K2 Pettitor Ski

August 27, 2012

The only thing they won't perform well in are deep icy moguls. It's not that you CAN'T ski moguls with these boards, they just don't perform as optimal as a skinnier ski.

They will however blow through crud, chop, new moguls.

DON'T WASH IT!!

Patagonia Nano Puff Hooded Insulated Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Nano Puff Hooded Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 18, 2011

Great insulator, don't wash it! I used a drop of detergent(literally a drop of outdoor gear detergent made and worked on many other jackets) and washed and the water repellency has gone away. The jacket initially repelled a light mist/snow, but now just soaks H2O in. The jacket still keeps me warm and stylish, and I would probably buy again but not wash it, maybe just soak in warm water to release the eventual stank.
Great Jacket, minus the mistake/durability

Burton Ak Select Pant - Men's - 09/10

Burton Ak Select Pant - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 5 March 6, 2010

I am a skier and i was skeptical about burton soft goods..... but no more, u guys are equal! May not be as warm or nice as a patagucci r1 pant, but work almost just as well..... and look a lot better.
I use underneath a shell pant while skiing/riding and it has worked great from -10 to 45.... not to mention at the end of the day you look damn good in these pants.
They are baggier fit, so they look good when around house, town, etc. although if you want slim fit order smaller size
p.s: pockets are semi-useful if you ever want to use a zipper pocket on your long underwear or are using for casual/apres wear

K2 Disorderly Alpine Ski

February 17, 2010

anyone know if these skis are measured like k2's big mountain skis? i.e: a 179 hellbent is as long as a 185 salomon, etc.
Is the measurement from tip to tail (surface area) or actual height?
just wondering if 169 or 179 ski's/looks bigger or smaller than a typical length

Black Diamond Ascension Nylon Custom STS Skins

February 16, 2010

I have a pair of 120 width skins that i've used on hellbents a ton, with no complaints. you can tour in any ski, just easier on some, but if you only have one ski, then tour on it!
1) remember that you will want your edges hanging wider than the skin, or you will have a tough time on sunbaked ice slopes.
2) the skin just has to be as wide as say 5mm(maybe 10?) less than waist so 125 would work perfect for you.
3) dont worry about cutting slits or sewing your skins, that sounds pretty tough.... when you get the skins you will find out how much of a pain any cutting is, much less special slits.
4) 125mm is such a wide skin.. traction will not be an issue, only stamina
Again. you will want your edges showing, not covered by the skin so you can hold an edge on icy steep sideways slope.

Mammut Revelation Climbing Rope - 9.2mm

Mammut Revelation Climbing Rope - 9.2mm

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2010

have had this rope for a couple of years now and had to go through a few ropes before finally finding and loving this one. I primarily sport climb in boulder canyon, and thunderstorms creep in daily without notice. This rope has held up really well to freak hailstorms, downpours, falls, rough rock, and still has more life after two years than any other rope i have had. It takes a long time to break in, so dont worry about the stiffness or tangling... i think this is primarily due to superdry coating, although this is not nearly as bad as other ropes i've had.......
Rope felt really great out of bag, was able to actually climb and not have to deal with knots everytime i opened up ropbag!
Super lightweight, and might as well get the 70m or longer because its so light, opens up a few more options!

Great shell pants!

Armada Plasma Pant - Men's

Armada Plasma Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 7, 2010

Make sure you have a proper "heavierish" long underwear and these pants are legit. They are super waterproof and seams are sealed welded etc, as expected for 3L shell type pant. I'M IMPRESSED WITH ARMADA QUALITY. first time armada softgoods user and i'm stoked!
not the sturdiest or most durable fabric, but will hold up to a lot and has out in CO backcountry.
Very breathable, quite possibly the most comfortable my balls have ever been while hiking at 12,000+ ft!
Sizes run a bit larger like snowboard clothing, I'm always a M and the M is very steezy(baggy) on me, functions well, but depending on your preferences keep this in mind.
Not quite bombshell, lets say bulletproof! great pants!

Smith Variant Brim Skullcandy Audio Helmet

February 7, 2010

just plug in the normal plug to the iphone, i've had this helmet with iphone for two years, you'll be able to mute audio and control volume, but not take calls, you would need extra adapter and would not be able to use smith mic. You can hear iphone ringing through headphones, so stop take gloves off and anser if you really need to, like talking through speaker phone... works well. i think best bet is getting shuffle/nano for music, iphone gets moisture and your screwed, happened to me once in two years at snowbird. up to you, how risky are you?

Perfect Everywhere!

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2010

These skis are perfect for just about everything (nipple deep I use my hellbents, but these would work just fine). First thing i noticed is how much these skis like speed! they perform very well on high speed groomers, and straight-lining chop on the cirque! Very nimble maneuvering through early season stumps, rocks, moguls, etc. *****Base is made of great material and is extremely durable along with the edges, K2 has me sold on this feature, have not blown any edges in last 3 years of punishing different K2 sticks. Seth has the right idea on mounting, after all he helped design it!!!! ..... thanks for another pair dreams on my feet!
bottom line: perfect combo of rocker/camber/carve for just about anything any mountain throws at you! a "one-ski-quiver" type ski
P.S.: and it looks sooooooooooooo goood!!!!!

NOT AS GOOD AS LAST YEARS

Spyder Godfather Pant - Men's

Spyder Godfather Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 16, 2010

I had the godfather pants from a year ago and they were much warmer and better fabric. Seams are not taped well or something, pants feel awfully drafty in sub-freezing temps. Fabric is relatively fragile and feels like it will tear soon. Stiching looks like the kids that sewed these pants in china were drunk! (p.s. made in china, but everything is..) Have had problems with spyder buttons breaking and these pants are no exception, two buttons already ripped off when i was trying them on for first time! haha. There are a few pros: nifty snaps for cuff so pants dont drag (fabric would fall apart!) Sunlit yellow is cool vibrant color, a lot better looking than picture suggests (think cool yellow, almost creamy) These are being sent back soon, and i will not be fooled into buying spyder products anytime soon, quality is just pathetic!

Bombproof and Swagger

Salomon Sideways 3L Jacket - Men's

Salomon Sideways 3L Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2010

I ski about 150 days a year(now in CO, UT last few), and tear through poorly made jackets 2-3 times a year until i find the right one. This jacket is the right one!!! Fabric is super burly and I will not be tearing it on nasty branches or anything else, this is very important for me. 3L membrane is super waterproof, and pretty breathable, although not the most breathable jacket due to the thickness of fabric. I wear a midweight fleece and light poly top........ everyday of the winter, until spring and i'll loose the fleece, and this is plenty warm, was up at vail 2 weeks ago in -15 w/o wind chill and I was cozy, just wish my pants were same fabric! Seems are fully taped and I'm sure this jacket would work well in NW rain/snow/cement. About the fit: I'm about 5-9 155, and always a medium in everything except for odd fitting companies, this jacket is perfect in medium, although the arms feel restricting around armpits when sitting down, perfect when out on mountain.

Cons: Media pocket is near worthless, i'd expect from other non ski/ride companies, but cmon salomon? Sealed zippers will probably be demise of jacket like so many before, dunno why they all don't use YKK like arcteryx. HOOD IS NOT HELMET COMPATABLE, little tight/small over helmet.

Pros: BOMBPROOF fabric/seals, will not let snow/moisture in! BC return policy. I'm a big rockies fan and purple is perfect! Jacket LOOKS really good, and performs better!

Maxim Glider 9.9mm Rope

Maxim Glider 9.9mm Rope

Rating for this product: 4 August 10, 2007

took a long time to break in, looks like new after tons of routs, the problem is that it went from looking and feeling new, to almost breaking really quick. it fray's really weird, make sure to send it back and have backcountry give you a new one when it wears out.
