Garmin Edge 500 With Cadence and HRM

Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2012

Love all the data you can collect from this bike computer, but specifically wanted a computer with HR monitor. Upload my info on Strava after my rides and like the fact that I can compare my previous times up my favorite climbs. Holds a charge well and can certainly overwhelm you with all the info that can be shown. Don't use the cadence sensor anymore as it seemed like too much clap-trap on my steed. Don't need any wires or magnets on my bike, just stick the computer on and everything is GPS based. Awesome product!

Castelli Velocissimo Equipe Vest

September 27, 2012

Does anyone know if the back of this vest is also water resistant (same as the front)? Is this vest fleece lined on the inside, or is it a thin material that's easily compressible into a jersey pocket? And lastly, are there any rear pockets or a zipper to access the pockets underneath the vest like other Castelli vests have? Thanks.

Hincapie Sportswear Merino Wool 6in Crew Socks

Rating for this product: 5 August 29, 2012

Tried these out while on was on vacation in Iceland in August and they handled the cooler, damp climate of Iceland quite fine. Keep in mind I wore them hiking, but plan on using them for cool weather riding in the winter months. Fit and construction is just fine with these socks and I expect they will hold up very well to several years of use. I wear a size 11.5 shoe and the size large socks fit perfectly.

Hincapie Sportswear PowerCore Merino Wool Base Layer - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 August 29, 2012

Wool makes an amazingly awesome base layer for cool weather riding. I ordered this Hinpcapie wool piece and was unpleasantly surpised to find that it itched when I tried it on. So I sent it back. I own other merino wool items from Icebreaker and Patagonia and they never itch. Perhaps the Hincapie shirt would be fine after washing, but I opted to send it back and get the wool top made by Capo, which does not itch. If you are not a sissy like me who's apparently sensitive to certain merino wool tops, then this would be fine for you. I'm 6'3"/195lbs and the L fit perfectly snug, like a baselayer should.

Castelli Velocissimo Equipe Short Sleeve Jersey

Castelli Velocissimo Equipe Short Sleeve Jersey

Rating for this product: 4 August 1, 2012

Picked up this jersey to match my Castelli Free Aero Race bib shorts in XXL. I'm 6'3"/195 lbs with a 34" waist. XXL is a nice, tight, aero race fit. The red really looks sharp in person, which is the color I purchased, but I have also seen it in black which looks pretty sweet too. The photos online don't do this jersey justice as it looks great in person.

Love the material as well as the fit. Sleeves are tight and IMO the perfect length. They don't slide up my arms, even though they don't have elastic. No grippers around the waist, but has not been an issue on any of my rides. Seems like this jersey will hold up well and last for many seasons.

I'm 6'3"/195 lbs with a 34" waist and ordered these in size Large. Tried them on and found them to be about a size too big. Unfortunately, they are out in Medium.

I found these to be very high quality and would be a great winter bib tight. They are fleece lined throughout, even on the inside of the bib straps, which is a nice touch. Zippers on the leg openings and the top center of the bib are a nice features also.

Castelli Core Mesh Sleeveless Base Layer

Castelli Core Mesh Sleeveless Base Layer

Rating for this product: 5 July 30, 2012

Normally on warm (90 degree plus) riding days I don't want anything close and surrounding my skin to not allow it to breathe. On climbs I like to zip my jersey all the way down and let the air cool my chest. However, after reading some reviews and talking to friends, it seemed like a mesh base layer, such as this one, would be very beneficial on hot days in the saddle. In the past I've tried PI's base layer on hot days, but found that it did not breath well and just stuck to my upper body. The magic of this base layer is the mesh material and how it lets air flow get between your jersey, bib straps, and chest to keep you cool. I wore this on a 60 mile voyage last weekend in 90+ degree temps and it made a significant difference. If I had to gauge, I would say it cooled my body temp by 5 or more degrees.

I normally wear XXL in all Castelli gear, but found the L/XL provided the tight, next to skin fit I wanted for a base layer. It's a very stretch piece - so no sense wearing it in a size that fits loosely. Also, I recommend washing by hand and taking great care not to let this piece in contact with velcro (IE - gloves or road ID).

Capo Verona Thermal Jacket

July 30, 2012

I'm 6'3" 195 lbs and own the Capo Dorato Thermal Jacket in XL. I have a 44" chest and 34" waste. I prefer a snug fit that does not allow much, if any, flapping of the jacket material in the wind. You could aways order the XL and XXL and send back the one that does not fit just to make sure you get the size you prefer the best. I also own the Capo Verona thermal jersey in XL and I like the fit. The XXL seems to have more room in the chest in my opinion, but fit is the same elsewhere. Good luck.

I wear Euro 46/US 11.5 Sidi shoes and the XXL booties fit perfectly! They are very sturdy/durable and I can already tell they are going to be warm and last for many seasons. They have a zipper in the back and a velcro closure to cover up the zipper. I typically do not ride if it's below 40, but these will do the trick to suit my needs. Rating for this product: 1 July 18, 2012

Ordered this shirt in an XL - would normally wear an L, but that size was out of stock. Held the shirt up after opening the package and could not believe how tiny it was! It seriously looked like a Women's size or even a kid's size. Just for the heck of it, I tried it on and it felt like I was putting on a compression top or something. I don't know what's up with the sizing on this shirt, but I cannot imagine an XXL fitting a normal sized adult male. Sorry RC, but this one is going back as a return.

Fantastic Bib Shorts with a great chamois

Competitive Cyclist Racing Team Bib Shorts DO NOT USE

Competitive Cyclist Racing Team Bib Shorts DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 July 12, 2012

Big fan of Competitive Cyclist and have purchased a lot of gear from those guys so I don't mind advertising for them while putzing around on a ride. These shorts are not over the top with graphics and these are the first pair of Giordana bibs I've purchased. I'm very happy with the quality of construction and material used. At first observance, there's nothing special that stands out with the chamois, but 30 minutes into my 50 minute ride up into the canyons where I live I could tell the chamois was going to work for me. It's the type of chamois that disappears under your ace and you can focus on the discomfort in your legs instead of any issues with your behind.

I'm 6'3" tall with 34" waist and weigh 195 lbs and went with the XXL. I also tried on the XL, but the bib straps were not quite long enough. The folks at Competitive Cyclist were helpful with the sizing by stating Giordana runs similar to Castelli. i completely agree.

The fabric of the bib straps is very unique and I find them to be very comfortable. I match the bibs with the Competitive Cyclist jersey for the complete look, however I don't look too pro where I feel like I have to back it up by trying to not let anyone pass me on the road. The inseam on the bib shorts is the perfect length and they are even UPF rated.

I've had these on 2 long rides up into the mountains where I live and cannot find anything negative to write about them. They do not have silicon leg grippers, which is a plus in my opinion. Instead, the inside of the short where leg gripper would typically be has the same material that's on the inside of the bib straps, which is supposed to promote breathing.

Bottom line, these are highly recommended and I think for the price they are very worth the investment.

Incredibly nice jersey!

Competitive Cyclist Racing Team Short Sleeve Jersey

Competitive Cyclist Racing Team Short Sleeve Jersey

Rating for this product: 5 July 12, 2012

Really love this jersey by Giordana for the CC cycling team! Sizing is very similar to Castelli - so XXL was perfect for me at 6'3", 195 lbs and a 34" waist. The craftsmanship of this jersey is second to none and the sponsorship details are subtle and not over the top! I like the lightweightness of the material and it does a great job of wicking sweat off your upper body. I like the terminus of the sleeves, as well as the material that is on the inside of the sleeves and inside of the bottom of the jersey. The color is more gray than white, which I prefer because any all white kits I own fade over time and look dated, but this one should hold up for many years. I purchased the bib shorts as well to have a matching kit. The bib shorts rock as well! Highly recommended and worth the higher price than your typical jersey.

Seem fine to me!

Capo Enzo SF Gloves

Capo Enzo SF Gloves

Rating for this product: 4 July 11, 2012

After my wife crashed on her road bike and tore up her hands, I decided to start wearing gloves on my rides as a precaution. I love Capo's gear and decided to pick these gloves up. I own other gloves by Pearl Izumi and Champion Systems, and found these gloves to fit me well and also be durable. Perhaps there was a bad batch that the other reviews received, but I've used these gloves for a good 2 months and they show no signs of wear or tear. I would comment that I own the white model and it's impossible to keep the white fabric looking as new as when I took them out of the box. I wash all my gloves by hand as well.

The padding on these gloves are not extremely thick, but I'm not wearing gloves for padding, but merely some extra protection if I fall. I usualy find gloves annoying, but these are thinner and the velcro strap on top is not noticeble on my wrists. So these get my thumbs up and I expect to get several seasons out of them.

Giordana FormaRed Carbon Custom Giordana Bib Shorts

Giordana FormaRed Carbon Custom Giordana Bib Shorts

Rating for this product: 5 July 11, 2012

I purchased these bib shorts in the Competitive Cyclist Racing Team Kit and find them to be extremely comfortable and fit me very well. I'm 6'3", 195 lbs with a 34" waist and went with XXL in the shorts. The XLs fit in the short, but the bib straps were too short. So I went with the XXL with about the same fit in the short, but longer bib straps. The fit for Giordana IMO is the same as Castelli.

I have taken these on 2 x 3+ hour rides and the chamois is extremely comfortable. I'm very picky about my chamois and can tell within 30 minutes if a short is going to work or not. I'd take these on century rides and not expect to have any problems at all. Everything stays in place the the design/construction is very nice. Made in Italy, the materials are very high quality and perform well. I highly recommend these bib shorts and put them in the rotation with my Capo Padrone and Castelli Free Aero Race bib shorts.

Awesomeness!

Capo Padrone Bib Shorts - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 2, 2012

I'm 6'3", 195 lbs w/ a 34" waist and the XL fits me perfectly. I normally wear XXL in Capo, but I've been finding the XL in the 2012 Capo lineup fits me perfectly. The first thing that stood out to me with these shorts is how light they are. But don't mistake light for not being durable. These are solidly constructed with strong stitching on the seams. The material is unlike any shorts I've seen before and once I tried them on, I really appreciated the technological advances by Capo. No silicon leg grippers, but these stay in place during all the rides I've taken. The straps are not your typical straps, as they are not mesh, but hold everything in place and I forgot about them once I was into my ride. The chamois in these is the best I've ever ridden and I wish they were in every pair of cycling shorts I have. I have a very sensitive taint and can tell within 5 minutes of my ride if the chamois is going to work or not - these definitely passed the test!

I took these on a real test last Saturday by riding 50 miles in 95 degree temperatures. First off, the cold black material definitely works! I wore the Padrone bibs with my white Capo Modeno jersey and the jersey actually felt warmer than the shorts! The black material did not heat up at all and kept me cool and dry! The carbon chamois kept everything down below dry as well. These shorts excelled at the 50 mile distance and would no doubt be great at 100 miles and beyond!

The inseam on the Padrones are longer than average, but I found this helped provide better compression and also since they are UPF rated, protects more of my legs against the sun.

Bottom line, these are the best bib shorts I own and highly recommend them. I also own high end bibs by Castelli, Panache, etc and the Padrones are top notch! I even compared the Padrones to the Capo Drago bib shorts and preferred the chamois of the Padrones.

Swiftwick Aspire Seven Sock

Swiftwick Aspire Seven Sock

Rating for this product: 5 June 20, 2012

Figured I'd try some Swiftwick socks after all the high praise they get from reviews and the write ups on their websites. I didn't realize the benefit good socks can have on your ride until I purchased these! I'm a tall dude and love the 7" cuff/tall socks. These are extremely comfortable, durable, and do what they are supposed to do: stay in place, provide compression, and not produce any friction. No goofy seams or poor design flaws that you notice while riding. My wife even has a pair and never gets excited about gear, but she really likes her pair of Swiftwick socks and says they are superior to anything she's tried before.

Not impressed

Capo Volta Bib Shorts

Capo Volta Bib Shorts

Rating for this product: 2 June 20, 2012

Purchased these on sale in hopes of a bib short to wear on century/all day rides. I was thoroughly impressed with the fabric, straps, and fit of the bib shorts, but the chamois was a MAJOR dissapointment. Yes, the chamois is one of the more dense chamois I've seen on the market, but the size/area of the pad is small. Why they did this, I don't know? The coverage of the chamois is smaller than I prefer as well. I prefer a chamois that extends down the inside of my thighs a bit to prevent chaffing, but the chamois on these would create chaffing on my inner thighs, based on chamois I've tried on other models.

These also have thin leg grippers bonded to the inside of the legs. I found they do their job of holding the legs in place, but tend to stick to your legs. Think of them as a piece of double sided tap. I found this to be annoying, uncomfortable, and causes an area of excessive sweating (IE does not breath well).

For the price of these bibs, I thought they would knock my socks off and be amazing, but I was quite dissapointed. I think if you ordered a size small or medium, the size of the chamois would be fine. But for the XL size I ordered, the pad looked quite tiny. I also own the Padrone bib short and prefer the chamois on this model (although the material and bib straps of the Volta are IMO nicer thanthe Padrone). If Capo put the Padrone chamois in the Volta, I would have kept the Volta bibs, but I opted to return them as they are not going to work out for me.

Capo 80's T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 18, 2012

Can never have enough t-shirts in my dresser, especially from Capo. I originally ordered in XL as I figured it was a european sized garment but when the XL arrived I was swimming in the shirt! So don't go off of sizing as if you were purchasing Capo cycling gear...I ended up getting the shirt in medium and it fits perfectly. The material is VERY soft and it's a very comfortable shirt to wear. The grey is not so much a solid gray as it is a grey heather, which looks very cool. Once you get the right size, you will surely be pleased with your purchase. I normally wear L in t-shirts and XL in everything else (6'3" 195 lbs 34" waste 36" inseam).

Perfectly designed knee warmers

Capo Dorato Roubaix Knee Warmer

Capo Dorato Roubaix Knee Warmer

Rating for this product: 4 June 18, 2012

Needed to pick up some knee warmers as my current pair was beyond it's service life. Big fan of Capo Cycling gear so I picked up the Dorato knee warmers in black. I'm pleased with the thickness of the roubaix fleece as it's not too thick to be too hot/bulky, but not too thin where no warmth is provided. I like the fact that there are grippers on the bottom and top of the knee warmers. Only 1 seam down the inside and simple "Capo" graphics at the bottom. They are fairly compressive, which means I don't foresee them sliding down or causing any issues while riding. Only negative is that when you stretch them over your stems, the white roubaix fabric shows through causing the black warmers to no appear as solid black, more like a black heather (if that makes any sense).

Capo Dorato Roubaix Hat

Rating for this product: 4 June 18, 2012

I like the look of the Dorato kit and opted for the Dorato Roubaix hat in black. When I first opened the package I though no way would this fit my skull, but the material is nice and stretchy to accommodate those like me with larger heads. The inside, except for the part that goes over your ears, is exposed roubaix fleece. I would have given 5 stars if the part that went over my ears was exposed fleece, but the "headband" portion is folded over for additional warmth.

Size down for a better fit

Capo Dorato Short Sleeve Jersey

Capo Dorato Short Sleeve Jersey

Rating for this product: 5 June 17, 2012

Picked up this jersey to match my Capo bib shorts and am very happy with my purchase. This is definitely as summer weight, warm weather jersey as it's quite thin. I normally wear XXL in Capo cycling clothing, but the XXL did not fit very tightly and I found the XL to provide the tight fit I was looking for. I can see if I wore the XXL how the pockets may fall down on my backside if I were carrying a lot of items, but since I sized down to an XL for a "race" type fit, I don't see any issues with packing the pockets full of any gear I may need to carry. I purchased the jersey in red and definitely like the shade of red, as well as the complimenting colors of the stripes. The material is extremely tight and silk-like. I like the cut of the sleeves as well as the lack of elastic on the cuff of the sleeves. Can't really find any faults with this jersey!

My new favorite bib shorts

Castelli Free Aero Race Team Bib Shorts

Rating for this product: 5 June 17, 2012

Butt to wallet - THANK YOU! I normally won't spend over $100 on bib shorts, but I'm doing several century rides this summer and needed a high quality pair for those long days in the saddle. The past few weeks I was doing some 80 mile training rides and after mile 50 the comfort of the chamois of my current bib shorts was expended and made for a very unpleasant ride. I've only taken the Progetto X2 chamois on 2 rides, one of 30 mile length with 12 miles of climbing, and then today on a 65 mile ride in 90 degree heat. The chamois was just as comfortable at mile 65 as it was at mile 1! Pretty amazing and well worth the money spent. I'm 6'3", 195 lbs with a 34" waist and XXL in Castelli is pretty much spot on for me. The look of the Free Aero Race Team version is pretty sweet and even though the leg grippers do not have silicon on the inside, they do not ride up at all - which is a great feature. The length of the bib straps is perfect and there's pretty much nothing negative I can say about these. Hopefully they last a very long time! I'm also going to try out the Capo Padrone and Volta bib shorts to see how they compare. But definitely the Progetto X2 chamois is the most comfortable chamois I've tried to date and highly recommend it.

Vittoria Latex Tube

Vittoria Latex Tube

Rating for this product: 5 June 13, 2012

After spending 6 months off the bike recovering from a herniated disc in my lower back, a friend recommended that I try latex tubes to soften up the ride. I thought he was crazy because there's no way a tube can make a difference in the ride quality, right? I was surely wrong because I could tell on my maiden voyage with the latex tubes the significant improvement! For one, the latex tubes feel as if they do a better job absorbing road vibrations. Secondly, and this could be my imagination, but there seemed to be a decrease in rolling resistance as well. Yes, it's true that you have to fill these up with air before every ride, which probably negates the benefit to my back, but overall this an inexpensive and great upgrade for your bike. I also rode with the same pair of tubes from August to December and did not get one flat (~1,500 miles). Bottom line is these are highly recommended and should be standard on everyone's bikes!

My "go to" winter riding jacket

Capo Dorato Thermal Jacket

Capo Dorato Thermal Jacket

Rating for this product: 5 May 21, 2012

At 6'3" and 195lbs with a 34" waist, I went with the XL for a tighter race fit. I'm finally convinced that tops, specifically jackets, fit much differently when you are standing around than when you are on the bike. I prefer my jackets to fit tightly without many folds or parts of the jacket sticking out only to cause noise when it flaps around.

I ordered this jacket in white and I have to say it's VERY nice looking in person. I got this jacket to wear on rides when it's 40-55 degrees outside, altough 55 may be on the high side. The nice thing about this jacket compared to the Modena, is that this jacket is fully windproof on the chest/front, as well as the sleeves. The inside material is a soft, fleece waffle like fabric. The 2 key features of this jacket I love are the higher collar and the thick, elastic sleeves. Both of which are great features to have on colder rides.

I'm sold on Capo style and quality and when you can get a deal from Realcyclist.com, you cannot go wrong whatsoever. Sure it's spring time right now and you may not want to spend your $$$ on a winter jacket, but once fall rolls around you'd be happy you made the purchase.

Best Winter Gloves IMO

Capo Piemonte LF Wind Gloves

Capo Piemonte LF Wind Gloves

Rating for this product: 5 May 21, 2012

After doing extensive research for the perfect winter glove to wear in 40 - 55 degree temps, I decided on the Capo Piemonte Wind Glove. Let me first say that one of my go-to brands for cycling apparrel that fit me well is Capo - I'm 6'3" and 195 lbs so I can expect XL tops and XXL bottoms from Capo to fit me spot on. From the bottom of the palm of my hand to the top of my middle finger is 7 and 3/4" in length and the XL gloves fit me perfectly. The gloves are very light in weight, but not in warmth, and are very high in construction quality. I find the wind and water resistance most appealing to my needs and the longer cuff with velcro strap allows the glove to be high enough up your wrist to no let cold air in. There's also adequate padding and material to wipe your nose. For the sale price and Realcyclist.com and free shipping that is very fast (2 days after order placed) - this is a deal not to be missed if you are looking for some great gloves for winter riding.

Capo Dorato Bib Short - Men's

Capo Dorato Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 21, 2012

I own and have used many different brands of bib shorts over the years and recently purchased the Dorato bib shorts in white. I've always been happy with bibs and the chamois made by Hincapie and other well known brands, but the quality of these Dorato bibs has surpased my expectations. Not everyone's body shapes are the same, but I'm 6'3" and 195 lbs and the XXL fit me perfectly. The material is extremely comfortable and I really like the leg band over grippers. I prefer the white shorts for hot, summer rides and the white material is NOT such that you can see through and see your junk (assuming you shave from the waist down). What impressed me the most is the chamois - it's very dense, yet has several "cells" of varying thickness that forms to your undercarriage quite well. Unlike some other Capo bib shorts I've tried from Realcyclist, the straps on the Dorato's are not too short and are very comfortable.

Hands down, Realcyclist.com is the best place online IMO to order bike gear. Placed the order online with free shipping and shorts arrived in 2 days! I anticapate these will be my go-to shorts for all day/century type riding.

Very high quality for the price

Capo Modena Bib Short - Men's

Capo Modena Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 10, 2012

I ended up ordering the full Modena kit with the black shorts and white jersey. The material of the bibs is nice and thin (not cheap, but high quality wicking material) and they offer a comfortable level of compression. The big straps are not as comfortable as those by Hincapie, but they are more comfortable than the Castelli bibs I own. The chamois seems just as thick as any other pads out there - so I would think it would be plenty comfortable on century rides, which I plan on using them on. Paired with the matching jersey, the look is pretty stellar, but not over the top like some racing kit with all kinds of advertisements on them. The sizing charts are pretty much spot on and these fit me perfectly. The only way they could get better is if Capo offered a white version with black stripes.

Capo Modena Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 10, 2012

Picked up this jersey in white to have a light colored jersey to wear on hot summer days. The style of the jersey is very simple and I find it attractive because you're not flaunting some random sponsors who are benefitting from your free advertising. The material and stitching is high quality and the fit is Euro/race. I like the full zipper feature and this is one of my "go to" jerseys for the majorify of my rides in the summer.

Comfy socks, but shoulda made them taller!

Capo Active 12 Compression Socks

Capo Active 12 Compression Socks

Rating for this product: 4 May 9, 2012

These socks are extremely comfortable and the material is top notch, but my only complaints are:
- the size range is too wide spread. I wear a size 12 shoe and ordered the L/XL. However, the heel shaped part of the sock comes up on the back of my heel and not the bottom. I foresee this as an area that will wear prematurely after many rides.
- These socks would look even more boss if they were several inches longer on the calf.

Regardless, they look great with my black and white Capo Modena kit.

Great Compression Tights!

Hincapie Sportswear R3 Performance Compression Tights

Hincapie Sportswear R3 Performance Compression Tights

Rating for this product: 5 May 9, 2012

I purchased these Hincapie Compression tights from Real Cyclist while they were on sale. I have benefitted tremendously from using compression socks, but have yet to find a pair of compression tights that fit me correctly. Finally, I have found the right pair for me! For my size, the large fit me perfectly. I'm 6'3" with a 34" waist and 34" inseam. The size chart on the Real Cyclist website does not match the size chart in the packaging for the tights. Additionally, the packaging for the tights provides thigh circumference recommendations. IE - Small = 28-30" waist, 18" thigh circ; Med = 30-32" waist, 19" thigh circa; Large = 32-34" waist, 20" thigh circ; and XL = 34-36" waist, 21" thigh.

I really like the material on these tights as it's stretchy, but provides a firm compression on my legs. The drawstring waist is very nice to make sure they don't slide down. They are VERY high quality and I look forward to using them quite often.

Best...socks....EVUH!

Swiftwick Performance Seven Socks

Swiftwick Performance Seven Socks

Rating for this product: 5 May 4, 2012

These are hands down the best socks I have ever used for cycling. The higher 7" socks provide very good compression and I swear I ride stronger when I ride in these socks. For some reason, my legs feel more fresh and faster when I have these on. The material is top notch and they just feel extremely comfortable. It's gotten to the point where I wash them after every ride so I can wear them again the next day. I wish they had more interesting colors/patterns, but for now I'm happy with the all black socks. You will be very happy with these socks!

Great rain/wind jacket!

Hincapie Sportswear Elemental Rain Jacket

Hincapie Sportswear Elemental Rain Jacket

Rating for this product: 5 May 4, 2012

After spending the last month researching rain/wind jackets, I honed in on the Hincapie Elemental jacket. I'm 6'3"/200 lbs and the XL fit is spot on. The jacket is not baggy and I do not foresee parts of the jacket "flapping in the wind" going down hill or in cross winds. I really like the high collar on this jacket and the sealed pocket on the back is a nice bonus. The material is of very high quality and will hold up very well to use and abuse. I plan on using this jacket for cooler fall/spring rides and to keep in my jersey pocket during those summer rides when you might get stuck out in a storm. This jacket is VERY lightweight and VERY compressible. I've been extremely happy with the many Hincapie cycling items I own and this jacket was a great addition. I think anyone would be happy with purchasing the Elemental jacket. I went with the black jacket with red stitching, with IMO looks pretty sweet.

Castelli Risvolto Winter Cap

Rating for this product: 5 May 4, 2012

This is a great accessory to have it you want to do any winter riding. Fleece lined, with ear flaps that fold up, along with a bill, this hat was exactly what I was looking for to get me through those long winter rides. This hat is also thin enough to fit under my helmet perfectly. I'm very happy with my purchase and the only negative was waiting this long!

Boss Jacket

Capo Modena Thermal Jacket - Men's

Capo Modena Thermal Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 4, 2012

I've been eyeballing this jacket for the last several years, but waited until it went on sale recently to pounce on the purchase. Essentially, I'm looking for a jacket to wear on rides in the temp range of 45-55 and this jacket will suit those needs. At 6'3" and 200 lbs, I purchased the XXL (this size in all Capo gear fits me perfectly) the jacket is form fitting and has very nice details such as the high fleece lined collar that won't let cold air down your neck (annoyance of mine) and long elastic cuffs to no let cold air up the sleeves. The front/chest part of the jacket is fully windproof, but the arms and back are made of a VERY soft outside material with a very thin fleece material on the inside. Even though the arms are not windproof, I do not see this as an issue related to warmth.

The 3 rear pockets are a very nice feature and as opposed to other thermal jackets on the market I've tried, this jacket is compressible to fit into a rear jersey if you get too hot during your ride. Quite honestly, I cannot find any negatives with this jacket and look forward to putting it to the test next fall/winter when the temps dip again.

Not made for me

SKINS Sport Long Tight - Men's

SKINS Sport Long Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 29, 2011

I am a proponent of compression based on what I have experienced with wearing CEP compression socks after long days in the saddle as well as long flights to Hawaii. So I figured the SKINS tights would be great to try as well. I am 6'3" 195 lbs with a 34" waist and ordered the long mediums. Tried them on And was bummed about the fit so I had to return them. First, the were too long by about 5" and scrunched up my legs. Second, the did not provide much compression which is likely due to my skinny legs. Third they were too tight around the waist. Even tho the mat'l is very nice, the proper fit is not for everyone. Give them a try, but for me I am going to just spend the extra money on custom compression tights to ensure a proper fit.

Serfas USL-1 Integrated USB Rechargeable Headlight

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2011

Purchased this light for my commuter bike and liked the feature that it can be charged via USB port. First thing that surprised me about this light when I opened the package was how small it was. It's about the size of my finger - quite compact. However, once I charged it and turned it on, I was impressed with how powerful it was. It will certainly do the job, and I almost feel that it's size is a theft deterent because someone walking by your locked bike may not even realize it's a light.

Fit wasn't for me

Capo Riserva Long Sleeve Jersey

Capo Riserva Long Sleeve Jersey

Rating for this product: 2 November 22, 2011

I picked up the Capo Riserva LS jersey to match my Riserva bib knickers. This was my first LS jersey - so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was dissapointed in the fit. The torso fit me perfectly with a nice, tight "race fit." However, the sleeves were what caused me to return this item. The sleeves were loose fitting and would certainly flap in the wind. The length of the sleeves was perfect, but the only way I can explain the fit of this item was that the torso fit like a jersey, but the sleeves fit like a jacket. Had the sleeves been tight fitting, I would have kept the item, but decided this wasn't for me and returned it. Other than the lack of fit, I thought the quality was adequate as well as the style.

SRAM Force Front Derailleur

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2011

I have the SRAM Red gruppo on my bike, short of the front derrailleur, where I opted for the SRAM Force. This is primarily due to the steel cage on the Force vs. the Ti cage on the Red. I've also used the Rival front derailleur and there is a noticibly smoother difference going to the Force. After 1,000 miles on the new front der, I have not had to adjust it once. Great component!

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 Stripe Kent Polo Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 Stripe Kent Polo Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2011

Let's face it, orange and brown is one, if not the, best color combination out there. The photos may not clearly show, but the lava stripe shirt is actually brown and orange. I travel quite often for work and work in the field. So I don't need to be dressed to the nines. So I try to find collared shirts that are not made out of cotton. Ideally every shirt I own would be an Icebreaker polo, but the cost of these shirts won't fit my wardrobe budget. Thus, when I found this shirt on sale I had to get it. Icebreaker and anything related to New Zealand is top notch in my book. Granted, Icebreaker clothing is now made in China, not NZ like my first Icebreaker shirt. But the NZ wool is far superior than anything Patagonia or Smart Wool put on the street. I know this shirt will withstand the test of time and I can wear it for a month straight and it will not smell. The quality and appearance of this shirt is 2nd to none.

Icebreaker SuperFine 150 Tech Lite Surf Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2011

Looking forward to the day I emigrate to New Zealand, but until then I'll have to get by with wearing NZ wool. This shirt fits true to size and looks sweet as well. I ordered the blue and the green and kept the blue. The green has sort of a silvery sheen to it, which is cool, but since green is my favorite color I decide to branch out and go with the blue. Love the weight of this shirt and having the country on my chest will keep the memories of my 6 week vacation to NZ fresh in my mind. I would't mess around with any other brands out there that make wool tops - as Icebreaker is the best. Heck, even Patagonia's wool tops are 20% polyester - so you know it will stink over time! I've put all my Icebreaker clothing to the test and everything has passed no problem and held up over countless years of abuse. If you can find Icebreaker on sale in your size, go for it you will not be disappointed.

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 U Turn Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 18, 2011

Kinda bummed the XL did not work out as a L would have fit fine, but alas they are out of Larges. Every other Icebreaker shirt I own is XL and fits well, but for some reason this shirt is looser fitting than I wanted. It's definitely an awesome shirt and if you want a great base layer, Icebreaker is the best. I am bummed to see these are now made in China, as the first Icebreaker shirt I purchased was in Auckland and it actually says "Made in New Zealand."

Rating for this product: 3 November 18, 2011

This is a great bag that I frequently used for commuting to work. My only complaints were that it did not function well as a laptop bag and was uncomfortable if you had odd shaped items inside such as boxes or anything with hard corners. The buckle is awesome for taking it off and putting it back on. I stopped using this bag however after I got a herniated disc in my lower back last spring and now I soley use a back pack instead of any type of shoulder bag.

Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Cycling Bib Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 18, 2011

These do the job - what else can I say? They allow me to go out and ride when it's down to freezing temps, although I would not wear these on a ride if it were more than 50 degrees out. They are windproof and breath well and provide good coverage - meaning I am 6'3" tall and they come down below my ankles. The bib straps are comfortable, but IMO the chamois could be more comfortable. Not that it's uncomfortable, but I prefer the chamois on my summer bib shorts made by Capo and Hincapie. Take these on my weekend road bike rides and weekday night mountain bike rides in Colorado.

SRAM Red Shifters

SRAM Red Shifters

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2011

Have been using SRAM Red now for over 2 seasons and have been nothing short of impressed. I came over to SRAM from Shimano and it took about 5 shifts to finally figure out the "DoubleTap" system. Once I got it down, I realized how genius of a system is truly is! I am a big guy (6'3" tall) with large hands and the hoods are comfortable for me. I really like having the internal cable routing system (there are 2 options) as it cleans up the look of my bike. I also think it's worth while to go spend the extra on the Red versus Force or Rival. The shifting on the Red is much, much smoother. One last note, I swapped out the stock cables with Yokozuna's systems and the improved smoothness is night and day better with the Yokozuna system.

Not a big fan of Superfeet. I tried them out in my normal shoes since I have high arches, but they didn't hold up for very long. If you really need insole support, you are better off spending the money on custom orthotics, because these insoles (if they fit you) will maybe last a season. I've also tried the Specialized insoles and really liked the support they offer, but again, end up replacing them with new ones every season as they "smash down."

Orca Compression Sock

Rating for this product: 1 November 17, 2011

Gave these a shot because I'm a firm believer in compression socks for recovery and travel. Wanted a back up pair to my CEP compression socks. I thought it was an optical illusion in the product photo that the sock seemed shorter than most other compression socks. When I tried them on, sure enough they came a little bit above my shin. I know the "tech specs" say the height is "calf," but I figured higher calf, not lower calf. Regardless, if you are a very short person these should work just fine, but these did not work for me.

Craft Cool Body Control Compression Socks

Craft Cool Body Control Compression Socks

Rating for this product: 3 November 13, 2011

These socks are decent, comfortable, and provide moderate compression, but are not the best out there. I have tried several different kinds of compression socks made by Craft, Defeet, and CEP and found the ones made by Craft to be OK. I use them for recovery and long flights and they seem to help. However, I feel for true compression socks, the fit needs to be based on the diameter of your calf, not your shoe size. Therefore, that's why these socks may not truly work for everyone.

Capo Riserva Roubaix Bib Knicker - Men's

Capo Riserva Roubaix Bib Knicker - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 10, 2011

After ordering the Capo Verona bib shorts and finding out the bib straps were uncomfortably short, I had just figured Capo wasn't for me. However, I needed a pair of warm knickers for fall riding and really liked the look of the Riserva knickers as well as the fact they featured Capo's Super Roubaix material. So I ordered them in XXL on Bonktown (I am 6'3" 195 lbs with a 34" waist) hoping they were sized differently than the Verona bib shorts. For reference, I wear XL in Peal Izumi, XL in Hincapie, and XXL in Castelli. I even own a Capo Jersey and Vest in XXL that fit perfectly.

I tried on the bibs and the fit was spot on, without any of the issues of the short bib straps like the Verona bibs shorts I tried. Furthermore, the Super Roubaix material is exactly what I was looking for as these knickers will be perfect for rides anywhere between 45 - 60 degrees. The chamois is very comfortable and overall the knickers are solidly constructed and look sweet as well. One could kick things up a notch by completing the Riserva kit with the jacket/vest/jersey, that's for sure! The only knock on the knickers and the only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is the position of the seam on the lower part of the knickers is right on my knee caps. Regardless, they are comfortable and I highly recommend ordering them - heck, they even say they are made in Italy, which adds even more style points!

Capo Verona Wind Vest

Capo Verona Wind Vest

Rating for this product: 5 October 16, 2011

Was looking for a new cycling vest and picked the Capo Verona Wind vest up in red on BT. I thought the red looked sweet in the photos on the website, but in person the vest exceeded my expectations! The Verona vest was exactly what I was looking for in regards to: 1) windproof/breathable front 2) mesh/breathable back 3) rear pockets 4) durable and easy to use zipper.

I took this out today on a 2 hour ride in 55 degree temps and it performed very well. Rode a mix of rollers and ended with a 20 minute climb and then decended back home. I did not overheat on the climb, nor did I need to unzip the vest to get some cool air on my chest. The vest did a great job shielding me on my decent back home. Top marks go to the quality of materials, construction, as well as the looks. I highly recommend this vest, especially at the BT price!

Very high quality!

Hincapie Sportswear Legado Collection Diablo Short Sleeve Jersey

Hincapie Sportswear Legado Collection Diablo Short Sleeve Jersey

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2011

I love my custom Hincapie Velocity kit made for my local bike shop and wanted to purchase another one with different colors/graphics. The kit I already own is black, but the technology of this material allows it to reflect the sun's rays so that you stay cool. I've ridden in the black top and black bottoms on 90+ degree days and I was very comfortable with no complaints whatsoever.

I went with the black Diablo jersey and matching bib shorts. I was hesitant at first to purchase the jersey, as I felt the branding was over the top. However, once I opened the jersey and tried it on, it was no longer an issue. Everything about this jersey is top notch. The material is very soft, has nice touches like mesh/venting material on the sides and back, and silicon grippers on the inside of the back to keep it in place. The zipper is very solid and functions easily when you want to access it during a ride.

My only suggestion is to make this kit in more colors. A predominantly white kit would be pretty sweet IMO.

This kit is a steal on Bonktown, but it's even worth the regular price as well.

Hincapie Sportswear Legado Collection Diablo Bib Shorts

Hincapie Sportswear Legado Collection Diablo Bib Shorts

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2011

I purchased a custom Hincapie Velocity kit made for my local bike shop last spring. This is by far my favorite kit and I have been riding in it all summer. The kit is so awesome I wanted to find another one, just in different colors. Fortunately, I found the exact same Hincapie kit on Bonktown, but it was referred to as the "Legado/Diablo Collection" (even tho the package it came in said "Velocity").

These have to be the most comfortable bibs I have ever owned! The material is very comfortable and of high quality, especially the straps. The chamois is amazingly comfortable for long days in the saddle. The graphics look very stellar in person as well. The fit is very true to what the sizing chart says. I'm 6'3", 195lbs and the XLs fit me perfectly.

I cannot imagine having a more comfortable bib short than this! Please make more in different colors!

What's up with the size on these?

Capo Verona Bib Short - Men's

Capo Verona Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 October 5, 2011

I ordered this on BT in XL and XXL, assuming the XL would be fine according to the size chart but wanted the next size up based on the other reviews. When I opened the package and checked out the bibs, I was definitely impressed with the quality of the material and chamois. However, the XL was WAAAY too small, and the XXL was even too small for me. The amount of compression in the shorts was tolerable, but the shoulder straps were far too short to be remotely comfortable. I was very bummed because I've not had any size issues with my other Capo clothing, but these Verona bibshorts are definitely odd fitting. If you can get these to fit you, you will surely be very happy with them, but these weren't for me. As a reference, I am 6'3" and 195 lbs with a 34" waist.

Great winter cycling jacket

Castelli Ganna Cycling Jacket - Men's

Castelli Ganna Cycling Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2010

I'm 6'3", 215lbs and ordered the XXL for half off at Dept of Goods. I already have the jersey and bib shorts in XXL and the XXL jacket fit perfectly. Thus far I have taken it out on 3 rides at 28 degrees, 40 degrees, and 50 degrees and the jacket performed well in this temperature range while riding on the flats as well as long, steep climbs/decents. It is definitely a warm, windproof jacket that I probably would not wear if it's over 60 degrees. I'm satisfied with the quality of the material and the micro fleece on the inside is a nice touch. Would like to see a higher collar. I would also like to note you will not be able to remove this jacket during a ride and stuff it into a back jersey pocket.

Pleasantly Surprised!

Castelli Thermoflex Arm Warmer

Castelli Thermoflex Arm Warmer

Rating for this product: 5 November 20, 2010

I added these to my order to qualify for free shipping and figured (A) they wouldn't fit and (B) the quality would not meet my satisfaction. Well, I was wrong in my assumptions and these are staying with! I'm 6'3"/215lbs and ordered the XL. As soon and I slid these on my arms I was amazed at how comfortable the insides were and the fit was perfect! I'm no string bean either...you'll find me at the gym throwing down 35/45lb dumbells when I'm pumping up my guns. So I was glad these arm wamers were not going to cut off my circulation. These are highly recommended.

Not see through/great shorts

Orbea World Champion Bib Short - Men's

Orbea World Champion Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 20, 2010

For $30 on bonktown I figured I'd give them a try. Of course I had the concern of seeing my bits and pieces through the shorts, but in all honesty, it's not an issue w/ these. Now granted, if you are a hairy sasquatch you may want to stay away. The material is very comfortable, as well as the chamois. I've worn these on 6 hour rides and they performed as well as any shorts I've shelled out over $100 for.

Orbea Continental Bib Short - Men's

Orbea Continental Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 20, 2010

I refuse to wear black shorts anymore due to the hot summer days here in Colorado. Ordered these shorts in XXL from Bonktown and couldn't be any happier for the price! The material feels great and the chamois has sufficient padding (teseted on a 70 mile ride w/o any issues). I highly recommend these bib shorts. You think you are getting crap for paying such a low price, but these are in my opinion better quality and more comfortable than the more expensive Pearl Izumi I used to buy.

Love these socks!

Castelli Quindici Socks

Castelli Quindici Socks

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2010

Been wearing these socks for long rides on cooler, fall Colorado days. I'm a firm beleiver that socks make a huge difference in making my ride comfortable. These socks stay in place, don't provide any friction, and keep my feet warm, but not too hot. I plan on buying several more pairs if I see them on sale again.

Castelli Podium Collection - Bormio Red Bibshort - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2010

At 6'3"/215lbs with a 36" waist, I went w/ the XXL in thise for $109 at bonktown. The fit is perfect and I'm very impressed with the fabric as well as the chamois. The location/fit of the shoulder straps is atypical of other bib shorts, but I like them. I would definitely get another pair of these bibs.

Castelli Podium Collection - Ganna Red Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 13, 2010

I'm 6'3"/215lbs and got the XXL. The jersey looks cool and is of decent quality. The sleeves do not have elastic on the ends, but is not an issue if you have some "guns" like me. I'd highly recommend this jersey to anyone if you find it on bonktown.
