first time with the pack

first time with the pack

Ruffwear Singletrak Pack

October 2, 2011

This was the first time my dog wore his pack - both water bottles were pretty full, and he did really well with it. He loves to pounce and hunt in this park, and he did that, plus running around at full speed with the pack on.

The bottles don't hold a ton of water with the medium size, but I don't mind because I just bring a little extra (for Utah mid-summers). I think if they held anymore, the pack wouldn't be as sleek or comfortable when he's running.

I wasn't sure how it would fit (he's part husky and his chest is very narrow), but it turned out just fine.

great pics underwater and on dry land

Pentax Optio WG-1 Kit Digital Camera

Rating for this product: 5 April 22, 2012

I love this camera so far - I've had it for a few months and have taken video and pictures underwater which I think came out really well. I tumbled around in some very rough waves and sand quite a bit with it and it came through without a scratch. I'm also really happy with the dry-land pictures it takes. I really love not having to worry about the camera getting splashed or dirty (just makes it easy to bring it along). So far, no problems.

durable toy that floats and bounces

Ruffwear Gourdo Dog Toy

Ruffwear Gourdo Dog Toy

Rating for this product: 4 April 18, 2012

Whenever I'd bring this toy to the dogpark, all the other dogs would fight over it - it floats, which makes it a fun fetching toy for the water, and it bounces on concrete. It also has a hole on one end that you can stick treats into when you're at home. My dog wasn't interested in playing with it (he only really likes one kind of pull-toy), so I ended up giving it to a very grateful dog owner at the park whose dog was in love with it. I'd definitely recommend it for people whose dogs love retrieving.

Rating for this product: 5 April 18, 2012

I love the handle on this leash - my dog still pulls every once in a while, and the cushiony handle really saves my hand. The rope is thick and durable (have had the leash for over a year now), and the blue color reminds me of my first climbing rope :). It has seen a lot of water and grime and seems to repel most of that stuff. I bought the large.

Ruffwear Mt. Bachelor Pad Dog Bed

Rating for this product: 5 April 18, 2012

This is perfect for my dog - my dog is a 55lb husky mix and I got the large. The rubber mat in the back of my Subaru gets really hot in the summer, and this bed fits perfectly on top of it so he's more comfortable in the car. It's also easy to pull it out and use it while we camp or picnic. Seems really durable so far (I'm pretty sure it will outlast the cheap bed he has in the house). Haven't washed it yet, but I'm stoked that it's machine-washable.

Rating for this product: 4 April 18, 2012

I like this top - it runs big (I got the royal/heather in an xs and it's still very roomy) but it also hangs really well and doesn't look huge - the cut and how it drapes somehow diminishes the roominess so it ends up being super comfy and also not boxy.

Kelty Gunnison 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 June 6, 2011

this tent was great for us - two people and a good-sized dog. it fit our *cough* queen-sized blowup mattress (car camping should be comfortable, right??), and we loved the gear loft - we stuck a small lantern up there for reading at night, plus stuff like glasses and sunglasses. the mesh kept things plenty cool even though we were camping in the desert, and when the wind picked up, the vents helped keep the tent from becoming an expensive sky decoration.

SealLine Urban Backpack

SealLine Urban Backpack

Rating for this product: 5 February 10, 2011

I used to use a regular backpack to carry my wet swim stuff to and from the pool, but everything would just leak through and drip down my legs and all over my car (bummer in the winter). This backpack is awesome because I just throw all that wet stuff in it and it never leaks. I know it's probably mostly used to keep the things inside dry from rain, but it's also good the other way around. It's really comfortable to wear when I walk to the gym, and it dries out quickly. Small size easily fits a swim pull buoy, towel, shampoo, conditioner, suit, and lotion, with room to spare.

Lifetime Theola Wong Coin Trick Sweater Tank - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 5, 2010

I really liked the fit (close fit but not skin-tight) and the style of this. The fabric was really soft and comfortable, but I returned it because the sweater-like knit just made me worried that the shirt wouldn't last for long. Maybe it was just the one I got, but it looked like it was already getting stretched out. I also liked the long-ish length (I ordered the xs), so it would have been great if the fabric didn't seem like it might unravel soon.

Aire Outfitter II Tandem Inflatable Kayak

Rating for this product: 4 November 5, 2010

We took this out on a lake in southern Utah, which is not really what it's made for, but we still had a blast. Steering was a challenge, but I imagine that was due to my too-short paddle and to the fact that it's designed more for running rivers. It's durable, wide, and stable, and it's easy to just fold it up and stick it in the back of my Outback.

NRS Aquapac Compact Camera Case

NRS Aquapac Compact Camera Case

Rating for this product: 5 August 6, 2010

I have a small point-and-shoot with a small zoom lens (the lens comes out when you turn on the camera), so I wasn't sure if this would work with my camera or not, but there's enough room in the bag that the lens can come out and it works just fine.
The underwater pictures came out the best - I had the bag submerged in the water in the ocean, and the camera is totally fine. I will say that the pictures I took out of the water (when I was kayaking around) were a bit washed-out, probably because it was hot and humid and that made the bag a bit ... hot, I guess. But for underwater, which is what I wanted it for, I think this works really well.

I really like the fit of this hoody - got an xs, and it's slim through the torso but still long enough in the torso and arms (I'm about 5'6 and most xs hoodies have torsos and arms that are too short).
The material on the inside isn't super-fluffy-fuzzy-soft like some sweatshirts, but that's ok.

So yeah, many dresses have cool straps but no built-in support, which means you either go bra-less and feel a little too 'is it cold in here??' or you have to spoil the straps with added bra straps. This dress has built-in support (mind you, it's very light support - cami-style, but still a step in the very-right direction). Really comfy fabric, too.

The one thing I remember about my preschool teacher is that she sang the 'I'm being swallowed by a boa-constrictor' song before nap time, and that's what I would think of every time I used to get in my old mummy bag. I love this bag because it's super roomy. I got two of them and my boyfriend and I zip them together for camping, which is awesome. We were a bit chilly in early summer in the desert (below 50F at night), so we got two fleece blankets and those worked well with the bags. I imagine mid-summer just the bags alone will be perfect.

Roxy Athletix Pace Setter Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 11, 2010

These are rad. Got them in black, in a small. They sit low on my hips which is a must, and I'm stoked on the antimicrobial stuff because man, workout shorts can get stinky. There's basically a liner inner short and then the outer short, and I like how it makes that layered look. I was kinda used to silky running-short material - this isn't quite as lightweight as that. But it's nice to wear shorts that feel a bit more stylie than the typical marathon-mania running shorts.

Sanuk Scribble Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 17, 2010

I really like the shoes, and I was stoked to get some b/c my boyfriend loves his. But the sizing isn't perfect because I'm a 7 1/2 US, and my feet are pretty narrow. The size 7 was a bit too small, and the 8 is a bit too big. I kept the 8 b/c I just wear them with socks in the winter, and because the shoes worked great with the ankle-brace that I had to wear for a while after surgery. But without socks, my heels definitely slide out.

The North Face Snow Sneaker - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 16, 2009

I love the way the shoe looks, and I like that the tread is super-grippy but not really thick on the outside (as in, it still looks like a casual sneaker). I've been wearing these in the snow and ice here in Utah, and my socks have stayed totally dry (and I haven't landed flat on my face on the ice either). That's a nice change from the last few winters where I've worn sneakers and dealt with soggy socks. The cuff is a bit puffy, which I was afraid would feel odd, but it feels fine.

Lolë Emerald Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 11, 2009

My favorite thing about this is that it's UPF 50, but it doesn't look like your typical boxy, 20-pockets sun-protection shirt. It doesn't have vents or anything, so it does get pretty hot if you're hiking in the summer (I live in Utah and wear it on hikes in June and over a tank top while belaying for sport climbing). But, I think the no-vents is the price you pay for a shirt that's stylish and sun-protective. I do wish there had been a color other than white to choose from.

Mission Playground Sophie Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 20, 2009

This top is really well made - you can tell they used really high-quality merino wool (it's so incredibly soft). I could have used an xs, but they didn't have any, so I settled for a s, so it's great for wearing over a tank-top or short-sleeve shirt. Not sure whether it's the xs-vs-s factor or what, but it's not very fitted, so it tends to look sweatshirt-y on me. I like the neckline (isn't itchy for me), but I cut off the tie thingies (not my style). It's pricey, but I'm excited to have a casual-type shirt that won't get stinky on non-laundry vacations and hiking trips.

686 Vitals Perth Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 May 1, 2009

I did like the pattern, and the colors, but I was disappointed by the fit. I got the S, and perhaps I just needed an XS, but the pockets in front made it seem boxy - the chest was fine, but then because of the pockets and the seam above them, it looked like a tent/tarp. The sleeve length was fine, though, so an XS probably would have had too short sleeves, plus that size wasn't offered. I loved the big hood and was tempted to live with the boxy front fit, but in the end, it was too much money for not being just right. Soft interior, though, and nice mid- to heavy-weight softshell fabric.

i love this top - it's great to have a lightweight merino tank with wide enough shoulder straps to cover bra straps and with a sexy scoop-neck. means you can wear it for casual stuff as well as climbing and working out. I usually wear an xs, and ordered the same for this shirt - I will say the armholes are right up there in the pits a bit - they work for me, but if you're between an xs and a s, the armholes might be too tight if you get an xs.

great shirt - very lightweight and soft. it's fitted, but definitely not skin-tight - basically a perfect fit for casual wear (i ordered an xs, which is usually the size that is a close fit for me). front V-neck is flattering but still high enough to cover your bra, and the empire-style band under the um, boobs part doesn't give that pregnancy-look that some empire-waist shirts do.

Cappel Windsor Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 3, 2008

I'm stoked on this jacket. The sweet things are: nice fit, sleek style, big hood - snow can be blowing sideways and you just pull up the hood and are in your own cozy world, the arms and torso are long enough even though I'm 5'6 and ordered an xs. The thing to be aware of is that this jacket's down is Super low profile (warm, but Definitely not anything like 500-fill down). I wouldn't mind if they had put a little bit more down in the jacket because I tend to get really cold in the winter, but I still love the jacket, and it is still warmer than my synthetic-insulated jacket.

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2008

Great top - I ordered the xs (5'6, 103lb) and it's perfect. A slim fit, but definitely room to move (not any of that spandexy, Saran-Wrappy feel). It's great for bouldering, hiking, and just hanging out. The merino wool is super soft (not itchy at all), and it really does not hold odors, which is basically a miracle after wearing polyester shirts that hang on to sweaty smells like it's nobody's business. I never use the side pocket, so I could definitely do without it, but it's fine - I still love the top.

prAna Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 17, 2008

I never thought I would ever buy convertible pants (never been a fan of the mid-leg zipper look), but I really do like these. I think the fact that they are more like capris when you zip off the lower legs helps with the zipper-leg thing (the zipper hem is lower and less obvious when you have the full pant zipped together). I've climbed in them a bit - the material is just stretchy enough, and it's nice to have the bottoms to zip on when it gets chilly. They also have a nice "cargo" style, and the pockets in back and the low rise (on me, anyway) prevent the mom-butt look.

CamelBak Sugar Hydration Pack - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2008

I've used this both for resort skiing and hiking in the summer, and it's great. When I'm hiking, I can fit my Cannon Rebel XT SLR camera and a lightweight rain jacket inside the main compartment, which really surprised me because it seems pretty small. For skiing, this pack is super compact and light. The best thing, though, is that you don't get the feeling that the shoulder straps are set too far apart (like in unisex/men's packs). The pack feels great on, and the shoulder straps are curved so they're not smooshing into the sides of your chest. Water has frozen in this pack in the winter, but you sort of have to expect that when the weather is super cold.

This is definitely thicker than Icebreakers Pace Top, which I also have (that one is lightweight where as this is midweight). The wool feeling is slightly more noticeable, but it doesn't feel itchy to me, and I think this top is great. I wear it as a skiing base layer or under a T-shirt - it's slim-fit, and the xs worked great for me. There is none of the stink after sweating, and it breathes noticeably better than synthetic base layers. Merino wool is pretty much the best for sweaty endeavors.

I like this bottle - I ordered the 0.7L and the size of the bottle is slightly bigger (taller) than a Sigg 1L bottle I have (because of the insulation of this Laken bottle). So, that was a surprise, but not a bad one - I got used to it, and I really love the bottle. Rating for this product: 4 July 14, 2008

I ordered an XS (what I wear in prAna and most other tops) and it fits well - a slightly tighter fit than, say, the prAna bliss top, but that could also be because it's a different fabric. And speaking of the fabric, the inside of this shirt is super soft - feels fuzzy, but not omg-too-hot-for-summer fuzzy. The built-in bra feels secure - a bit of a uni-boob look, but perhaps that's because I'm between a 32 and 34 B.

Rating for this product: 5 July 14, 2008

I've never ordered sunglasses off of the internet before (without trying them on in a store first), but I took a chance on these and they are perfect (for me, anyway). They are medium-sized as far as bigness - not totally Hollywood-huge, but not slim either. They have a great curve to them which protects your eyes from the sides, and the lens really does feel light even though it's glass (and the polarization is ridiculously clear). I have a fairly small head (for a girl) and the width is perfect - I was afraid to order big sunglasses because I thought they would just fall off, but the width on these is just right, and they don't slip down because they have built-in nose pads. I think they would be too tight for a lot of guy's heads, though.

Rating for this product: 4 April 10, 2008

I wear this tank climbing - it's great because you can sweat in it and wear it a few times in a row due to the fact that it's merino wool so it doesn't get stinky. It's soft, and the built-in bra is supportive enough for me (34B) as far as climbing goes (not enough support for running, but climbing/hiking is ok). The yellow piping and straps are quite a bit brighter in real life than in these pictures, but it'll probably fade a bit. I gave it four stars because the built-in support isn't quite as supportive as some other tanks I have, but I still love the shirt.

So far i have worn them while it's snowing and they stayed dry. The knee pads are OK - they seem to be set a bit high, though. The front pockets are lined with cozy fabric. yum.

G3 Targa Ascent S/S Telemark Ski Binding

G3 Targa Ascent S/S Telemark Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 28, 2008

I got these bindings and mounted them on a pair of fat Seth Pistols - they've been great. As far as touring, the free pivot is definitely rad - I've toured in regular G3 Roxy bindings with no pivot, and these are definitely a huge improvement. Also, the entire heel really does easily flip up to become a climbing bar - I'm not sure if that will cause more wear than if it were just a climbing wire, but I do know that trying to get the wires up and down on my old Roxy bindings while touring was really hard, took forever, and ended up being a real pain in the arse. So, big improvement there as well. I didn't get any snow build-up under the foot yet. Very secure when locked down.

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe - Women's

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2008

I got these snowshoes and went out hiking with a friend of mine, who was wearing some tube-frame snowshoes. He was slip-sliding backwards and sideways and all over the place, while I was just breezing right along. The blade-like frame on these is really incredible. Plus, they are really lightweight.

Nixon Rocker Watch - Men's

Nixon Rocker Watch - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 11, 2008

I bought this watch for my boyfriend for Christmas - he's totally stoked on it. It's super wide, and he likes the fact that you can actually tell the time, but it doesn't look like a sport watch either.

Osprey Packs Atmos 50 Pack - 2800-3200 cu in

Osprey Packs Atmos 50 Pack - 2800-3200 cu in

Rating for this product: 4 July 17, 2007

This pack's shoulder straps and hip-belt are definitely some of the most comfortable I've come across. The springy-mesh action for the back panel looked pretty odd to me at first, but I quickly realized how great it is - hiking around in 100-degree heat without getting a full-on back sweat was great. The clip-close front pocket works well for stashing climbing shoes between routes, and front side pockets are great for snacks. The only things that really bother me are the hip-belt pockets - they stick out and bother my arms. No worries, though - a quick snip-snip and all is well.

Five Ten Siren Lace-Up Climbing Shoe - Women's

Five Ten Siren Lace-Up Climbing Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2007

These climbing shoes are great. They are advanced without feeling like those totally hardcore shoes where your arch is pulled into this uncomfortable "C" shape. I've worn them climbing in the gym and outside, and the sole is nice and grippy.

Nixon The Rig Watch - Women's

Nixon The Rig Watch - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 15, 2006

I like the weight of this watch - it feels and looks very substantial. I will say the band width is not perfect, because I have a small wrist. You can take out links in the band, but I seem to be right in the middle of too tight and a bit loose. I really like the simple face, though, and I don't mind a looser fit, so I'm stoked.
