Soft Shell Seeping

This Month's Gear Guru Question:

by Backcountry Bob
Q. How do you revive the water repellency of a soft shell jacket? I have one from The North Face; it has long "fur" on the inside. The jacket no longer repels water rather, it spots when wet. I've never even washed this jacket. Is there a product I'm supposed to spray or wash into my beloved jacket?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sarah

A. Hi Sarah,

Yes, we all need to care for the dear softshell. It is a great versitile jacket that does need a little help sometimes. We recommend using Nikwax SoftShell Proof. Nikwax SoftShell Proof is a wash-in treatment for any softshell jacket that revitalizes the durable water repellant finish while maintaining the awesome breathability you got the jacket for in the first place. It won't make water bead, but it'll be there in a pinch, and work well when there's just a dusting of snow. We hope this helps get you back into the outdoors with your truly water repellant jacket.

Cheers,
