Giordana Silverline Super Roubaix Bib Shorts

Giordana Silverline Super Roubaix Bib Shorts

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2011

This is the first pair of insulated bibs I've purchased and I am very pleased. Tried these bad boys on a century ride in 45 degree F weather for 6 hours in pouring rain. It almost felt like my legs were dry. Very warm and can be paired with knee or leg warmers to extend their use. I am 5'9" 160lbs, the large is a little more relaxed than I'm used to but still fit well. I love Giordana and RealCyclist! Best shorts for the money for sure.

Nice Down Jacket

Marmot Zeus Down Jacket - Men's

Marmot Zeus Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 7, 2011

This down jacket replaced a very nice Mountain Hardware down jacket that I loved, but the sleeves were a little too short. The Zeus' sleeves, however, are plenty long. I am 5'9" 160lbs. and a medium fits loosely, but doesn't look like I'm swimming in it. The only thing I wish it had was fleece lined pockets and collar like the Mountain Hardware jacket, but you can't always get what you want. Overall, a nice replacement though. I've taken it xc skiing, downhill skiing and even on some Iowa winter bike rides and have been very pleased with its warmth and durability. And, of course, top notch service from Backcountry.com. Gotta love 'em!

Shimano SH-MW80 Cold Weather Shoe - Men's

Shimano SH-MW80 Cold Weather Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 15, 2009

I got these boots last winter for bike riding and racing in Iowa. I rode outside with these when the temps reached -25F, but probably won't try it again! They work best above 25F, even with a neoprene booty over top. I also would recommend going a bit larger than your regular Shimano shoe size to accommodate for thicker socks. Once your feet swell it can get a little tight.

NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Bike Light

Rating for this product: 5 October 15, 2009

I've been using the MiNewt Mini for 2 years and I really love this light. No problems from 100F down to -20F and it weighs hardly anything. The light is definitely bright enough to roll downhill at 35mph comfortably, but I do supplement with a head light on the mtn. bike trails so I can see past switchbacks. Very easy to move from bike to bike too.

Took these babies on RAGBRAI and into the Colorado Rockies. Best way to keep your clothes organized when you have to dig through your pack or your panniers when you need something. Highly recommended for minimalist travelers. Get the larger version if you pack a lot.

Lowe Alpine TT Adventurers Wash Bag

Lowe Alpine TT Adventurers Wash Bag

Rating for this product: 4 August 12, 2009

Great LITTLE hygiene bag. It does come with two small bottles (not shown), for soap and such, which could be removed so you could include a razor. Not much room for more than the soap bottles, tooth brush, and a small tube of tooth paste which makes it great for the minimalist.

Castelli Dome Due Bibshort - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 11, 2009

I am 5'9" and 155 lbs. I bought the medium size and I am probably as big as you could squeeze into these. Any larger and they would be uncomfortable. The front of the bibs look a little funny in the sunlight. Kinda shiny or something. The chamois is a bit thinnner than I like but overall I like them.

Hybrid Charger

Solio Solio Hybrid 1000 Charger

Solio Solio Hybrid 1000 Charger

Rating for this product: 4 May 14, 2009

I have only used this on one weekend camping trip but it did the job. I brought it out with a full charge from my laptop and used it to recharge my blackberry (which we were also using for music). Worked like a charm. Then the next day I recharged it in the sun. The only annoying thing about it is you have to chase the sun in order to get a decent charge. A little bit of shade and it won't recharge well. I guess if you are in an open area this wouldn't be a problem but if you are in the middle of the woods it is.

Pearl Izumi Wool Bike Sock

Pearl Izumi Tour Wool Bike Sock

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2009

These are great socks. No smell after long hours in the saddle and very comfortable in warm or cold conditions. One thing though, I own the MD and LG size and fall somewhere in between. I wear a size 9 US or 43 EU which I thought was a pretty standard MD but that is not the case with these. The MD are real snug and the LG are almost too big. Stuck them in the dryer though and they fit better now.

Oakley Half Jacket XLJ Dual Replacement Lenses

Oakley Half Jacket XLJ Dual Replacement Lenses

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

I own the Black Iridium and HI Yellow. I prefer these over the standard Half Jacket lens because they seem to deflect wind better when going 50 miles an hour downhill on your road bike. The lenses are also fairly easy to change out ~ if you follow the directions!

Snow Peak Titanium Cafe Press

Snow Peak Titanium Cafe Press

Rating for this product: 5 November 20, 2008

I have a glass french press for my home and this one is a great score for all camping excursions. I even used it on a few overnight biking tours because its so light, you don't even know its there. And its user friendly. Just boil water in it(I use a packable camping stove), add coffee, wait a few minutes and press. Great coffee anywhere! If you bring friends you may have to make more than one pot, but it boils water in no time.
