prAna designed every stitch of the Men's Stretch Zion Pants with climbing performance and versatility in mind. The nylon and spandex blend helps the Stretch Zion Pants move with you as you work your way up a splitter crack. This thin and abrasion-resistant material feels cool when you need pants for thorny approaches and rough summer climbs, and double-layering on the knees and butt adds durability. Once you're through the bushwhacking, roll up the legs, snap them in place with the calf buttons, and commence sending your route. The Stretch Zion Pants' ventilated inseam gusset and quick-drying fabric keep you dry all day long.
Bottom Line:
Pull on prAna's Stretch Zion Pants and say goodbye to scraped knees and shredded shorts.
Nice thin material that stretches as you need it. Two buttons at the calf allow you to shorten the legs so you can send your next project. Really like those pants, very versatile.
I love these pants. They are super comfy and still look good enough that they pass for my uniform at The Bird. They are def stretchy enough to do anything your heart desires in them. The best part is definitely the vents in the crotch for your swalls.
I am 6'0" 200lbs and I have a 35 waist. I bought the L and it fit absolutely perfectly (slightly snug). Legs slightly long (probably 32 or 34 long). The XL is probably a 37-38ish. It's all they have left, so if you feel it's right go for it. These are the best pants I ever bought.
I have bought a lot of climbing/hiking/scrambling/traveling pants over the years, and these are the most comfortable and versatile I have ever owned. You can come off the mountain or out of the jungle, and after a shower, you can wear the prAna Stretch Zion Pants out to dinner. I also love the zippered side pockets for secure storage of items you want at hand (knife, compass, money, wallet, etc.).
I ordered two of these pair a month ago, February 2009. Upon receiving them, I was stunned. I have about 4 pair of these peAna Zion pants bought in early 2008. The new pair I received are no where near the quality I received in 2008. The seams are cheaper, the thickness of the cloth is half of what my other Zion's are, and the waist cinch has been cheapened. I returned them. The quality of the prAna men's pants has got to improve. The current offering is poor quality compared to the past offerings. I would suggest going back to the drawing board on this prodcut.
I tried a pair of these on and everything seemed perfect...except
I tried a pair of these on and everything seemed perfect...except for the belt. Not sure what is up with it.
It seemed easy enough to loosen, but I couldn't get it to tighten. I pulled and tugged on it and then finally sort of loosened each end of the belt from the small metal buckle and it did tighten, but was sort of twisted weird on the buckle. Is this how it is supposed to work?
Does anyone else have problems with the belt and buckle? I SURE wish these had belt loops.
If I can't live with the belt, what other pant would be a close match to these? I like the slight stretch that they have.
The belt is designed with a double-pass buckle, like on a climbing harness. To adjust simply feed some of the tail into the buckle to loosen it up. Then snug up the belt by holding onto the buckle with your right hand and pulling the slack end with your left hand. Pull the tail tight again to lock it in place. You can tuck the tail into your pocket or inside the waist band.
I recieved a pair of the prAna Zion Stretch pants as a gift. These pants have a roomy athletic fit. I use them for just about everything from hiking to training to casual dinners. The fabric is light yet durable with the perfect amount of stretch. Highly recommended.
I got these pants for a Christmas gift for my husband and he loves them. Matter of fact, we opened our Christmas gifts on Dec. 23th and he wore them the entire day and a good portion of Christmas Eve. He is 6'0 and 175 pound and the medium is a perfect fit. I got these for him because he is an avid outdoors man and they are great for hiking, climbing, geotracking(great pockets), and pretty much any outdoor and/or indoor use! A little pricey but a great gift! I would certainly recommend them and so would my husband.
hiking, traveling, and damn near anything else. these pants are sweeeeet! (time will tell if they are as good as my first pair - which are freakishly durable!)
Medium will not be too tight, these are very loose fitting. I typically wear a 31 and they are cinched up and (probably) stupid looking on me. Excellent material.
So I've bought every color they have to offer now. I use these pants for everything: Climbing/Mountaineering, hiking, camping, outside work, messing around with the kiddo's, and just about everything else I could imagine. The price is a little more steep than I'm use to but if you look at this price versus descent jeans and these lasting 10x as long, there's no question. They're wicked comfortable!!!
I got this pant for my dad and was surprised on how great they are. They look really nice on, but the best part is that the material is great! My dad loved them, said that they were really comfortable. They have some buttons to roll the legs up so they are great for climbing in the fall. But they are also appropriate for work or hiking or basically anything. Great pants.
Any other women out there fed up with super-clingy, tissue-thin, waist-hits-at-your-butt women's hiking/climbing pants? I've spent a lot of time trying on a lot of pants, and I'm beginning to wonder how those of us who are not built petite and and only modestly curved ever find active gear that really feels good.
I finally decided to try men's pants. A lot of these are busts, too -- I don't like that baggy, "I'm wearing men's pants" feeling any more than being poured into a pair of women's hip-hugger types.
Enter the Zion. To begin with, it's made of good quality, durable fabric, it comes in good colors, and it stretches into every yoga position I could remember on the dressing room floor.
The fit, for a woman who is 6 feet tall with a 33 inch inseam and about 170 lbs (since I can only speak for myself here), could go two ways: a size large is curve-skimming, the perfect length, and not too tight. It fits like a good women's pant -- except the waist actually hits at a comfortable low-waist! (Imagine that!) An XL is looser through the thigh, more like a carpenter pant, and long enough to pool slightly around the tops of your boots. It's a little big in the waist, but hey -- it's a men's pant! I like these pants so much, I'll have them altered if I have to.
Bottom line: one woman's holy grail of climbing pants. I know I'm not the only tall, curvy woman climbing out there...
Great pants hanging out, hiking. The stretch fabric give mostly horizontal direction and is perfect for working in tight spots. Sufficient pockets for all needs. One minor dislike; Velcro fly is. Also has little snaps to hold the pants rolled-up about eight inches.
I have owned at least two pair of these pants since they first came out. I have used them for everything from guiding cave trips, climbing in the alps, to welding, wrenching on my Jeep, and 4 Wheeling for days on end. After all of the stuff I do in these pants I just toss them in the wash, and go out for a nice dinner with the wife. I just this week got rid of my first pair, after 5 years of serious use. I have washed these pants in a river hug them on a tree for about 15 min, and most of the time they are dry. The pockets are also a good size. Oh yea they make my ass look great too HAHA.
I went out climbing some offwidth cracks my first day wearing these pants and was constantly jamming my knees in the cracks. I thought I was going to destroy the pants but there was not 1 seam or thread torn. I was really impressed at how well they did against abrasion. I am 5'11", 150 and usually wear a 32 in most pants. The medium fit perfectly and this pant is great for climbing, hiking, or traveling.
I really like the material, the nylon is a tough material that is still noisy (swish, swish) but has a feel closer to a cotton.. nothing like other cheaper nylon pants. They claim to be reinforced in the knees & seat, I don't see that really helping much if it exists; I don't feel it. Nevertheless, I love the fit (Medium) (5'11, 150lb), belt seems to function fine, favorite traveling pants I've ever tried, EDIT AFTER EXTENDED USE: Tough construction, great fit out of the medium for a 33"waist 32" length, Quick to dry on a clothes line. Maybe I'll get the shorts someday too. Only question is: Where's the loop for your chalk bag? Minor oversight. Choosing one pair of pants to travel the world, this is the one.
So I've owned three pairs of these pants now and I have loved all of them. They are very light weight and very comfortable. They are hefty enough to climb long enduro style sport and multi-pitch, but light and comfy enough to boulder in. The inseam is a little short, but that is because these are climbing pants, and nobody wants their pants around there climbing shoe when they are trying to place that desperate heel hook, or establish on that micro edge. I climb 6-7 days a week and I am never complaining when I wear these pants.
The inseam on a small is 28"-30". Since i am 6'2" and need about a 34" inseam from my hips, i think a small MIGHT work for you. They might be an inch or two long.
This pants have a little bit of stretch and are comfortable while doing flexible moves. They also breath well. (The vented crotch has 6 1/8 in o.d. holes in it, 3 on each side, I guess this helps with ventilation.) The pant belt is non-elastic and odd at best to tighten. Once adjusted the belts not really an issue except the 5 inch end that kinda just hangs there. To 'remedy' this I managed to tuck the end into the part of the pants where it comes out.
When I compare this to my REI minstrel pants, these have a more durable exterior when it comes to friction and snags.
I climb in a wide variety of pants, but after climbing in the Zion pant it has taken over as my number one. I wear a 32x32 so I bought medium and was stoked when they fit perfectly. The Prana pants seam to be a better deal than the same style pant from other companies.
Ok, so this is my first pair of Prana pants and I've been holding off for awhile, regardless of the established reputation of comfort and durability, because, well, I only see climbers and folks on their way to yoga class wearing these, and frankly, I'm not the same build as these folks, so I was worried about fit. So I tried these on in the Men's large and the waist was perfect, but the inseam is about a 32-33, and I'm a 30. So they were too long, but the bottom cuff of the pant legs have these buttons (calf buttons) that will secure the pant cuffs, primarily for climbing purposes. The buttons on one leg had different positions than the other leg. I never figured out why it was designed this way, but I made it work because they are, by far, the most comfortable pants on the planet. What I'd like to see from Prana is improved, specific sizing: Waist/Inseam sizes.
I think I have some of the originals so I'm not sure about any changes that have been made. I use these pants for biking, hiking, kickin' around and they're awesome!I commute to work and I arrive looking respectable. I get home and throw on a t-shirt and I'm comfortable. I go hiking and they move with me... I could sleep in them.I have worn them so many times I'm amazed how well they've held up!I'm buying another pair and I hope I'm not let down by the new version!
As stated before, yup, these are great pants. I always find it hard to find hiking pants that are long enough. I'm 6'2" with a 34" waist with long legs. I'm definitely not drying these but at least I don't have the 'high-water' look going on. They stay over my boots well enough.
My go to hiking and early morning dog walkin' pants.
best pants EVER! I wear them to work and for play - take them to the crag, in the water, on the bike, out for tacos, whatever. Super comfy. Hopefully prAna will continue to make them and supply more colors. I have three pairs of pants and four of the shorts... Rarely do I wear anything else.
I've been looking for a pair of pants that give me the freedom to do everything. These pant are it. I can wear them to work Friday, hike through thorns and brush on the way to the wall, climb all day long, brush em off in the creek, put a nice shirt on and be at church Sunday morning. These pants are ligit.
I have an older pair with the standard inseam and a new pair with the short inseam. Both are great. I liked the velcro fly on the old one, but the zipper doesn't really add weight. Both are stretchy and durable (old one held up to some barbed wire, and the holes never spread). The pockets are handy and secure. And of course, for climbing the gusseted inseam is invaluable.
I got these pants around a month ago and have used them for climbing nearly every day at college. They look great, athletic cut (5'11", 140 pounds, I got a small, fits perfect) but run a little big. I normally wear a medium in pants like this, but the medium was just huge. The snaps on the side allow you to easily roll the pants up, and stay there securely. The zippered thigh pockets stay secure and don't swing around when they're full like on other cargo pants. Super comfy, and they look pretty dressy too, I've even worn them to church!
I like these pants a lot. They are very comfortable and the material is very soft. That being said, I do have two complaints about them. The first is that the belt is hard to adjust and slips loose at times. The other problem is in the fit. I am a bigger guy, and the size I need to fit my waist is a XXL, but in this size, the pants are extremely long. I had to have a tailor shorten the legs, and this made the roll up buttons on the legs unusable. Still, I do like these pants, but I would like to be able to roll the legs. I owned an older pair of prana pants and bought these thinking they were the newer version, and while similar, they are a little different, and all said and done, I liked the old version better.
these pants are legit. bought a pair of these and the millet gokyo pant to test out. Extremely stretchy compared to the others and very comfortable. Recommended for an outer layer on cold weather hikes. would like to have a full belt instead of the current one.
After advice from a reliable friend and reading many exceptional reviews about these pants, I expected to love them. I didn't. I took them out on a shakedown weekend backpacking trip and found the material heavy against the skin in hot weather. Everyone's different I suppose. I prefer the no-stretch nylons used by Mountain Hardware for their Mesa short or convertible pants for example. I find both these versions very comfortable, good fitting and cool.
Don't get me wrong these are nice pants, but the past styles/slash models were of better quality. I agree with other reviews here that they do not seem as durable. Also the new belt design is questionable. Now with that said if you have not owned other prana zion pants then you will be very happy with this purchase,
These are not the pants I remember seeing last season but maybe my mind is slipping. Where is the "double-layering" on the knees and butt? It's not there on the ones I received. There are seams where a second layer might occur but there is only a single layer. The thin material and baggy bottom legs reminds me of "Stayin' Alive." I tried on pants locally to get the right size but the XL that arrived was much longer and baggier. I had to hem them 3.5" and I am 6'2". Rear pocket is not secure, front hand pockets aren't either--everything falls out of them when I sit. The pants need belt loops because the cynch buckle is badly designed and bound to fail. I am puzzled what these pants are intended for. Bouldering/rock climbing? Not likely. Backpacking? Maybe. Hot weather travel? Also maybe, but prAna has far more functional and better looking pants for that. I should have returned them but didn't. Sorry prAna. I already have better pants for a far lower price.
OK. I gave it one more try...I like these pants that much. I ordered black this time, and to my good fortune they are like my original 2007's...tough, lightweight. They are not as thin as the earth color I had ordered before which turned out to be disappointingly thin. So maybe the thin ones were fakes? Doesn't matter, these new black are back to form and I'm happy!
You pose the same questions on my mind. The quality when compared to '07 pants is very inferior. Unfortunate because they used to be fantastic pants, rugged but lightweight, but no way as thin as these. And, YES!, where is the double-layering on the knees and butt? So different in quality I seriously thought these to be counterfeit. I'm in search of better...anyone have any recommendations?
These pants are the BOMB. I got 3 different colors and they all look good (black, steel, and earth). They are made of spandex so they stretch a bit when you need them to on those high step or split moves. I wear pants size 32, am 6 feet 3 tall and weight 175lbs, and I got M for all of them: The fit is very nice. They are also very durable: I have been climbing 3 times a week with them indoors or outdoors and have not seen a hole at all.
These pants are super-comfy, flexible, and have become my favorite pants for climbing- they stretch, breathe, keep you cool, protect your skin, and seem (so far) to shed dirt and wear nicely. For climbing, I can't figure out a single fault.
I wish they came, like most all other pants, in specific inseam lengths- they seem to say 'take it or leave it', and the sizing chart doesn't say just how long they are- basically, you get them how you get them. Since my inseam is shorter than the 36" or so that come in a large, I'm gonna have to hem them if I don't want to wear them rolled-up all the time. That is really my only complaint about these pants. In all other respects, they're sweet enough that I now own 3 pair.
Okay, that is a little dramatic but it's mostly true. Accomplishing dinner/climbing/travel trifecta is no problem for the anytime, (almost) any situation Stretch Zions. They are cut really well, they cool and breathe like crazy in the Texas heat, they shrug off abrasion and they stretch for those extra long moves on rock or hillside high stepping. I've tried similar offerings from Mountain Hardwear, Marmot and Patagonia. They all come up a little short or one way or another and I keep coming back to these. Classic, comfortable and stylish. And they perform too. One caution: friends who are built with a lot more stock than my 6'2/170 frame complain about the slim fit.
Unfortunately, they obviously have an issue with the built in belt breaking far before the pants are shredded. I climb sandstone and limestone 24/7, the material is the toughest climbing pant out there in terms of putting up with climbing abuse, however the belts all break and this is commonly reported on reviews. My solution was to have my sister-in-law (thank god I know someone who sews, because no one in this household can) sew in addition belt loops (one is already on the pant) so I can use a belt with them. Also, more sad news for those of us who are skinny and tall. They no longer do the standard 33" inseam, now a "small" is quite wide and short, to fit where America is heading. I realize us skinny and fit climbing dudes are obviously not their most profitable market, despite this being the best climbing pant out there in my opinion. I still cannot find a better replacement, so still worth buying at the moment.
These are great climbing pants. They offer a comfortable alternative fabric that stretches for climbing, but still offers style for those pub sessions after the climbing session. The various pockets offer storage and the gusseted crotch provides great mobility.
Do you still make the 90% cotton and 10% lycra climbing pants
Do you still make the 90% cotton and 10% lycra climbing pants that you used to? I can't locate them anywhere. Do you have anything close to it or do you know anyone who has?
Lightweight and most freedom of movement I've had in pants. Just love them. I'm 5'9" and 155, usually wear a 33/34 and the Medium fit me perfect. I have a pair of large as well and the waist fits fine but legs are a good 4in too long!
If you want to climb in comfort but do not see any reason to spend $150 for a pair of climbing pants then you have found the product you need. Whether you are climbing old school chimneys or high end sport routes these pants allow you unfettered freedom of movement. Just as importantly these pants will be there day after day because they are super durable. The durability comes from intelligent fabric use that produces a lightweight and bomber product. I have always used less expensive cotton based pants before but the Zion pant from prAna out lasted more than half a dozen pairs of these inferior products thus proving the added value of the Zion pant. The only flaw I encountered was the waist cinch not staying secure, and this was really negligable. Buy these, save money, climb more!
I got these pants for hiking, and I love them! They are lightweight, comfortable, and make my butt look good! I now have 2 pairs. Get these pants - you will not be disappointed.
Took these on a hiking trip and they were great. I'm a little taller (6'1"ish) and regular length size large tend be too short but a large in these pants were perfect. I do wish the buckle was easier to tighten but it can be dealt with. Other than that, super comfortable, zipper pockets are great, they dry very quickly and they hold up well on the trail.
They aren't tights. The cut looks to be about the same as regular jeans with a bit of narrowing in the upper leg. They're less baggy than Columbias. If you think they're too baggy, you could roll up the bottoms a bit.
Thought I was getting a pair of climbing pants...but, hey, I'm just wearin' these around. They feel great, a light medium-weight fabric, & look good. I like the roll up option, though it might be better for beach walking than an offwidth in the sun. The size large fits perfectly (6'1", 180, 33"-34"waist, 33"inseam). There not loaded with pockets or features, but good enough for running around town...& who carries much of anything in their pockets while climbing?
These are my first pair of Zions but won't be my last. I've worn them climbing and bouldering on rough Oklahoma granite and hiking/scrambling through brush and briars and they still look brand new. They're much tougher than they seem at first look. As for fit, I'm 5'9/160 with a 31" waist and the smalls fit perfectly--snug but not too tight. Definitely recommended.
Best pantalones ever! Third pair of Zion pants. They're light enough in the summer and feel comfortable in the winter. I use mine for rock climbing, bouldering and everything else and they hold up great. They also have the best cut and style so you can feel comfortable and confident while wearing your pants. As apposed to the alternative. They are pricey but worth the money.
These pants have become my instant favorite. Works especially great in the tropics, dries quickly even in high humidity, and is oh so breathable. The "makes my ass look great" remark made below is not way off the mark either. (Big grin!)
It's because the Zion comes in a full length pant AND shorts. Small/Short = size small, short pants. If you wear a 30 inch inseam get the short inseam in small. The small in standard length is way too long. I wear a 29/30 pant and the short inseam in small fits me PERFECT.
I really like the build and style of this model of prana's but they just didn't function for me. They are super well built, but the belt buckle is still the same (breakable) and not-easily slid - similar to the less expensive pants, and there are still no backup belt-loops if you bust the buckle. They are also a little thinner material than the less expensive pair (voyagers) i returned recently because the buckle broke while I was climbing ...not having the backup loops ended the climb - a true perfect day killer - gear failure.
They also have no back-left pocket which for me is critical (i know - this is picky) but I rely on all pockets. Sweetly though - all the pockets are zip style. The voyagers I sent back actually had better pockets for field books (for notes) on both back pockets, so I'll probably just buy that style again.
Still - overall these pants will serve any of you very well I think, just weren't quite my style. They are super comfy and I honestly think anyone would dig them....they fit well and cover boots well with perfect leg / cuff (?) openings at the base of the leg. This is a good product overall.
I have just recieved by second pair of these pants. The first pair have lasted 4 yrs and have hardly any wear and tear after climbing everything from desert spires, to Yosemite cracks, and Colorado squeeze chimneys. I have even used them ice climbing. The newer style has a zipper and button instead of the previous velco and buckle which I view as an improvement. Light weight and comfortable in hot weather and the small fits me perfectly (5'8" and 29" waist).
I have a decent outdoor pant collection (Ex Officio, Columbia, Gramicci, etc.) and these babies are the ones I grab first. I own 2 pair. I'm 6' and 160lb (32" x 32") and the medium fits great. They take pretty much anything I throw at them. They are fine in hot weather (Mexico and FL this summer) but also work well in cooler and windy conditions (unlike the Ex Officio Amphi Pant). They dry superfast. The small percentage of spandex in the weave makes the fabric "give" nicely when I'm rock-hopping, dancing or freerunning. My girlfriend thinks my ass looks great in them (as opposed to the baggy Columbias) and encouraged me to buy another pair. Two thigh pockets are designed perfectly for cell phone, wallet or money clip, and zip for security (6 pockets total). Caveats: The "belt" doesn't maintain tension for very long, so better be happy with the standard waist fit -- it's all you'll get. the 4 mesh pockets occasionally catch on pointy objects like eyeglasses. But that's about it. Enjoy yourself!
These pants are great for hiking/bushwhacking around Idaho and Montana in the summer. I haven't tried them in the winter but I am wondering that, if I layered underneath them with capilene, if I couldn't snowshoe in them to. Anyway, we have tons of devil's club, knapweed, shrubs and mosquitoes up here and these pants take care of all those things. I've even "assed" my way down some scree in these pants and they STILL look like new. They're very breathable. The Capri function is over rated and not worth that much IMHO...unless you were planning on wading a 6" deep creek for some reason. They are like a bell bottom fit but that means they'll go over your boots easily. I'm a 31-32 waist and a 33 inseam and I wear the medium and love it. My brother is slightly more portly (34 waist 33 inseam) and he wears a large and is happy.
These pants are great! The have some stretch to them so climbing or hiking is very comfortable. They can be rolled up and buttoned down if you get warm. Once you put them on you wont wanna take them off, I just ordered my second pair.
I think I made the right choice for my first pair of climbing pants. If you're considering buying the Zion shorts or knickers, don't bother. The pants can function like either and then some.
Even tho the small has an inseam of 30, it was too long for me. I ended up getting the short inseam small instead. I am 5'-7" and I typically wear a 29/30 pant. The short inseam in small fits me PERFECT. Great pants- very versatile!
I am a 28 waist. Built in belt has to work for us climbers or we are climbing with the pants down to our ankles. Just a bad visual any way you look at it. Please fix next go around prAna. Best pant out there otherwise and you offer them in "long" as I recall, which is good for us skinny climbing dudes. Thanks.
Good fit, functional. Not the greatest design for longevity, they will fail prematurely due to exposed surface stitching across the thighs because of the added knee pieces and the way main front pockets are stitched. Simple designs with little exposed stitching are best for durability
