Pleasantly Surprised

Pearl Izumi Barrier Lite Shoe Covers

Pearl Izumi Barrier Lite Shoe Covers

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2013

I was a bit apprehensive after reading reviews for other brands like Castelli, etc stating that that they do not work well or show tear after second or third use. But I gave it a short and am glad I did.
It's surprising how easily this slips on and off, and I am not as worried about it tearing as the quality seems to be what I had hoped for.
I have not ridden it in the rain, but on some damp roads and on chilly days these covers have protected my white shoes from road grits and shielded my toes from the wind. I don't plan on riding in the rain, but if I ever get caught in a storm wearing these I would probably expect some moisture in my shoes, but for 99% of why I bought them, I think they are working rather well.

First item from Louis Garneau that doesn't work for me

Louis Garneau C-Cycling Socks

Louis Garneau C-Cycling Socks

Rating for this product: 2 December 29, 2012

Let me start by stating that Louis Garneau has long been my brand of choice for most of my cycling apparel. So, I had no reservations when buying these socks. I just received these yesterday and tried them on briefly. Here are my first impressions:
- The material is very comfortable and feels like high quality
- The Small is still too loose for providing any type of compression (as compared to other ones from Capo or Oakley that I've also bought from RC).
- The front seams fall right below the tip of my toes, which is very uncomfortable. I could not imagine wearing that on a ride.

I would rather an exchange rather than a refund, but I'm not sure if that is the norm for LG socks. Too bad because the look and feel of the material would have made it one of my favorites.

Shimano Ultegra FD-6700 Front Derailleur

July 19, 2012

Moving my 6600 groupset from one bike to another. The FD clamp size is different so doesn't fit. Seems to have better luck finding 6700 front derailleur price and availability. Will that work with my 6600 double shifters?

Castelli Podium Collection - Bormio Vest - Men's

Castelli Podium Collection - Bormio Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

I've always been reluctant to buy Castelli gear due to their sizing issue. After chatting with the online person I went for it and have been very pleased, I love the soft shell, nice racer cut, and no flapping in the wind. I'm 5'6" with 37.5" chest and bought a Medium.

I won't buy 2 of the same thing, but now I'm looking for another that will meet the standard I have set with this jacket. If you're reading this, and are looking for a great vest, don't hesitate. You won't regret it.
