when you shell out $300 bones for this product you should at least get a jacket that has a bulletproof shell and can handle wear and tear for more than 3 months. Quite disappointing. I have dropped my rating down to 3 stars. Please improve this flaw Orage.

One of the best!!!

The North Face Kira Triclimate Jacket - Women's

The North Face Kira Triclimate Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

Kudos to the North Face for designing their clothing for women of All shapes and sizes. I've gained 20 pounds since my competition days and you'd think I'd gained 60. Most outdoor clothing companies must think athletic women are all 5'9" and 110 pounds. C'mon people! I should be able to cram my fat ass in a size large jacket and still be able to layer. Most of these companies don't even make x-large sizes any more. Oh, but they do make x-small for all you 10 year olds out there. Geez!!

Anyway, I've made my point. I'm 5'2 and currently 150. This size large is a great fit and the arm length is not too long. The pockets are generously sized, another rarity in clothing designed for women. I want functional technical outer wear just like the men folk get. If I wanted to make a fashion statement, I'd wear prada and sit in the lodge by the fire. However, if you're a fashionista, this jacket is a 3 in one. The insulating under jacket or whatever you call it is functional as well as great looking. You can wear either one exclusively, but together it provides a great deal of warmth. If you must, you can layer underneath both of them and still zip it up comfortably to your chin. This jacket doesn't bind when you're sitting on the lift. I also like the fact that it has an opening for earphones although I would have preferred it to be located in a different spot so I don't have to unzip the jacket to adjust it. Also, The North face follows suit with other companies that put one pocket on top of the other. (One inside and outside on the same side.) I don't understand this philosophy. If you have to adjust your ipod settings, it makes it difficult to do so if you have put other objects in the same side pocket. That's the only gripe. The goggle pocket is generously huge. Last week after a great sesh I put my gloves, an energy bar, and half a sandwich in there on the way to the parking lot. This jacket also goes well with the freedom pants which I own in a size large.

All in all, nice work North Face. I would recommend this line of clothing to any short, slightly chunky ladies out there who rip it up. Cheers!

It's difficult to find gloves that are warm enough. Especially when it's 10 degrees and the wind is whipping. These gloves were almost too warm at times. I ride the divide in Colorado where it can get quite nasty. I recommend these gloves to all the ladies out there that get cold fast. The are a few downsides that could be easily addressed. There are no wrist leashes. For the hefty chunk of change you lay down for these gloves you should get a set like hestra provides for some of their models. I actually bought a pair of wrist cuffs from hestra for 8 dollars and attached then to the gloves and they work like a charm. Also, these gloves don't come with a mechanism to attach them together so you don't lose one of them when you are not wearing them. C'mon Black Diamond, you can do better than that. Also if you remove the liners, expect to burn some calories trying to get them back in there. I certainly hope this becomes easier after being used for a while but if you don't want to spend 10 minutes trying to get them back in then I recommend not removing them at all. They are toasty warm. Probably the warmest I've ever had and the fit is good. Too often the fingers in gloves are too long but not in this case. I have short fingers and wide hands. I wear the small size. All in all a darn good glove. Could do with some improvements though.

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

It's still toasty warm after a few more uses. We just got 4 feet of fresh over the holidays. Exceptionally good in the wind. It's nice not to have to wear a ton of layers. Also no binding or tightness when you sit on the lift. I like the fact that you can loosen it from the bottom if you have to layer or just want more room. One more small downside that could be easily remedied is that the opening on the goggle pocket on the inside of the jacket is too small. Actually the whole pocket could be a bit bigger. I'm afraid if I'm not careful I'll rip it. No regrets in buying this jacket

One of the best

Burton Lexa EST Snowboard Binding - Women's

Burton Lexa EST Snowboard Binding - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2008

I think the Lexa binding is one of the best out there. I wear size 7 Burton supremes and they fit lexa mediums like a glove. I'm kind of a Burton Junkie from way back. Before the lexa, I rode in the Burton freestyle. What really makes these bindings great is the toe cap. I would not buy another pair of bindings without this feature. They are essential for aggressive riding.

Toasty warm!

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2008

I purchased this jacket a few weeks ago and have worm it 4 times while Snowboarding. So far it's been great. The coldest day was 19 degrees with 0-5 wind and no sun. I get cold very easily but all I had on was a Patagonia zip up fleece underwear and a t-shirt! There are only two downsides to this jacket but they are minor. Orage follows suit with many companies that places pockets in the chest area one on top of the other. (one inside, one outside.) on the same side. I've never understood this philosophy. Why not use both sides? This forces me to carry my ipod and my camera on top of each other. Not very convenient and can be uncomfortable. Also the ipod pocket doesn't have an opening to stick the earphones through but it does have a red piece of cord sewn in as a guide. Lucky for me I decided to go bluetooth and now control everything from my headphones. Hopefully everything will be bluetooth soon so this won't even be an issue.

Back to the good stuff, If you're a fashonista, this jacket gets noticed!! It's not loud like so many ski and snowboard jackets and pants but the compliments roll from every direction. The most important is that it's functional. So many womens jacket and pants are designed with fashion in mind and not function. I'm not a tiny woman any more. Have gained 20 pounds or more since my competition days. It's nice to see that this company makes gear in xlarge sizes. Large sizes aren't what they used to be any more and most clothing is designed for little girls. I'm 5'2 and 150 pounds. I ride hard and mostly do steeps and deeps. It has a powder skirt and the pass holder is located between the powder skirt and the jacket. I kind of like this design but am concerned about the plastic mechanism used to secure the pass. The plastic is quite stiff and might break if its cold enough or possibly hit. Time will tell. This jacket also provides plenty of room to layer as well. You can zip it up all the way if you have to wear more insulation.

All in all, thumbs up!

The North Face Freedom Pant - Women's

The North Face Freedom Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2008

Yes, they do run big and thank you North face for gearing your clothing to all women of all shapes and sizes. Large is actually large. Most outdoor companies design clothing for tall slim women. I'm 5'2 and 150. Usually I have to have some sort of alteration done. the Large/short pants fit great and will go bigger in the waist with a simple adjustment. They even make xlarge pants that were way to big for me. I snowboard and like my clothing fairly loose. I also like the fact that the cargo pocket is actually big enough for me to put my hand in. Again, most pockets in womens ski and snowboard clothing are not functional and if it is, you pay a premium. I want functional clothing when I'm out on the slopes, not fashion. Great product!

Orage Flora Insulated Jacket - Women's

November 30, 2008

This is quite a popular jacket. I just bought one two weeks ago from this site and now it isn't available in my size. Bummer. Try googling the model number/order number of the jacket and you might get lucky. Try calling stores in your area they might find it in another store location. Hope this helps.Update: Dean, go to porterstahoe.com they have it in size large for $239.00!

Burton Lexa EST Snowboard Binding - Women's

November 30, 2008

I've ridden in both these bindings. The models that I have are a couple of years older than what's listed. I think the escapade is a bit more cush than the lexa, meaning that the extra padding does cut down on chatter while riding in dust on crust conditions. It also helps if your landing is a bit sketchy.I don't have a problem with the lexa at all. It's a little cheaper and have this binding on a malolo. Both these bindings are among the best I've owned and I've been snowboarding for 27 years. If you own burton boots it's definitely a plus. Both are good choice for aggressive women riders. Hope this helps.
