A favorite among climbers and yogis alike, the prAna Men's Mojo Short brings big-time comfort to complement your balanced chi. The lightweight polyester fabric wicks moisture when you break a sweat, and it dries quickly after a quick dip in a cool mountain stream. Mesh-lined pockets reduce weight and increase ventilation, while the soft-brushed waistband offers all-day comfort.
Comfortable easy-to-wear casual shorts. They run small. I'm 6'1", 215 lbs, and usually wear XL shorts, but I had to go XXL on these, mainly because the material around my thieghs felt too tight.. Gray is nice, but the orange color is my favorite.
These shorts are great for warm weather. They breathe and dry really fast. They feel almost like swimshorts which is a little weird at first but there's nothing wrong with it. They are not restrictive at all; they're great to either lounge around in or do something active. The front pockets are pretty deep so I won't be losing stuff in the couch or car anymore.
As usual with prAna, the sizes on these shorts run small. However, I knew this tendency before hand so I could order big and not have to exchange sizes. The sizes are designed for really skinny and small people. I usually go with L (I'm a 35 waist and 190 lbs), and the XL fits pretty nicely. I would order a size up.
I am nervous. I always wear a 32. I ordered the Medium stretch
I am nervous. I always wear a 32. I ordered the Medium stretch zion pants and I loved them so much I ripped the tags off and wore them, but now regret it. I have like an inch and a half between me and the pant when pulled. The tab holds them up though. SO my thoughts. Do they run big or small? Mixed reviews here..
I am not sure if you are asking about the Stretch Zion in your post or the Mojo short that this post is attached to. The Stretch Zion seem to run a little bigger, I wear a 30/32 jean and I fit in a small St. Zion. As for the mojo I would definitely size up. I wear a medium in the mojo and I like the way they fit.
Prana's Mojo Short has an odd fit in XXL. The legs bind, and the fit is very high waisted, which makes the binding worse. For yoga or climbing, I would find this short restrictive.
I am comparing them to the XXL Stretch Zion short, which, IMO, the best short I've ever worn.
I really, really wanted to like the Mojo short, but can't.
My boyfriend will only climb in these shorts. He has them in "rust" & "moss" ...his rust pair are small & the moss are medium. He has a 30-inch waist & likes both sizes. They look the same on him in the legs. The medium waistband is just a bit looser.
I have two pairs of Mojos and wear them for everything. They are the best all around active lifestyle shorts I have ever purchased. I like the fact that they do not have a liner (Breathe extra well when casual, but combo well with compression shorts for extreme activities). 6'4" 210 35" waist and I go with XL, but haven't ever tried L...
If you're on the fence, buy them. You shouldn't regret it.
I've owned several prAna products but this by far take the cake. I do everything in them. They're great in the gym and in CrossFit. Great feel, lightweight, no pressure points. I'm 6'2, 200 lbs with a 34-36 waist and an XL fits great. Probably could have went to a L but not disappointed I didn't. Got them for 20 doll hairs and for that price I'd buy another pair..wish they had more colors!
Does the waist band stretch out over time? I'm deciding
Does the waist band stretch out over time? I'm deciding between a large and extra large, both of which fit and stay up, but I'm worried the extra large will stretch over time and not stay up as well.
I just bought my third pair of these shorts. They are absolutely amazing, They are super comfy when hiking or climbing and very lightweight. They feel like an athletic short, but look more sophisticated thanks to the faux zipper flap haha. The pockets are super deep so you dont have to worry about losing your keys or phone. These are great shorts and you will hardly see me in the summer wearing anything else.
Also I have a 32 inch waist and I normally wear a medium, but these run a bit small, so i size up one size to a large and they fit perfect.
I'm up to 3 pairs of these now. My first pair I mistakenly bought in Large, but still wore it as often as I could for over a year with no signs of wear. However, since they hung pretty low (5'-10", 165), so I bought 2 new pairs for this climbing season. The Mediums fit perfectly. Bottom line is it's a great short that moves with you, dries fast, and has a low profile waist band that is great for under a sit harness. Only bummer is this season doesn't have blue anymore!
Will Backcountry be getting these shorts in other sizes (smalls
Will Backcountry be getting these shorts in other sizes (smalls and mediums) any time soon? I'd rather get them here than anywhere else, you know. Thanks in advance!
Chat results in: additional sizes coming in Spring 2011. Thanks Kretzky for pointing me in the right direction. I figured I could wait either way, but chat is definitely the way to go.
Ask a backcountry employee in the livechat pop up window, you'll get your question answered way quicker than waiting for an employee to find this question and answer you.
These are hands down my favorite shorts. You can really do anything in them. They are awesome for climbing on those hot and sunny days, great for lounging around, and they're light enough to feel great when worn on a longer run.
I love these. they're just short enough to be functional and along my style. They've weeded out other shorts I *used* to be in love with and are now the top choice for most outdoor use, and a lot of causal stuff too. I got the green, and like how it stands out
Do these have a drawstring or anything to stop them from coming
Do these have a drawstring or anything to stop them from coming off when you dive in the water? If not any other suggestions for a do it all short that would work in this setting (hiking, climbing, swim/surf)? Thanks!
Nope, gotta put your faith in the elastic band on these puppies..so if you want to wear them on land and sea they'll be great..if you dive however, well I just don't recommend doing that in these, unless you're going for the exhibitionist look when you emerge from the depths..sans Mojo shorts. For something like that you might be better off w the Stretch Zion, a cotton blend that will still dry pretty quick. Take a look:
These are solid shorts- I wear them in the gym lifting, running outside, climbing (of course), and have had two pair for over three years. They are still holding up nicely, and they are good board shorts in a pinch as they dry fairly fast.
I have two pairs of the mojos and I really don't like them. I know I'm going against the majority of the reviews but I find them uncomfortable and not durable. Within a week of buying them my first pair was having pulled threads. Within a couple of weeks of that the same pair had the elastic tear on the waistband. Nothing has happened to my other pair so maybe I just had a bad batch or something. I am not by any means abusive to my gear although I do climb 2-3 times a week and go backpacking every other week. I also don't like the fit (I find them two short) although maybe that's just me. The most annoying thing for me is that these have no stretch which I find very uncomfortable. I also find that the waistband tend to move up and cause discomfort. I find the fabric to be a little uncomfortable but once again that's probably just me. I just think that for a pair of shorts with a 40$ price tag they should be a little better.
Lately, it seems like the quality of Prana has declined some. But not these shorts. They're thin, light, and extremely comfortable, maybe the most comfortable shorts I've ever had--but also tough as nails. I've scraped them, dropped ash on them, swum in them, and no effects: they still look new. The fabric seems to slough off dirt somehow. And the elastic is still perfect. Just a great item. But Prana runs very small: size up.
i'm 6'1 160 lbs and the medium fits like heaven. I've been looking for a while for exacly the shorts i wanted and these are the ones. Could not be happier with them I got the rust witch is a lot more rust like color not depicted in the picture.. if you really want to know the true color go to the prana websit.
I like these shorts alot. Bought two pair. The material is pretty thin, so they stay cool. They aren't anything I would go to a party in, but good for casual around the house and hiking. Make sure you're underlayer provides good support, or they can be slightly revealing.
The inseam is a bit on the shorter side than i was expecting but these shorts have a decent elasticity to them and do not limit range of motion or crucial flexibility. I love the elastic waist-band and it isn't too constricting but just the perfect feeling that it will not irritate. Pockets are either nice and deep or velcro-closed so that you will not lose items. Overall I would highly recommend these shorts to another climber. Great product and way to go prAna.
These are great shorts. They did change the cut as some point over the last 3 or 4 years. The new cut is not as roomy but still nice. I find it rubs more on the front of my leg when high stepping. Still a great short.
No extra frills or pockets to weight you down. A medium inseam put these shorts just above your knee, and when combined with a gusseted crouch gives you a full range of motion without the binding up that you might get from a longer pair of knickers. The elastic waist also means you arent packing around the belt you used to keep them on for the approach when bouncing from route to route.
I have had three pairs of these over the years, the older ones seemed to be better, but even my most recent pair was purchased five years ago so I cant camment as to the quality of the new ones. However, these are simply the best shorts ever made. They are perfect for absolutely every activity. When I get home I put them on to lounge around. When I am hiking they feel perfectly light and agile. When I am trekking they are the only option with the stretch waistbelt witch prevents your backpacks hipbelt from pushing in on the more commonly found belted shorts and chafing your hips (if that makes any sense). When I am climbing in the gym or on the granite, either way I forget I am wearing anything. On a hot day they are amazingly light and work perfectly as a swim short. There is not a single negative thing to say about these shorts, they last forever! (I am wearing them right now)
Not a fan of the latest iteration of the Mojo. The old style with the white stitching were so GD PERFECT! The latest 'improvement' is like New Coke, pointless and horrific! I ordered a couple pair trying to like them but no go. Wait and see if they bring the old style back or improve these. If you don't know the Mojo history then maybe you'll be okay but I doubt it. Mine also came with a crease in them?? What the H!! Not stoked at all.
I originally bought these for swimming but have incorporated them into my summer hiking wardrobe. They are great because they dry very quickly and don't bunch up. The only problem I have had with them is that I am 5'9" and they are a little long. They fall just below my knee.
I'm 6'1" 200lbs and the XL are a perfect fit. The waist band is comfortable and the length is perfect as they fall to just above my knees. Can't wait to hit the trail with these on.
I love these shorts. They are easily the best short I have for those warm days hiking, climbing or even under my waders on those hot summer evenings on the river. I wear them all the time. They dry quick and are very soft. I love the waistband too, "at first it is constrictive but after a while it becomes a part of you". Garth Algar - Wayne's World
Have three pairs of these shorts and wear them literally every day...best shorts out there, do not retain stank that can accumulate after days at the crag sweating it out on your problem and are also nice enough to wear around during daily activities...a must have in every color
I have to disagree on the retaining stink part of your review. I love these shorts, as I said in my review, but man do these things stink after a good sweat or two.
Today is Tuesday. I bought these shorts on Saturday. I have worn these shorts every day since I bought them. They are the greatest. They are super lightweight and feel great. The low profile elastic waistband is awesome - I have been missing out all these years, with my typical cotton shorts and thick belts with (somewhat) heavy buckles. The pockets on these are mesh and deep, and hold a hell of a lot of stuff.
So far, I have walked around NYC on a 98º 90% humidity day, in relative comfort (as comfortable as one can be on such a day.) They have been paired with the Lululemon boxer brief, which is a great product, as well as the smartwool lightweight boxer - also great. Next, I bouldered in them, and they are much better than your run of the mill athletic shorts, thanks to the gusset crotch. Finally, I practiced Yoga wearing these shorts, and again, the gusset crotch proved invaluable to me.
I definitely plan to purchase more pairs of these shorts.
My only gripe, is the black color seems to really pick up and show all sorts of lint.
I use these for yoga & climbing. They are not restrictive at all and breathe very well. Ideal for warm yoga studios when wearing my pants is too uncomfortable. I hand washed them the first time, and they were very quick to dry. I look forward to backpacking and swimming in them this summer as well!
I am 32" waist & 166lbs, bought a large and they fit well...so as others have said, they run a little small. A medium would have fit, but the elastic waste band would have been stretched a little too much.
