Osprey Packs Sirrus 36 Backpack - Women's - 2075-2310cu in

March 14, 2012

I tried on both, and while I liked the look of the Jade a lot better, I ended up buying the Sirrus. It was just more comfortable on my tall, narrow-shouldered frame. Among other things, the hip belt on the Jade was too big when the torso length was correct, and the Sirrus just seemed to sit better on me when weighted.

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Reversible Skirt - Women's

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Reversible Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 January 3, 2011

I like this skirt a lot, but you should know that it runs *really* small. I'm a size 6 usually and ended up in a large in this. The medium fit, but there wasn't as much crossover as I'd like. I haven't worn it much yet, but I figured the sizing help would be valuable.

The North Face Nuptse Bootie III - Women's

The North Face Nuptse Bootie III - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 25, 2010

I'd imagine these wouldn't be great in the rain, but in the snow, they are magnificent. A few weeks ago, I was in Chicago and walked from the Field Museum along the lake to the Hancock tower in the snow, and I was as toasty as could be. Just finished a 3 mile Christmas walk in the snow in Truckee — the roads were pretty icy, and I was the only one in our group to not slip and fall. They are truly like little sleeping bags for your feet. I recommend ordering 1/2 size up — I'm usually an 8.5, but the 9 fit me perfectly.

Patagonia Downtown Loft Down Parka - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 25, 2010

I just finished a late-night 3 mile walk in the snow in Truckee — and this coat was magnificent. It's gorgeous, flattering, and oh so warm. As for the many fit questions — I am 5'9", 140ish pounds, and 38-27-40. I bought a small and have no problem wearing it with a shirt and sweater beneath. It's nice and long with long sleeves, too! I tried a few North Face jackets, which I liked, but I absolutely adore that this jacket has no visible branding — I don't wear labels! Love love love this. As for the snaps, they are tight, but I have found that they loosen up a bit with use.

I'm the same height/weight as you, 38/27/40. I got a small, and it's perfect for me, but I usually only wear a shirt and sweater underneath it. I got the grey one, so I can't help you with the color question.

Burton AK 3L Hover Mitten - Men's

Burton AK 3L Hover Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 24, 2010

I love this mitten — I bought them for my boyfriend a few years back. Any day he's not out riding with me, I wear them. So I figured I'd get myself a pair. They're as great as always, but I should add that the photo of the True Black pair on this site is incorrect. The True Black are not solid — they are the same grid pattern as shown in Trench, but they are grey.

Burton AK 2L LZ Down Jacket - Men's

January 2, 2010

If it's anything like the Burton AK Flare jacket (women's) I'd have to say no. I bought it for the combo of Gore-Tex and down as well, but I have overall been disappointed.

Airblaster Ninja Suit - Women's

Airblaster Ninja Suit - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2010

I bought one of the women's 2009 ninja suits, and I wore it once. Once. The rainbow back zipper was really uncomfortable and had no stretch. If I had bought it from Backcountry, I probably would have sent it back, but alas I did not. The 2010 ninja suits have been redesigned with a wasitband zipper, and they are superior in every way. I bought myself another one (I *LOVE* this one) and I also bought them for my boyfriend and his brother. 10 days in Tahoe, and they both wore them on the slopes every single day. They run SMALL, so definitely size up. I'm 5'9", 140 lbs, a small/medium in just about everything else, but I ended up in a large.

The rainbow zipper has been redesigned to be a waistband zipper. It is a MILLION times easier to use now, and more comfy, too.

Backcountry.com Luft 800 Down Sweater - Women's

January 2, 2010

I'm 5'9", 140 lbs, 32DD. I bought a medium. The sleeves are perfect, and it is cut to be a bit longer in the back, so it's not super-short. I think you'd probably be okay with a small if you don't want to wear much under it.

Burton AK 2L Flare Down Jacket - Women's - 09/10

Burton AK 2L Flare Down Jacket - Women's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 3 January 2, 2010

I bought this jacket because I wanted a down jacket that would work with the link-zip interface to my 2009 Burton AK 2L Summit pants. The jacket keeps me very dry, as expected, and it links to my pants beautifully. That said, there are a few things that I don't love about it... I wish there were more pockets. I am a fan of the goggle pocket in the chest and the map pocket on the arm. This jacket has neither. Also, I don't love the neck closure. It's too tall to sit under my chin when zipped but not quite tall enough to cover my mouth. It just sort of covers my chin (which is weird), so I end up having to use a neckwarmer on cold days to protect my face. Also, it really could be a bit warmer. I haven't found a jacket that is better suited to my needs, so I guess I'm relatively happy with it, but it's definitely not as perfect as I had hoped.

Salomon Optima Snowboard Boot - Women's

Salomon Optima Snowboard Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 13, 2009

After going through 4 pairs of boots in 2 seasons, I finally found the Optima and have worn nothing else since. The 2008-2009 model shown here is my fourth pair, and they do not disappoint.

As for sizing, I wear an 8.5 or 9 shoe and bought a 25 boot. If you buy them, I recommend taking them to a shop to have the liner heat molded. It makes them even more comfortable.

great pant, with a few issues

Burton AK 2L Summit Vent Pant - Women's - 08/09

Burton AK 2L Summit Vent Pant - Women's - 08/09

Rating for this product: 4 April 13, 2009

These pants are mostly great, but with a few issues.

First, the great:
The color. I got the chartreuse, and I get TONS of compliments on them. My boyfriend also loves that they make me very easy to spot on the slopes.
The fit. I am 5'9", 140 lbs, wear 6/8 pants, and the medium is a nice fit they are even long enough, which is hard to find. I always wear something under them because I tend to get cold easily and can just open the vents if I'm too warm.
The styling. The 2 front zippered pockets looks really cool, and these pants are quite flattering.
The waterproofing. They are guaranteed to be waterproof, and they are. I have worn them in storms, in powder, and in slush, and I have always remained dry.
The venting. I can open them up and stay quite cool on warm spring days.
The extras. The left pocket has a small internal velcro pocket that is the perfect size for stashing some cash, a credit card, and driver's license. The right pocket has an attached glove hook.

Then, the issues:
The waist adjustment. The specs on this site are incorrect. These pants do not have belt loops, and the only source of adjustment is a pull tab on the waist connector.
The waist connector. There is some black webbing that leads to a plastic "belt" connector. This does not always stay fastened.
The connectors. These pants feature a zipper along the back which allows you to connect the zipper of a Burton jacket. This is a really solid interface. However, if you don't have a jacket with the zipper, there are no side connectors to attach a more conventional snow skirt to. I got really frustrated when the Burton AK Baker jacket did not feature this zipper, even though Burton claims all of their AK jackets do.

Overall, I love these pants even though they're not perfect. Although I have several other pairs of snowboarding pants, I have worn nothing but these since they arrived. As long as the issues mentioned above are things you can live with, I recommend them.

Orage Anna Down Jacket - Women's

March 26, 2009

I am 5'9, 140 lbs, and in clothes I tend to straddle small and medium — depends on the cut. However, in Burton outerwear, I am a pretty solid medium. I figured I'd try a medium in this, too, and it is a bit big. I think a small would fit better, so I would consider going down 1/2 - 1 size.
