Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Octane Full-Zip Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Octane Full-Zip Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 30, 2011

Overall I love this jersey. It instantly became the favorite in my rotation. It's super light, wicks sweat and mostly provides the form fit as advertised. My one beef: the waist is too loose. There is an elastic band with silicone grippers, but it isn't tight enough to hold it in place. As I usually carry stuff in the pockets, it feels like it's sagging when I stand up. Not a huge deal, but it detracts from what would otherwise be a perfect jersey. (For reference, I'm 5-11, about 160 with a 32 inch waist and wear a medium.)

most comfortable bibs ever

Louis Garneau Mondo Bib Short - Men's

Louis Garneau Mondo Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2011

The only problem is I want to wear them every ride. They offer excellent compression and a perfect pad - thick but supple, the kind you never really notice. My only issue/concern is that after about a dozen rides and a couple of hand-washings I noticed the edge of the white thigh band is starting to look a little frayed. You have to look very close to notice it, but it has me a little worried about long-term wear. Overall I love these bibs. As for fit, I'm 5-11/158 and the mediums are on the snug side. Disregard the fit chart that says small fits a 32-inch waist.

Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Sock - Men's

Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 May 11, 2011

I've always liked PI stuff, especially their higher-end socks. They're comfy and last forever. These not so much. The first pair had problems. The power band looked like terry-cloth - like it was woven inside out - and there were lots of stray threads hanging off. Realcyclist shipped me out a replacement, which were much better, though they are showing some signs of unravelling after just a few rides.

top drawer bibs, cosmetic flaws

Castelli Sorpasso Bib Knickers

Castelli Sorpasso Bib Knickers

Rating for this product: 4 May 11, 2011

These are super-comfortable tights - just the right thickness and texture to be comfy in 40 - 60 degree weather. They keep out the wind, provide plenty of support, and the pad is just right - thick enough for long rides but supple enough to conform. My only beef (thus the four stars) is with the stick-on rubberized lettering. It started peeling off after just a few rides. It doesn't affect the utility, but you have to wonder why a company like Castelli would put its name in bold letters on a high-end garment and not make it look good.

Louis Garneau Pro Carbon ETS 2 Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Louis Garneau Pro Carbon ETS 2 Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 30, 2011

Fabric is gossamer-thin and presumably great in hot weather, but the fit is far from pro. For perspective, I'm 5-11/160 and ordered a medium. I had plenty of room, and the zipper bulged out at the navel, as if it was intended to cover a beer gut. Zipper pucker happens, but this seemed wrong for a jersey in this price range. Returned it for a PI octane.

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Softshell Jacket - Men's

January 3, 2010

Alchemy vs. Firsturn. At the page for the Marmot Gravity I asked for comparisons to MHW Alchemy. Now I'm curious if anyone can compare this to Cloudveil's Firsturn. Main differences, so far as I can tell: hood and fit - CV sounds as if it's longer and looser. I need a windproof/water resistant jacket for x-country ski, snowshoeing and cold-weather hiking.

Marmot Gravity Softshell Jacket - Men's

Gravity vs Alchemy
Can anyone compare the Marmot Gravity to MHW Alchemy? They weigh and cost about the same. Primary uses would be cold weather (Wisconsin) hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing. Breathability and wind resistance are key.
