Big Agnes Moon Hill Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Big Agnes Moon Hill Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 August 8, 2011

I've had this bag for a few years now. I've camped with it in Japan and the States. I've had it in the snow, rain, and everything in-between. Overall it's plush and cozy, but I can't help but say that this bag isn't my first choice when it comes to cold weather gear. The big minus for me is lack of insulation on the bottom. I know that air is the best insulator, but I gotta say, I get some chills through the floor when the outside temp approaches the 20 degree mark. I have a North Face 0 degree down bag, and I stay warmer in that because it has some insulation on the bottom. I am a wiggler at night, so maybe that has something to do with it? Overall it's a great bag, but if you want to go anywhere close to 0 degrees, I would go with a higher fill count bag and some insulation on the bottom.

Louis Garneau Full-Zip Merino Jersey - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Louis Garneau Full-Zip Merino Jersey - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Picked this up on SAC for thirty bones. Pretty good deal considering I was looking at the Ibex for 100. The fit is pretty true to form. Got a large, and I am 6'2" and 190 with a 31 inch inseam. The zipper feels a little beefy at the bottom, and the fabric, even though it says it's the same thread count/style as the ibex, doesn't feel quite as soft and supple against the skin. I've worn it on a couple early morning rides here in the SF Bay Area and it definitely wicks the moisture and keeps me warm. No rear pockets, but I don't go on but one long ride a week or two, so no big deal.

I like that it can double as a functional piece around town. Just make sure you don't have anything on too flashy underneath, as it shows through easily. Otherwise, have at it.

Overall, a pretty good deal if you can pick one up on SAC. Otherwise, I would spend a bit more and go with a brand that knows Merino.

A Little Heavy

I have a pair of the polarized versions with the VR28 lenses. Got them the other day and the lenses are great. I have a medium sized face and they wrap well, and block out most light. They look stylish and cool, but the only downer is the weight. The description says "lightweight metal frames" but these things are anything but lightweight. I have a pair of Oakley Bottlecaps, and those are lightweight. I really feel the weight of the nosepads of the Spike after a few hours. I am afraid these are going back because they are just too much weight for my nose.
