POC Trabec Helmet
If you've ever felt that helmet designers placed too much attention on creating models that were too light and too aero for your tastes, then consider the POC Trabec Helmet. It's designed for mountain bikers or anyone who wants greater coverage over the ears and around the back of the head. The goal was to increase safety without sacrificing comfort and performance.
The Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet, and this way it envelopes more of your skull. The fit can be custom tailored, and since it offers more coverage, the potential for movement when your head strikes the ground is less than smaller helmets with less coverage. Thinking about the way we wreck on trails, there is a greater chance for a variety of trajectory -- forwards, sideways, even backwards. When you get crazy, crazy things happen. So to protect your brain you need to cover your skull.
POC builds the Trabec Helmet as a single layer system. It has a polycarbonate shell that acts as the first defense against impact energy. It spreads the impact across a greater area so that the EPS liner can further absorb and soften the blow and protect your brain. Inside the foam core is an aramid net. Its purpose is to hold the foam together and resist chunking under massive, high speed impacts (like rebar in concrete). It's designed as a multi-impact system, so the helmet can survive more than just a few connections with the terra firma.
POC punches sixteen large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. An adjustable visor also helps on those sunny days to protect your eyes from glare and bright skies. A size adjustment system at the back allows you to snug it down for a perfect and wiggle free fit.
The POC Trabec Helmet is Black/grey and is available in three sizes -- X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large. The pads inside are treated with Polygiene. It prevents bacterial growth, is eco-friendly, and is perfectly safe next to your skin. Since the bacteria can't grow on the pads, they'll last longer, require less cleaning, and smell way better.
- Aramid-reinforced EPS core provides protection and greater durability than tradition cycling helmets
- Extended side and rear coverage compared to traditional helmets for more complete head protection
- 16 shaped vents guides air in, and around the helmet for excellent cooling and ventilation
- Easy-to-adjust anatomic fit system holds helmet in place providing long-ride comfort
- Polygiene anti-odor wipe included to prevent a foul smelling helmet
- Adjustable visor helps to keep sun and mud from inhibiting vision

I can't find a reason not to give this helmet a five star.the fit around my cranium is superb.it is so light i tend to forget i have it on!the padding wraps around my forehead and channels sweat away from dripping to my eyes.this helmet also provides better coverage of my head-it increases confidence on the trail.
Worth the fit

Best fit ever. I have a narrow oval shaped 56cm head. Go by POC's sizing chart. The fit and coverage beat my previous Fox, Giro and Bell helmets. Venting is great and sweat in the eyes is minimal due to the well designed brow pad. The visor is effective. Outboard attached straps add to the package. Pricey yet worth it.

Lighter than you'd think

I've tried a lot of helmets, my last lid being the budget friendly Giro Hex which I loved. I expected a heavy lid but even with the added coverage it weighs about the same as other helmets in the price range. The fit is about the same as a giro helmet but slightly more narrow. Vents are big but they don't promote a lot of airflow over your head.
Great Secure Fit

This helmet fits great, is comfortable, vents well, stays in place extremely well, and has good coverage. The only con is the visor does not block winter sun well at 40 degrees north (although usually skiing this time of year). The fit was the selling point for me.
Can anyone give me the scoop on how these helmets fit... do they
Can anyone give me the scoop on how these helmets fit... do they run true to size, large or small? I'm at 59.6cm which says xl/xxl... seems big to me. Just curious.

Helmet looks cool, but doesn't fit my head very well. It seems like it would tip backwards easily, like the straps are mounted t0o far to the back. I was right at the upper end of the M/L, so maybe I'll try a XL, or maybe a Giro.
Best Helmet I have ever owned

The POC Trabec helmet is a great helmet. The chassis that fits to your head is a soft material that really makes it fit to your head. There are plenty of vents for ventilation. This helmet is cooler than my previous helmet by quite a bit (Fox Flux). And let's not forget that POC is always on the forefront of protection which provides piece of mind. I have a large head and I went with the XL/XXL. Just measure your head, the sizing chart is spot on.

This was my first mt. bike helmet and very happy. If you are between sizes, choose larger size. Very good ventilation, no pressure points, good adjustability of straps, looks excellent. Final: spend the money and get a great fitting helmet.
Great for big dome riders

I originally ordered the Urge Enduro-a-matic in the largest size it comes in. To my dismay, it didn't fit my big head. Luckily hucknroll had a sale on the POC Trabec, so returned the Urge helmet and basically did a straight up trade for a XL/XXL POC Trabec in black/grey.
Venting is great, def. an improvement over my old helmet, it's got 2 vents strategically placed under the visor so the air catches the visor and goes right into these 2 vents. The helmet comes with an extra set of pads(i think a thick pad and a thin pad), a nice bag to throw your helmet in(it's white for some reason though) to prevent it from getting damaged when not on your head. Some sweaty/stinky rides it doesn't smell like my old helmet did, which is a definite plus(it's got some sort of anti-smell treatment). That brings me to my only minus, as I mentioned before I ordered the Urge helmet originally and one of the big reasons was the the sweat channel it has on the front of the helmet to keep sweat out of my eyes. The POC doesn't have any sort of mechanism to keep sweat out of my eyes, so I gotta pony up and start riding w/a bandanna or sweat band, cause it's getting really annoying.
It is easy to adjust to get the right fitment and feels very secure on my head, not tight by any means(almost to the point of feeling like I don't need to clip the straps, obviously i am). Other than that sweat issue the helmet is great and I love it.
POC Trabec Helmet

First off let me say that I have used the Fox Flux and other Mountain bike helmets before trying out the Trabec. Most comfortable helmet I've ever used. Very good tightening system, similar to Fox's. Lookswise though, it takes some getting used to. Make sure you order the right size or else it will look absolutely huge. Other than that, no complaints. Great helmet so far.
