Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

March 13, 2011

Yeap, there is a splotch on the black version as well. It's not as obvious as the orange version, though. It's a lighter grey in colour and is hard to see unless you are looking for it. I didn't even notice it the first few times I wore the hoodie.

DAKINE Sequence Backpack w/Camera Block - 2000cu in

January 1, 2011

Yes, you can. You can fit it between the back panel of the bag and the camera block. It isn't easy to get the laptop out when the block is there, but it is possible.

Good while they last

YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon

YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon

Rating for this product: 3 December 28, 2010

I walk to and from work, it's 15 km round trip. In the winter, I am on hardpack snow and ice most of that trip and I had a pair of these last winter. They lasted about two months, and then the coils started to unravel. When they were working, they worked great.

So great

Simple Tuba Shoe - Men's

Simple Tuba Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 13, 2010

I love these shoes. Being Vegan, finding footwear that is both animal friendly and comfortable is often a challenge. Montrail has taken care of my running and hiking needs, but often times you just want a comfortable pair of shoes to lounge around in. These fit the bill. I went a half size larger than I normally wear. The organic cotton is quite soft, and the sole is grippy and is so far wearing well. It IS a tire after all. I figure it will keep tread for longer than the rest of the shoe will last.

Good, but not excellent

Icebreaker GT200 Chase 1/4-Zip Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker GT200 Chase 1/4-Zip Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 5, 2010

I've long been a fan of IceBreaker and picked this up on Steep and Cheap. It is made in China, and while it does fit and feel pretty good, there is a noticeable difference between it and the older IceBreaker gear I own. The stitching on this is a little rougher, and it isn't as well fitted in the waist as my other stuff. Still great at a discount, but perhaps not quite worth the full price.

Great for hiking and cycling

SmartWool Adrenaline Ultra Light Mini Sock

SmartWool Adrenaline Ultra Light Mini Sock

Rating for this product: 5 April 4, 2010

I have about ten pair of these now. I wear them for both warm weather hiking, and also for cycling. They completely lack smell even after a day in a pair of boots or cycling shoes, and provide quite a bit of support for my arches. With literally hundreds of miles on them, they are showing no signs of holes in the heel or foot-ball area. Two thumbs up.

Amazing

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 4, 2010

First off, I can't believe I scored this jacket for $30 on Steep and Cheap. Incredible deal. It blocks wind exceptionally well, and I have worn it in torrential rain for up to an hour without anything soaking through. My only complaint is that it does not have a hood, but that's not what this jacket is for. If I really need a hood, I will pull out my Precip from my pack and put it on over this. A chest pocket would have also been nice, too, but I don't miss it. The under arm pit zips do a great job.

Excellent, but don't lose the top piece

Rating for this product: 4 April 3, 2010

This is an excellent stove. As others have mentioned, it is quite loud, but with a screen it can boil water very quickly. It is also reasonably light, although I have an MSR Dragonfly for my super light hikes.

there is a top deflector piece that just sort of "sits" on top of the stove. It is easy to remove, and easy to lose. the stove will not light correctly without it so be sure to hang onto it.

Best hiking mug ever!

Snow Peak Titanium Double Wall Cup 450

Snow Peak Titanium Double Wall Cup 450

Rating for this product: 5 April 1, 2010

This mug is fantastic. The handles fold up, the weight is killer. I like the fact that the pivot for the folding handle is stiff enough that the mug won't sway from side to side when you drink out of it, nor will they rattle around. I just hang this off the bottom of my pack with a small beener or stash it in my cook pot.

Arc'teryx Operative Short-Sleeve Tee - Men's

Arc'teryx Operative Short-Sleeve Tee - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 1, 2010

I picked up this shirt at a deep discount here on BC, and it's comfortable enough for lounging around the house in the summer. It is not an athletic cut, by any means. Normally, small Arc gear fits me quite comfortably, mostly in a form fitting way. If this shirt was available in an XS size, I probably would have bought that instead. The fabric is quite soft, but it doesn't wick or breathe as well as my merino gear.

Wear like Iron

Patagonia Shop Pant - Men's

Patagonia Shop Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 31, 2010

These pants are incredibly tough. I walk and hike a lot, to the point where my other hiking pants have holes worn right through the inside cuffs at the bottom of my pant legs, from friction. Not with these. They can be a little stiff out of the wash, and I need to find a thinner belt to wear with them because the hip strap from my pack chafes a bit, but the are super. Very warm in the winter, and do an excellent job at blocking wind. With a pair of long underwear, I've worn these outside for a few hours at a time in temperatures to -20.

Osprey Packs Atmos 50 Backpack - 2800-3200cu in

Rating for this product: 4 March 31, 2010

This pack is my go-to pack for weekend trips, especially when I have to carry a lot of cooking gear. It has many pockets, and fits great. The suspension system curves away from your back leaving a space between your back and the pack to allow air to circulate, making it great for high humidity environments. I am subtracting one star because I think all packs should have an integrated rain cover. I also have the Osprey rain cover which works well, but my Deuter Futura pack has one built in. It's a simple thing.

Patagonia Bucket Hat

Patagonia Bucket Hat

Rating for this product: 4 March 30, 2010

love this hat! My go-to travel hat. Only complaint is that the brim is a bit floppy when it gets wet, but that's not really the point of it. keeps the sun out of your eyes, and the heat off of your head.

Excellent Pack

Deuter Futura Pro 42 Backpack - 2550cu in

Deuter Futura Pro 42 Backpack - 2550cu in

Rating for this product: 4 March 30, 2010

This is my daily pack for my commute to work. The built-in rain cover is a fantastic feature, and I even use the inner hydration sleeve to stash my 15" Macbook pro. After almost a year of daily use, the only sign of any wear is a small hole in the bottom of the inner pack pocket where the frame has worn a hole. Not a big deal. I can cram enough gear in this pack to do me for two or three weeks when I travel, and that includes a lot of photo gear.

Icebreaker Icebreaker GT180 Chase Crewe - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker Icebreaker GT180 Chase Crewe - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 30, 2010

I wore this to Morocco and other parts of North Africa and was comfortable with it, even in 50C weather. The shirt breathes incredibly well, isn't itchy, and keeps the sun off of your arms, which is especially nice when even SPF50 isn't going to help you prevent a nasty sunburn. Recommended.

Montrail Namche Mid Hiking Shoe - Men's

Montrail Namche Mid Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 21, 2008

Bought a pair of these and actually broke them in on the Fundy Footpath, a challenging mud-slog of a hike that features almost 50 km of hiking and 11,000 feet of elevation changes over roots, rocks, stream crossings, ravines, and off-camber trail. They aren't water proof, but they dry quickly, and not a single blister or foot problem along the whole hike. Highly recommended.

Montrail Hardrock Trail Running Shoe - Mens

Montrail Hardrock Trail Running Shoe - Mens

Rating for this product: 5 April 24, 2008

I bought a pair of these, sight unseen, for a trip to the UK. I literally received them, unboxed them, and boarded my flight. With no break in, I was walking between 20 and 35 miles a day in all sorts of terrain (from urban settings to rocky hiking trails) with a 30 lb pack on my back. Two weeks later, not a single blister, and my feet are very comfy. Highly recommended. Just make sure you order a half a size larger than you normally wear.

Patagonia Rain Shadow Pant - Men's

Patagonia Rain Shadow Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 20, 2006

I've been very impressed with these so far. I've worn them in the rain, and they work well, but they also work great over a pair of Smartwool bottoms to keep the biting east Canada wind from getting through. They weigh practically nothing, too.

Patagonia Wind Tracker Top - Men's

Patagonia Wind Tracker Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2006

I love my Wind Tracker. I wear it running and skiing with nothing but a thin layer of merino under it, in weather well below freezing. Never a problem. Really stretchy in the shoulders, and no bunching anywhere.
