Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad

May 13, 2012

I have been out my new x-lite for two nights, mid-20's on Pike's Peak, and low 30's another night up in the mountains. Amazingly warm for the weight. Although I anticipated lot's of noise based on what it "seemed" it would be when squeezing it in hand, it was not noisy at all when laying on it. Surely the increased air pressure from laying on it removes the "crinkling" noise almost altogether! I was pleasantly surprised, surpassed my expectation for comfort, heat, and noise.

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Mummy

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Mummy

Rating for this product: 5 July 23, 2010

The older I get, the more important "comfort" has become in my backpacking endeavors. Packs small and light. Might be a slight inconvenience to blow up, but really doesn't take all that long (5min. or less...), however well worth the solid night's sleep. Used it on the CDT, well above tree-line, with lumps, bumps and rocks everywhere... they all disappeared under the pad. It will be tough to ever go back to other pads, simply not worth the few ounces less. Tried the non-insulated pad, but found the cold came through the pad all too readily, thus moved up to the insulated. Seems durable, and comes with patch kit. This pad got my beloved spouse out on the trail with me, as she simply could not tolerate the aches and pains of sleeping on the ground any longer.

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Insulated Jacket - Women's

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 18, 2009

Bought this for my wife as a present. Listed sizes are way undersized. Had to return it the day it arrived as it didn't fit. Be sure to buy at least one size larger that you would assume. Didn't read the reviews to that end, as it was on sale.

Certainly recommended, but not for Ultra-light purists

Great pack. It is a bit heavy for it's size, by no means an "ultralight" (my 75L pack weighs 47oz.) but certainly does the job well at carrying a full load. Used it on early season overnight trips and was able to carry all the gear, plus carry the sleeping pad and tent via the external straps. Wasn't sure I'd like the roll-top, but now wouldn't go back to zippers as the roll-top is lighter (slightly), quick to access, more convenient, more leak resistant, and functionally near fail-proof.

Loved the pack... unfortunately, so did some critter in the middle of the night on my last Fall pack trip! Chewed right through the zippers and all, rendering it basically unrepairable. Replaced it with the same pack! Love the pockets, accessibility, size, comfort (comfort is what sold me, to me well worth the extra pound or so in weight compared with "ultralight" packs). Only noticed that it seemed to make a little more noise on the hike than some other packs, could simply be my not cinching it all up at tight, but seems to be something more to do with the pivoting hip belt harness system??? Wish the hip belt pockets were just a tad bit larger... not much fits in them. Would definitely recommend the pack despite very minor criticisms. Just trying to be honest in assessment.

Just got this bag and put it to use right away. 12,500ft, and freezing temps... ice on tent in the morning! Purposely slept only in shorts and shirt to "test" the bag: worked great. Sealed up well around the face, and had more than adequate "wiggle room" for the rest of my restless body.
