DC Sharkey Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 13, 2012

The actual retail of this shirt is $25.00, says so on the tag. Dogfunk has this for $43.95 ($30.77 with a 30% markdown). I didn't realize this til after I ordered it. Dogfunk was really cool about it though. I contacted them and they were able to credit me the difference.

Great layering piece otherwise... Super comfy non-cotton material, lightweight, and great fit if you grab it in the right size.

Nothing makes me more frustrated on the hill than when you have to struggle with a glove because the inner liner has come apart from the outer liner. Anyone know if the inner liner on this glove is sewed to the outer liner, thus avoiding the dreaded "liner pull-out"?

Burton Restricted Pistol Pant - Men's

Burton Restricted Pistol Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2011

these slim pants have style for days. legs that are nicely tailored in at the knees and widen out with extra large ghetto zip slits for that skinny boot leg look. i got one pair in black cord and another in blue denim to mix and match, and so that one pair doesn't get completely thrashed during the season. one thing i gotta say is that the cords do feel better and more burly while the denims feel a little thinner. the mesh lining could be a little more comfy (for instance, volcom's mesh lining is way softer and thicker). but overall, i'm digging the slim style of these pants; perfect for park lappin'. how about a little more variety in the colors next season though, burton?

i was lucky enough to grab a clear chrome lens (more expensive than the regular clear lens) for my eg2's while they were still available... complements my silver chrome lens really well. i use the clear chrome lens (clear but still mirrored) for flat light and the silver chrome lens (very mirrored) for bluebird days. if you can find a clear chrome lens, i'd recommend that.

yeah sometimes the "real life" pics don't look as good as the stock pics... if you go to korea's or japan's google sites (google.kr, google.jp) and do a search of "burton pistol pant" you'll find some real life pictures. i find that shops in korea and japan do a good job of showing how outerwear will actually look on people (for instance, i found this - http://www.bestsnowboard.co.kr/shop/shopdetail.html?branduid=49737 and the denims definitely look slim). if i was you, i would just purchase the pants and if you don't like them, return them... dogfunk has an excellent return program.

Bakoda McIver Driver Tool

Bakoda McIver Driver Tool

Rating for this product: 4 December 25, 2009

best tool i've ever owned... would get five stars except that it doesn't have a ratchet, the tape measure is a little too short for all stances except children's stances, and the hinge from the plastic flap broke... otherwise this thing does it all... it once disarmed a bomb for me then helped me make a flapjack breakfast for four, honest... a bit heavy to carry around, so be aware of its solid metal construction... again, the plastic flap seems out of place and a little flimsy, but it will still keep you happy until that fateful day when it cracks off... (note: it certainly does work as a one hitter, so light up... tobacco of course, right coppers?)

Burton Lightweight Boxer - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 5 December 25, 2009

i'm not one to wear long underwear when riding... i like a little breathability and a little air flowing between my pants and my skin, so i opt for a lightweight combo of just snowboard-specific socks, a pair of non-cotton basketball shorts, and these boxers from the beginning of the season to the end under my snowboard pants... and they keep me nice and comfy throughout... plus when you've been too lazy during the week to launder your normal boxers, you can just reach into your winter/snowboard drawer, grab these bad boys, and keep your junk happy all day.

i loves me some Cappel models

Cappel Wallingford Vented Pant - Men's

Cappel Wallingford Vented Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 24, 2009

i was a fan of Cappel back in the day before their strong comeback a few years ago... any company who sticks with a marketing plan of hot half naked chicks wearing oversized snowboarding gear is okay with me... of course i know that Cappel is part of Ride, which is part of K2, etc etc blah blah blah... so i'm really supporting old asian business men rather than hot young models... but that aside, these are great pants... great straight leg, slightly bootcut fit, with all the bells and whistles... perhaps a few too many bells and whistles actually, as all the metal dangling from these pants can make you feel a little like a christmas tree at times... the material is top notch and very "street" and all the snowboard specific features are there to keep you happy... i hear the fit on the 2010 models are better with wider bottom cuffs and bigger cuff slits that let you get more bell-bottomy for a more modern look (cuffs over the highbacks as opposed to stuffed inside for those who care for such things)... so if you can spend $300 on pants go for it... otherwise, these at $140ish will do nicely, sucka.

Holden Maplethorpe Down Jacket - Men's

Holden Maplethorpe Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 24, 2009

it's $82.49 right now... umm yeah, that's $82.49 for a $330 down jacket... seriously, grab this while you can... good deal on a superior quality down jacket... and who knows how long it's going to stay at this price because dogfunk likes to change prices like a santa monica hooker... (disclaimer: i've never solicited a hooker in santa monica, nor am i familiar with the price changing habits of santa monica hookers, nor do i really know if santa monica is famous for their hookers, so i apologize to any santa monica hookers reading this)... super warm and thick, yet decently lightweight... it's not made of a standard ripstop that most down jackets are made of, instead opting for a more street-oriented material... i personally like my down jackets to have that ripstop look, but this is a minor point of contention... it's a little stiff at first and you definitely feel the weight, and that is probably owed to the more street-like material... which is why i prefer a ripstop in a heavier jacket... but, it's got a very "quality" feel and look to it... holden details galore give this jacket some edge... the fit is long and slim... super slim in the arms even in the XL, by the way, for those of you who own any kind of biceps... all in all, it's got a good modern slim fit that will make the ladies double take you as you skate on by to the lift line... the fit also makes it good for the bar afterwards... all the goodies you expect from holden, especially in the aesthetic department, but definitely not lacking in the rider-specific features as seen in the lycra wrist gaiters and removable powder skirt... at $82.49 this is an absolute steal...

Capita UltraFear FK Snowboard

December 23, 2009

you don't need a wide board with a 12 boot... super wide boards are overkill unless you are a 13 with flat angles... a 12 should be fine on any width above 25.0cm if you're riding park, unless you're riding 0, 0... the ultrafear is a midwide with a width of 25.5ish cm... i'm riding a horrorscope with the same width in 11.5's and 15, -15 angles, and i don't feel a thing... don't believe the hype; unless you're laying down knee dragger euro carves, you won't notice any toe drag with 12's on a midwide... and the benefits you get from riding a midwide as opposed to a super wide trucker board surely outweigh any minimal risk of toedrag...

Cappel Dublin Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 16, 2009

so disappointed to give this jacket 3 stars; i really really wanted to like it... in terms of looks this thing is 6 stars... the fit is perfect: slim, long length, longer sleeves... all the details you want are there: removable powder skirt, lightweight yet warm, comfy "hot chick" silk-like liner, street inspired detailing throughout... but it's the same things that make this jacket so nice and so dope, that make it so unpractical for riding: super soft outer looks like it's going to be a magnet for dirt in the lighter colors, also doesn't look to be the most durable fabric, and the thing that straight up kills it dead is the fact that in order for cappel/ride to make the outer so soft they had to turn down the volume on the waterproofing and breathability ratings... waaaaayyyyy down... although the description says 15000mm / 10000g, this thing is a legit 1000mm / 5000g rating on the label... this down jacket will look so good but will leave you so soggy if you're riding it... so buy the dublin down to take out on the streets and you've got yourself a hell of a jacket... buy it to take a day full of runs in pow or in the park and you've got yourself a wet and most likely sweaty mess... had such high hopes for this jacket too, but it's going back and i'm gonna need to look at some higher rated down jackets.

Burton Grail Snowboard Boot - Men's - 09/10

Burton Grail Snowboard Boot - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 3 December 11, 2009

i'm coming off a season of riding the jeremy jones boot, which i absolutely hated; so anything was bound to be better... i was looking for something with some flex (about a medium flex but definitely more than the jj), but still the right amount of support when needed... this fit the bill, but i'm still pretty iffy about burton's Flex liner series... it's pretty much the same liner from the jj boot with a few tweaks, and i've got to admit that the liner on the jj's sucked arse... the Flex liner is just way too soft to provide anything other than comfort (which will disappear once the mushy foam in them breaks down after riding)... hopefully, the outer on the grail, which is built way more solidly than the jj boot, will help with support and durability... still, i don't see any reasons at all why burton should charge $330 for these... they've really got to work on the Flex liner to make it a lot better in order to justify that kind of price... the other aspects of the boot are great (the air midsole system, the holy shit outsoles, the overall outer build of the boot are all awesome), but the liner really needs to go... hey burton, take a cue from K2, Ride, and Salomon, and go back to the liner drawing board...

since i have a boot size of 11.5-12.0, i'm trying to get into a boot that has some sort of "shrinkage" tech like burton, ride, and salomon so i don't have to ride super wide decks... a 12 boot, for example, will have an 11 or even 10 sized outsole, allowing the rider to more easily fit on a normal width board... i was just wondering if anyone had ever compared the outsole length and bulk of the thirtytwo lashed to say a burton or ride boot... i know that the lashed of the past were a little bulky, and i was just wondering if this year's had gotten any less bulky or shorter in the outsole

feels like real denim because it is real denim...

DC Sega 10 Slim Pant - Men's

DC Sega 10 Slim Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 6, 2009

a bit heavier than i would have liked, but that's probably due to the very authentic denim-like material... these things are actually made of a cotton denim material like your favorite pair of everyday levis, unlike other denim snowpants on the market that just look denim but are actually 100% polyester nylon... the sega slims actually have mostly cotton in the outer (70% cotton), which i was surprised to learn... that fact actually has me a little worried, as i'm curious as to how waterproof the pant will be after the waterproof coating wears off... as for fit, they're a little less slim and a little more roomy than some other "slim" pants, so if you've got jed anderson / joe sexton / jon kooley style go with a smaller size... still has a great flared out look with knees slightly taken in, but again go a lot smaller to get that laura hadar's pant look... the sega slims are more "ghetto slim" if that makes any sense; the right size will get you nice hang to go with your tall tees and hoodies... all in all, a great park pant that will get the job done (but go with airblaster, holden, or L1 if you want a real slim pant)...

K2 Darko Boa Conda Snowboard Boot - Men's

December 6, 2009

does anyone know if K2 uses some sort of "shrinkage" technology in their boots like their stepbrothers over at Ride (Ride uses In2grated Construction that supposedly lets you have the fit of a 12 and the outsole size of a 10) or those people at Burton (Burton uses Shrinkage Tech that does the same)? i only ask because these boots look dope but my size 12's could use some "shrinkage" to fit on my narrower deck...

i've been looking for a flared out pant this season, and these look awesome, but i gotta ask... for 09/10 do these have that nylon cardboardy feeling typical burton material? or more like a twill/herringbone/tweed/streetstyle material feeling, like holden L1 and volcom use?

Burton Ozone Snowboard Boot - Men's - 08/09

November 28, 2009

to everyone who gave these boots such a happy 5 star review when you first bought them... just wondering how the Ozones are now after some days (perhaps an entire season) of riding in em? these are notorious for packing out and their lack of support... i would really be surprised if you're still as staunch a supporter of the Ozone as you were when you first bought them... i agree they are super comfy in the beginning (i mean seriously, what super soft mushy boot isn't? afterall, aren't furry bunny slippers comfy?), but if they were that comfy in the beginning, that's usually a tell-tale sign that these things are gonna pack out on you and become mush... have you taken any big landings in these slippers, er boots? if you're still high on em, more power to ya... but again, i'm just curious, because soft burton boots always seem so sunshine smiley rainbow perfect in the beginning, but then evolve eventually into something you're swearing at profusely midrun (i've been through my share)

Oakley A-Frame Goggle

Oakley A-Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 November 27, 2009

these haven't changed much in years (if it ain't broke yada yada yada)... and they're still the poster child for high quality, great fitting (they even fit larger faces), stylie goggles... i've moved on from these to the bigger bolder and better peripherally visioned electic EG.2's, but my a-frames are always in my bag just in case... i've gone through a lot of these frames in all different colors with all types of lenses, and can recommend that you go with the upgraded lenses over the stocks (i suggest the G30 as my all time versatile fave, as well as the high intensity yellow for flat light days, and the black iridium for super bluebird days... if you have to go with the cheaper stock lens, opt for the VR50 over the persimmon)... oakley lenses are second to none in terms of clarity, quality, and choice.

DAKINE Bronco Glove - Men's

DAKINE Bronco Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 27, 2009

there's really not much more you can ask for... these gloves will make you spin faster... and they really help with riding switch.

waterproof insert, lightweight, super low profile, dope colorways, zipper closure instead of the dreaded snag-up-your-clothing velcro, and a durable palm and fingertips for use in the park; this glove can take you from november to may comfortably... the palm and outer material they use is a little stiff out of the box and needs some breaking in, but after that you're golden.

DAKINE Mustang Glove - Men's

DAKINE Mustang Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 27, 2009

would be THE perfect park glove, except it doesn't have a waterproof insert; at $60 you'd expect it would... the mustang is super low profile, lightweight, decently warm, super dexterous for those grabs, built so nicely, and just looks damn nice... however, after a few days, the waterproof treatment on the leather palm will wear off, and you will be left with a soggy cold mess on your hands by lunch time... i still wear em for half the day, but i usually have to switch them out with another pair of gloves in the afternoon... Dakine, listen up: just put a water proof insert in these and you've got yourselves THE perfect glove for the all around parkrat.

not as slim as last year's Slim Fit

Volcom Recognize Pant - Men's

Volcom Recognize Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 27, 2009

the recognize pant is labeled as Volcom's Slim Ergonomic Boot Fit... last year's Slim Fit was almost perfect... each leg looked like an hourglass: narrowed at the knee then flared out huge towards the cuffs with extra large zippered ghetto slits... this year, it seems they widened out the knee a bit (the cuffs are still big, but the ghetto slits are not as long), so in reality they kind of feel like normal straight leg pants with just a little bit of slim in the knee, unless you get them in smaller sizes... if you want good pants, these definitely fit the bill, but if you want a slim look, i'd go elsewhere... (also, note that the black color is not actually a solid black... it's a shiny material with gold specks in it... i wasn't too big a fan of the shiny material, instead favoring a more street-feel with herringbones and tweeds, which they did last year and this year in some other models and colors)

Volcom Sighting V. Co-Logical Pant - Men's

Volcom Sighting V. Co-Logical Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 27, 2009

for the price, volcom makes THE best snow pants... compare other brands at similar price ranges and there's no question volcom makes a better pant... the materials, craftsmanship, and fit are all so much more superior to other brands at similar prices (especially burton who is known for overpricing their crap)... you can't go wrong with the sighting, which has ample pocket space, a nice generous snowboard specific fit, and a material that is very street-like (meaning it doesn't feel like burton's plastic cardboard material)...

expensive but reliable and parkcentric

Burton Triad Snowboard Binding

Burton Triad Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 November 27, 2009

my only gripe, and it can be a big one for some, is the price of the triads... $280 is too expensive for what seems like only a slight upgrade over the cartel which retails for about $60 less (if you can get these on sale like they are here they're worth it)... it's a little softer than the cartel, which should give you a little more tweakability on presses and butters in the park... forward lean, even set at 0, is a little too aggressive for some (even more of a problem on the cartel)... and it's decently light weight and not overcomplicated as some bindings can get these days... unibody construction, not a lot of moving parts; it's pretty simple, which i prefer over the plastic baseplate / metal heelcup combo that has too many screws and bolts, etc... i'd like to see a little more innovation from burton in their binding line (aside from EST), as the triad and the cartel have pretty much stayed the same for years, save for some tweaks in the basepad... if you've got burton boots, they fit so cush inside them like hand to glove... because of it's softness and give, the triad works best in mellow mess around park situations; there are better bindings out there if you want to charge... the aqua green color is dope dope dope.

fun fun fun...

Capita Horrorscope FK Snowboard

Capita Horrorscope FK Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2009

after a season on it, and after getting used to capita's FK RC and the way the horrorscope rides (and also giving the board a full detune), i no longer have any problems with the hookiness from the flat kicked tips at the corners of the contact points... the board is soooo buttery and ridiculously easy to throw around... the soft tips make it really forgiving for flatgrounding and general messing around, while the slightly stiffer midsection makes it decently stable outside of the park on groomers (i mean slightly stiffer relative to the tips - this thing is still hella soft compared to most other boards, and is definitely softer than the stairmaster)... the overall softness doesn't ruin its rideability for some reason like other jib sticks though... medium sized tables are no problems and i also have to add that after getting used to the different way of ollieing the horrorscope, i can't get enough of its pop... the thing boosts... it ollies so easily; no clue why, it just does... 20-30 foot tables in the park make for solid landings with no sketch... boxes/rails were super easy on this thing... hands down, my favorite thing to do on this thing is just eff around all mountain: buttering/pressing every which way, flatrgound, jibbing 'SLOW' signs and tree stumps and reverting out, butter spins, easy 1's and 3's, finding rollers and side hits and tricking off em... it's a hands down fun deck... sooo deliciously easy to ride.

Burton Mountain Tech Tall T-Shirt -Long-Sleeve - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 3 November 26, 2009

if you're looking for a solid technical piece of first layer while still keeping it parkrat tall, look no further... this thing runs huge and keeps you dry... it's a little thin so if you're riding colder temps you may want to check elsewhere... otherwise, this makes the perfect tech park first layer... i have four of these in four different colors from last year that i got all at discount, and couldn't be happier... and i'm glad i got last year's because this year burton has decided to increase the price by $10 while not adding one single new feature... even the colors are the same, minus the dope electric blue color from last year... the only thing that's changed is the ink they used to screen print the front... really burton? does ink cost you an extra $10 per shirt? i've noticed burton doing this lame price trick across their entire line... they don't improve the product at all, save for some color changes, then go ahead and charge more for it (sometimes up to a $30-$50+ increase)... this is ridiculous... but i'll get off my soapbox, and stick to the tech tall tee review and say you'll love the shirt... it's a great first layer... i would have given this more stars, but the price thing is annoying as muck.

near perfect glove for park

Burton AK Tech Glove - Men's

Burton AK Tech Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 26, 2009

i'll state up front that i'm not a burton hater but i do criticize their pricing in relation to their quality (in fact, despite the current economic climate, burton has actually increased the price of most of their products without adding any improvements to them other than color changes = SUPER LAME)... i believe that with most of their products you can get better quality and style for the same price if you go to a different brand... that said, i love these gloves (and i've been through my fair share of gloves from all different brands)... i usually get about a season's worth of riding from a pair of gloves so i expect to buy a new pair each year... my review is based on this experience... the AK Techs definitely stood up to a year's worth of park riding and hardly show any palm or fingertip wear (quite a good sign)... they are super light yet are relatively warm, especially if you wear liner gloves underneath like the thin ones UnderArmour makes... plus they had a zipper instead of velcro which i make a point to look for so i can avoid velcro snag... my only fear about these was the lack of a waterproof insert (again, any company other than burton would have put a waterproof insert into a glove in this price range)... the fact that burton chose not to yet still insisted on charging $60 and slapping the AK name on them is a little upsetting... but surprisingly, the waterproofness with just the waterproof treating they put on the outer held up considerably nice throughout the year (that is until spring when they started letting in water)... still, they were surprisingly good gloves for me... i'll be trying Drop brand gloves this year but actually would not have a problem getting these again... (for a similarly priced and similarly styled but better performing glove WITH a waterproof insert, check out Dakine's Bronco glove)

Burton Cargo Pant - Men's - 09/10

Burton Cargo Pant - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 2 November 26, 2009

i've ridden a couple of different burton cargos from different years and they've pretty much stayed the same for years... little to no innovation from an overpriced burton product seems to be the norm... i'm not a burton hater as i ride some of their first layer, socks, boots, and bindings, but in terms of outerwear you can definitely get more bang for your buck if you go with another brand (volcom, holden, 686, L1, bonfire, ride all have similarly priced pants with better materials, craftsmanship, and more creative styles)... you're pretty much getting a little less than you pay for here... nothing special at all and as always, burton pants feel like cardboard unless you really jump up in price to their higher end stuff... as i stated, you can get way better materials that feel like street clothing if you go to a company like volcom or holden (or any of the others i mentioned)... the burton cargos are relatively reliable but seem to break down quick from wear... this pant seems to be the go-to pant for someone graduating from pants they had previously bought at Sports Authority. again, you can do better...
