G3 Alpinist Climbing Skin DO NOT USE

G3 Alpinist Climbing Skin DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 1 May 22, 2011

The biggest problem for me was the adhesive. Three trips (6ish hr trips with many laps/transitions) in a row these 130mm skins slipped from the ski and allowed for snow buildup between skin and ski. Yep, you can warm them up by putting them in your jacket, or you can use red straps to hold them to your skis....but then you are cold, wet, and slow.
No reason to buy these when BD has better ones for sale.

Great Bivy

Outdoor Research Advanced Bivy

Outdoor Research Advanced Bivy

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2010

I don't have this bivy, but my friend does, and his OR bivy works a lot better than the one I have (a Sierra Designs 4 season with the bendable wire). We had 3-4" of rain in one night as a tropical storm pounded New England. He was dry as could be come morning since you can adjust the overhang on his bivy, and I was literally swimming since I could not. There is enough room in the OR bivy to read, and generally enough room between your breath (CO2) and the screen to keep the bug count down. I can't even sleep in my bivy in the summer, since the bugs stay right on my screen and buzz all night.

Good pack, doesn't fit larger guys too well

Black Diamond Covert with Avalung Winter Pack - 1343-1953 cu in

Black Diamond Covert with Avalung Winter Pack - 1343-1953 cu in

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2009

I'm 6' 4" and have the largest version they make of this pack. It still seems pretty small to me. Alas, the integrated Avalung is key..I put it in my mouth when skiing very deep powder in the BC. It will help out in a tree well situation as well as in an avalanche. My mouthpiece came in upside down with the pack, but none of my buddies did...so just an anomaly there. It still works. The shoulder straps could offer more resistance since they tend to loosen up on me. They are infinitely better than the BCA straps, however. I like the shovel pocket for sure....and for me it seems compartmentalized enough. The ski loops are plenty big for whatever ski you have (I've use a 154/139/150 on it)...but keep in mind they aren't adjustable. If you are carrying teles (or anything w/o brakes), carry a red strap with you just so you're skis stay put while carrying them with this pack.

A great shell for skiing

Westcomb Mirage Jacket - Men's

Westcomb Mirage Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2008

Seems great so far. The XL fit me well...I'm 6'4" 235lbs, so not tiny. Breathes well, and the pitzips and powder skirt are both key. Pretty much all the bells and whistles you need for a hard-core skiing shell.
