Rab Momentum Jacket - Men's - 2010 BCS

Item # RAB0062

Rab’s Momentum Jacket employs 3-layer, waterproof, hyper-breathable eVent fabric to keep you at an optimal, comfortable temperature from trailhead to ridgeline and back. The Momentum takes up little space in you pack as a just-in-case option on summer hikes, and the element-shunning eVent fabric breathes as well as it protects. Pull up the wire-reinforced, stowable hood when the thunderheads threaten, and toss a few extra energy gels in the Momentum Jacket’s 2 zippered front pockets for a pick-me-up on the way back to the trailhead.

Bottom Line:

Build Momentum.

The description for the hood reads that the hood is stowable

The description for the hood reads that the hood is stowable but I read conflicting information on the Rab website... Could you please clarify if the hood really is stowable?

You can roll it inward but I would not consider it stowable. I don't even know it is there but it is always ready when I put my hand back there.

Ever see a dog pant when it is hot? This jacket seems to know when to breath right before the time you begin to perspire. I never feel uncomfortable in this jacket. In fact, I find myself reaching for it all the time. I use it for around town or day hikes in 70s temps or when it was a little cooler down to 50s. Either way, I am comfortable as if my own living room. Now the fit ...

I am 6 ft 205 with broad shoulders and 43 inch chest. I have some biceps too. The only choice on SAC and DOG was XL. I did view the sizing chart and found it interesting that the XXL only increases in chest size and not sleeve and neck size. I like that for Marmot always is soupy on me with XXL but restrictive in a XL. Too bad I cannot get an XXL in this jacket while paying $118 for it :-) The most bang ever for my buck.

That being said, it is form fitting on the shoulders, chest and arms. Not a whole lot of layering going on here. In fact I tried an R2 and it just fit but restrictive. So I will probably use it summer hikes, rain and wind. I use a tee underneath it and it is so comfortable.

You can read the technical specs on this jacket to find out about the pockets and adjustments. One note of interest is the hood. Truly a wonderful and secure design. When I purchased it , I wondered about a wired brim thinking it would be heavy and difficult. Well all I can say it is I wish all my arcteryx jackets had that option. Stays put in any weather and you can mold the hell out of it. Your head sinks right into it while your vision is not restricted. The jacket runs right below the belt so it is not long but tapered in the back to half your rump and the arms are perfect length. This is a light but durable jacket. I am quite surprised no one has bothered to write a review for it.

Since I bought this jacket, I am in the process of returning my Aegis and Typhoon. Both are great jackets but don't compare to this jacket's fit, durability, design and functions.

Should be noted that I have only used this on day hikes and city life but I am confident it would excel in higher elevations.
