Work Great!

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 23, 2011

My wife & I each have one of these packs, hers a small (She is 5'6" 120lbs), mine a medium (5'10" 165lbs). Fit and feel is excellent! We use them for snowshoeing & cool/cold weather hiking, & they work great! We have been using them every weekend for two seasons now with no problems. Pack is very snow (wet) resistant, but after several hours in the rain, soak completely thru. Pack also carries extra weight very well.

Decent Mid-Weight Glove

686 Belle Insulated Glove - Women's

686 Belle Insulated Glove - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 30, 2010

Nice gloves, seem well constructed. I have been trying to find my wife a warmer glove and these didn't seem any heavier than her other mid-weight glove. However, the fit was good. She usually wears a medium and the small fit just perfect. In the end, we returned them.

Better than goretex

Mountain Hardwear Typhon Glove

Mountain Hardwear Typhon Glove

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2010

Outdry breathes way better than goretex. Bought a large, usually wear a large. Fit was very snug at first, perfect after a couple of outings. I use for cold weather hiking & snowshoeing. Construction seems solid. Agree with JMH, not a super cold weather glove. Only question is gauntlet drawstring, not as smooth as others I have used, but works.

Started Great, But......

Outdoor Research Arete Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 13, 2009

UPDATE: I really like the gauntlet drawstring closing & opening. Very quick & easy. Fit is good. I bought a large, & usually wear a large. I used them most every weekend this winter & loved them & was very impressed with them, until a seam came undone/failed on one of the fingers. Returned to BC & traded for a pair of Mtn Hrdwr Typhon gloves. I will report on them this next winter.

Super Sweet Pants

Stoic Tour Softshell Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 7, 2009

My husband [Eric] bought me these sweet pants for Christmas...but I got to demo them out early. Since we love to hike, he got these because he wanted me to be warm while we were out. I generally wear a size 4 long pant, and went with the medium, and there is room to spare. The length is even perfect, which I generally have a hard time finding pants that are long enough. Our first trip out was a good test....10 degrees on top of the ridge (but I'm convinced it was colder than that with the wind chill factor). I wore some nylons underneath just because I wasn't sure what to expect. Could have worn tights, but I was still okay. Best features of these pants are the stretchability and durability. I feel like Stretch Girl. They are not restrictive in the least, they are soooo comfy. Plus, since Eric likes to cross country it through brush and crap, these pants breezed right through all the prickly, pokey stuff with no problems. And the dirt just brushes right off. The bottom of the pants also come with this gnarly brush guard. I folded them over my boots and tied them with a shoelace so that snow wouldn't get in my boots and it worked wonderfully. Very, very SWEET pants. However, they only get four stars because they left off the two front hand pockets. What were they thinkin????

Comfy Pant

Patagonia Alpine Guide Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 6, 2009

I got these pants for late season hiking & snowshoeing. I am 5'10" 165, & normaly wear a 30 by 34. I went with the 32 waist cuz the 30's were too tight & too short. Overall fit is good. I wish the length were an inch longer, but they'll be ok, barely. The only other dislike is the funky low crotch?? The material is medium/light weight, & will require a baselayer when cool/cold out. First time out hiking, it was in the 10 to 20 deg range. I had on a light baselayer, & should have had a medium on. I was ok on the climb, a little cool on the descent. Love the pockets & the zippers! I also tried on the Stoic "Tour" softshell pant. Great fit, but I thought they might be a litle too warm. They probably will be good also, as this is what I bought for my wife, & she LOVES them!! Except for the missing front pockets.?? (womens)
UPDATE: Pants are holding up well going into their third season of use. They have tie loops on the leg openings that I use a nylon shoelace to tie under each boot to keep the pants from riding up while trekking thru deep snow and brush.
