finally a ski jacket

Arc'teryx Vertical Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 16, 2012

been waiting for arc'teryx to make a jacket with a hood that disappears. the hood actually rolls up and stows in a zippered collar. I do not like wearing hoods, but it is there for those dumps.
I am 160 lbs 5'8" athletically built and the small fits perfectly since it is an "expedition" fit. I use a hot chilies for a base, my favorite Patagonia zip tee with Patagonia's down sweater for final layer. zip on the vertical jacket and you will be set. the 3 layer gore tex pro is wind and waterproof, making this jacket bomb proof. looks great with my Arc'teryx Stinger Bib Pant. the materials and workmanship are excellent. sorry, made in china. I have them all, kjus, helly hansen, outdoor research and this jacket is fast becoming a favorite.
so, if you want a real ski jacket, I don't care where on the mountain you happen to be, this thing will deliver.

Not Climbing Shorts

Cloudveil Cool Board Short - Men's

Cloudveil Cool Board Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 11, 2008

These fit best on a fit person. Wore these on hike into Grand Canyon. Swam in them in a pinch, dried super fast. Very light yet durable. Waistband is chamois lined, nice touch. Six pockets, 2 hand open, 2 rear zippered and 2 on lower leg with Velcro tab closure. I say use a zipper instead of Velcro. Overall a great short. Comfortable throughout for me since I'm wearing for intended use. These have worked in most restaurants since you won't look like a mountain man. Oh, the colors are OK too.

Nice Jacket, silly logo

Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 18, 2008

Stops wind as advertised while being thin and light. Pit zips are a real plus and the length drops enough to cover your tail. While it does have a cinch cord on the hem, the collar does not. Funny thing because the cheaper MH Link jacket has a collar cinch. The largest negative about this thing is the foolishly large logo on the chest. I just don't understand why MH insists having such a large advertisement on this piece. A smaller more subdued logo would be welcomed. If you can get past the billboard on your chest, this jacket is the best in class.

Excellent Jacket

Spyder Challenger Jacket - Men's

Spyder Challenger Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2008

Great jacket that I wear with the Spyder Bormio ski pant. Blue jacket with black pants, women seem to notice. As usual Spyder has paid great attention to detail in its design and materials. The finest materials and hardware throughout. All the pockets you will ever need, nice goggle wipe on coil which you can anchor in any pocket of your choice, the usual pit zips and a nice hood that is removable. You stow the hood in a large zip pocket located on the lower back of jacket when not in use. The hood folds flat and doesn't protrude when put away, no one will know its there. Although the hood isn't insulated, it really cuts the wind and actually keeps my ears thawed when sitting on a lift. Important since I won't wear a hat. Off the lift, off the hood. It stays out of your way any won't flap around when skiing. Should fit any helmet. The jacket is well insulated, warm without the bulk. Breathes quite well. I wear a Patagonia base and 1/4 zip shirt under jacket and am set in single digit temps. Fit and cut is wonderful, doesn't get in way of skiing at all. You know it's waterproof. A fine jacket that will make you look good on any mountain.

Oakley A Frame Goggle

Oakley A Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 December 27, 2007

Recently purchased during Telluride dump. Fogging never an issue, worked as described. Do not wear on top of head when not in use as the oils from your hair will interfere with the anti-fog coating on inside of lens. Drop them around your neck if you have to. Should you face plant, shake snow off, NEVER wipe the inside of the lens. Use the supplied storage bag to gently wipe OUTSIDE of lens if you must.
I wore them from 9 till 4 in complete comfort for three consecutive days. The Iridium Lens worked fine in low/flat light.
Do yourself a favor and drop another $ for the case. Oakley is famous for charging for cases. Great goggle, you will love them.
