Jeff, I'm almost exactly your size...I am 5'10" and 175 with a 41" chest...the medium in this jacket works fine unless you are considering a couple of layers and a denali fleece or the like. You would probably swim in the large-the snow sports products run somewhat larger especially the Sidewinders and stinger. If you buy from backcountry.com returns are no problem. These are great jackets!

Take a look at the Line Prophet 90's or 100's. You can't go wrong on them. Twin tips with wood core and metal. Hold on most everything fun everywhere!

I echo the call for the 179cm Prophets. They are light and quick. I am 170 lbs and love them in bumps, crud and powder. Any shorter you would feel like there was not enough ski.

I have a pair of the 179cm with freeride plus bindings mounted on the AT line. They perform as advertised plus some! Now I understand why the Prophet 100's were Gear of the Year last season. They cruise groomers like a GS ski(doesn't feel 100mm underfoot), bust through the chop, and float through powder. Whether east coast or west, these are a fabulous value. Why buy the Prophets when you can get the identical skis-sans the graphics for $100 less!
