Voile Splitboard Climbing Skins

Voile Splitboard Climbing Skins

Rating for this product: 4 November 15, 2011

These used to be the only option for splitboard skins and I haven't tried the G3s. When you slap these things together for descent be cautious going glue on glue at first. If you have time put the skin savers on, 'cause these suckers are sticky! I had to get a buddy help me pull them apart the first time. Now that they have some miles on on them they aren't bad at all, which is good cause putting skin savers on all the time is a pain. Maybe now that splitting is becoming more popular we'll see more brands and Voile will bring their price down.

Patagonia Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 15, 2011

If you need a lightweight layer that packs down small, this jacket is sweet. Cozy comfort in a yurt or snow-cave after a long day touring. Shove it in your day pack for added warmth during breaks. Large hood fits well over helmet, perfect for that shaded belay. It is down and lightweight material, so wear with care. I've worn it in light snow without any problems, but obviously avoid getting this thing wet. It has its own stash pocket, but I find it easier to just stuff this thing in my pack.

Black Diamond QuickDraw Guide Probe 300

Black Diamond QuickDraw Guide Probe 300

Rating for this product: 5 November 15, 2011

Deploys fast, super rugged and locking mechanism is sweet. Might as well buy the longest probe you can, because who knows. Measurement markings make this probe super handy when doing pit profiles. Sling this puppy out and lock it up fast, no more lookin' like a chump during drills.

Black Diamond Expedition Ski Pole

Black Diamond Expedition Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 5 November 15, 2011

These are money if you need a pole that is highly adjustable and breaks down small. These are a must have for splitboarding, easily fit into or strap to a pack. I use mine ski touring and when out on the split. The tab adjustments are where it's at, I upgraded from a twistable Leki pole.

Marmot Never Summer Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 November 15, 2011

I found this bag to meet my needs. I've used it in snow caves and mega-mids ski touring the San Juans in February. However, I do use a liner and could be considered a warm sleeper. I think this bag is prime if you need a four season piece of gear for shorter trips. It does seem to gather condensation, creating wet down paranoia. The new shell option may be better? The wife likes to use this one during colder fall backpacks when I'll use a 15 degree bag. I've had some stitching come undone, but overall It's a great deal.

One of the best deals around

Marmot Trestles 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Spirafil

Marmot Trestles 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Spirafil

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2010

Solid all around bag! I've had mine for going on three years and probably have spent close to 150 nights in this bag. It's a bit bulky, but thats expected from synthetic. I've woke up in this bag on the side of El Dorado in the North Cascades soaking wet after the mid blew away in the middle of the night and managed to stay warm. Climbing, river trips, backpacking, car camping this bag has done it all with me. Best hundred dollars you'll ever spend on gear!

Black Diamond Half Dome Helmet

Black Diamond Half Dome Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 November 29, 2009

I've had two of these helmets now (lost one). It's an affordable no frills helmet that you can depend on. The chin strap can be awkward to adjust as another reviewer stated, but I find that to be of minimal hassle.

Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack - 5100-5500cu in

November 27, 2009

It has a sleeve for hydration systems. I find it awkward and lay my drom bag across the top of what I have packed and secure it with the internal load strap.

Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack - 5100-5500cu in

Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack - 5100-5500cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 27, 2009

This pack is definitely one of the best available in the "expedition" size range. I've used mine for a variety of missions from canyoneering in the SW to mountaineering in the NW. The Argon has some plush straps and handles large loads well (70+lbs.). While it can haul a lot of gear it can take a strange shape and it took me some time to learn how to load this pack best (kinda squatty in shape). The pack seems to handle best with more moderate loads. On the down side, the strap buckles are company specific meaning you need to contact osprey for replacements. The suspension system allows for some terrible pack squeaks and osprey acknowledges this as a common problem (I fixed mine with some WD-40). Loops on the bottom of the pack work well for an A frame carry with skis and the rear mesh pocket holds an avy shovel well. Overall, this pack is deluxe! If you need to haul around some serious weight and/or bulk you should give this product some serious thought.

Garmont Adrenalin Alpine Touring Ski Boot - Men's

Garmont Adrenalin Alpine Touring Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 5, 2009

Comfy boots. Seems to be several shells for the Adrenalin however. There is the freeride shell that fits a bit lower on the ankle and has more flex, and there is the Endorphin shell (pictured) that rides a little higher and is a wee bit stiffer. I've tried both types on and they fit a bit differently so purchase wisely.

Metolius Safe Tech All-Around Harness

Metolius Safe Tech All-Around Harness

Rating for this product: 5 November 3, 2009

I've used this harness for sport, multi-pitch, and alpine climbs. It's a solid no frills product that is also quite comfy. Some a hole stole a pack full of gear from me and this harness was in it. Just replaced it with the deluxe model, so I must be happy with the design! Has a larger fit than the BD harnesses I've worn... I wear a small in metolius and a med. in BD.
