i am ok with the half-zip because i like pullovers anyway. no pit zips, only one internal pocket...i dont mean that there is only one pocket inside the jacket. i mean THERE IS ONLY ONE POCKET period and it happens to be inside the jacket. i am a little disappointed in patagonia in this jacket...i would assume that if they were going to call it the torrentshell pullover, that it would be the same jacket as the torrentshell, just with a halfzip. this is not the case, the pullover is a different jacket. i stay much warmer in the torrentshell pullover than in the torrentshell jacket. got this off SAC for 30 something i think. worth it at that price, but not for full retail.
This jacket has excellent water resistance and breathe. As I sit in the rain in the mountains and drink my tea, my jacket was breathing (from my back was a vapor), and the water rolls down like a duck's back. Hood of big and high, it can be easily regulate to suit your size. Internal layer of clothing was dry. I recommend this jacket to everyone.
should i go with a medium or a large? i have a patagonia nano
should i go with a medium or a large? i have a patagonia nano puff hoodie in medium and it fits just right. i would be using the torrentshell pullover over my nano puff for skiing. which size do you think would fit? I'm 6'3"- 170lb
I'd go for the medium if you want a more athletic fit and/or if you ever want to wear the jacket without the nano puff. It might be a bit tight in the arm pits. You and I share the same dimensions and a medium in Patagonia almost always fits me...with the exception of the DAS parka.
Used this jacket backpacking and climbing in Washington. Love the minimalist design. Other jackets are for sure more breathable and accessorized but this gets the job done and compresses nicely.
Has a Stoic Stash I had purchased on sale some time ago, however, it was misplaced somehow. Found a good price on the torrentshell, and though it'd give it a whirl.
while the breath ability numbers were lower, i didn't thing they'd be nonexistent. this thing breathes about as well as a plastic bag. I consistently felt hot and drippy when wearing it, and the half zip doesn't help much. Sure it's light, but extremely so. Held a seam free patch of the jacket up to my mouth, and tried to blow through as hard as I could... nothing.
overall the construction looks spiffy, but doesn't make sense. Looking at you single, internal only pocket) the zippers and cuffs feel sloppy.
do yourself a favor and spend the extra $30 on the Stoic Stash. you'll be super impressed.
It does not have pit zips. There are quite a few differences between the two jackets and I personally would recommend the $119 non pullover version with pit zips and hand pockets.
i was looking for a pullover for my husband. thought this one would be nice. it is a nice jacket - perfect except it doesn't have any pockets. also the size is deceiving. it definitely goes by the size you wear. put some pockets in it and i would purchase it again.
Made to keep you dry and stylish too.The hood is adjustable(just make sure it's raining and you're in the right neighborhood),if you know what I mean.I got the cilantro green one to keep with the go-green scheme of things now days.Besides,I like to roll stealth and besides Ms.Piggy likes green and lots of it!

Ok, sorry to ask so many questions at once, but I have this many... I noticed that the cuffs appear to be elastic rather than velcro on the pullover, and the pocket(s)?? are internal rather than external. 1) Are there 2 internal pockets in this pullover, or just one? 2) How does this pullover stow away? is it into one of the internal pockets? 3) Does it really have the elastic cuffs as depicted or is that from a previous year? 4) Are there hood cinch-ers like on the torrentshell jacket or not? 5) Is the sizing similar or is this one a little slimmer than the torrentshell jacket (it seems slimmer from the pictures).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very tall and thin, and fit a medium-sized R1 fleece pullover very well (6'4", 170lb) I hate baggy clothing, so am disinclined to go for a large, but have unfortunately long arms. Also leaving on a trip in 2 weeks, so a quick response (if possible) would b gr8.
1)The Torrentshell pullover has only one pocket 2)The whole jacket will stuff into this handy dandy pocket! 3)Pretty sure the cuffs are elastic. 4)The hood is 2-point adjustable and has Velcro to roll it up and hold it out of the way 5)I think you'll be OK in a medium, but a large will absolutely give you more coverage. At 10 oz it's not going to weigh you down much. If you can front the money, buy both a large and a medium, try them both on with whatever layer combinations you want to try, and send back the one you don't like. That way you KNOW which size will work, you only pay for one (shipping is the same) and it arrives in time for your trip!
Lightweight & packs down small....fine for 3 season camping. Buy it when its on sale....I prefer a longer length parka style, full zip, for those long grey rainy days of winter, head down trudging back to civilization.
This ideal for hiking for late spring/summer/early fall for when it rains out. It is lightweight so it won't add much to backpacking trips. The only pitfall is that it has just one pocket & no pit-zips, with that you can a little warm if you are overdressed. This is a secondary jacket, for myself it is fine.
If you want something for everyday, I get something a little thicker. For myself, I like it, I just use it during certain times of the year.
The Torrentshell would make a great cycling jacket, and as long as it's sized properly it'll give good coverage in the sleeves and at the waist to be comfortable on the bike in nasty conditions. I can help guesstimate your correct size if you want to post your height and weight?
Its good enough. It needs pockets, IMO. For the 3 or 4 times a year I get caught in a downpour, it'll do the job. Other than that, it packs up fine in the bottom of my pack. The price was right, and it does what its intended too. Its greatest feature is the radgnar colors offered.
Patagonia never fails to come to play and win! Patagonia makes an amazing jacket here in the Torrentshell. I bought this and then found out a friend of mine has had his for years and never had a problem. I am looking forward to years of amazing performance out of this pullover!
I like the jacket, a little small in the chest and mid torso (just under arms) compared to what I am used to. Pulling it on and off not too much of a problem, slightly difficult to pull it off, however it's really light so one could wear it both inside and outside. I would change the zipper flap to a half cover on each side or tape the zipper, the flap slightly annoying but you get used to it. The hood a tad small. Some really good features: the colour; nice and bright and love the shade, the cuffs, which is the prime reason I bought the jacket, the fit once its on, the packability, packs really small, smaller than anything I have seen, and how it protects from water. I tried it in the shower and the hood (while being a little small in horizontal length) did a great job in covering my head and face. Overall I would recommend this jacket.
