I bought these gloves with the primary intention of skiing in them. They are very warm. I have used these gloves in the 0-60degF range and they were adequate. Anything lower than that will be needing a different glove even in a fairly athletic situation. The glove is very good at wicking sweat away from my hand which improves its ability to keep you warm all day.
My major problem is that they wear fairly quickly. With in the first 4 days of skiing i had torn the seam on the inside of the index finger, thumb, and middle finger. I use scott poles with rubber grips. I expect that the rubber accelerated the wear, but i find the speed of wear unacceptable.North face has offered to repair the glove, but i just taped it up. I suggest that anyone who does pole plant get a leather glove.
