DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag

February 16, 2010

Josh, this is a good bag. It is dimensionally smaller than the concourse double, a little less padded, and one less pocket. However, it is half the price. I just used mine for the first time this weekend for a trip to Salt Lake City and I was able to fit 50lbs. of gear into it (One pair skis, 2 pair poles, pants, jacket, boots, gloves...) and it held up perfectly. Two skis would be tough to fit with boots, but it could be done.
Does this help?

I love the gummy frames, and they are a perfect fit for my RED helmet. The "wings" give you extra flexibility in case your helmet is a little too narrow.
The ventilation on these things is amazing. They just survived a snowy, cold weekend in the Wasatch without a problem.
I would recommend these to anyone.

This is a quality product that will sustain a heavy impact if caught in an avalanche. Very intuitive, just takes some understanding of flux. Pretty pricey for what it actually is though. I think they game up the fact that it is a life safety system and that it is a must have for BC adventurers...

You know a skin works well when you are heading straight up a 45 deg slope, fresh snow, and you can lean back and take a breather without planting your poles... Zero slippage, highly recommend.

Well padded, good gear stashing capability (helmet, boots, jacket, pants, gloves, two pairs of poles and ONE pair of skis). You have got to get creative if you are going to try to fit gear AND two pairs of skis in here...

These are sick.
Pros: Simple, durable, providing lift to get on the edge of your fat-waister stick.
Con: Release lever for A/T to standard function has sharp edges that are unfriendly to frozen fingers.

Very poor materials

Volkl Gotama Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 2 March 13, 2009

Floaty as hell in the powder, hold a crazy hard edge on the groomers.
Pros: Stiff, sturdy at high speeds (60mph+).
No shock or slap in crud conditions.
Cons: Top sheet is easily delaminated and chunked with normal skiing wear. Disappointed that after 4 days on the snow they look almost a year old. To soft of a topsheet. Poor base material.

UPDATE: After skiing these for a year now, I have decided to downgrade my rating... The shape and stiffness are incredible, no doubt. However the construction is crappy. The topsheet delams with the slightest of scratches, and the bases seem to be made of butter. The lightest of rock encounters has taken ENORMOUS strips of my base away, all the way to the core. Not recommended for any type of off piste, non groomer skiing.
They just simply cannot handle aggressive tree skiing where rock scraping is inevitable.
Sorry Volkl, but you better step up your materials if you want me back...
