This feminine-cut jacket not only looks good on, but its breathable, quick-drying, stretchy fabric makes you extremely comfortable when you travel or hit the trail. The high-loft, lightweight fabric keeps you warm, and you can easily layer this jacket under your shell or wear it alone on warmer days. Is this jacket as warm as a regular fleece?

Fleece comes in a lot of different weights, so "regular fleece" can have a lot of different warmths. The point of the fabric on the R2 is that it provides more warmth for less weight. The fabric has a higher loft, which means that under a rain jacket or something, it'll be much warmer than a regular fleece of the same fabric weight, but by itself, it's not at all wind resistant. So potentially, it could be warmer, but it depends how you wear it.

at peace in my fleece

got a medium patagonia r2 fleece in black, 5'3, 132lbs. What can I say except I love it. It's warm, light weight. I wear in inside at work or when I am out at the bar, and I don't get a chill when I am outside. I wear it as a layering peace underneath my goretex when i go skiing. It looks good, i get complements on it all the time because it has a nice slim fit instead of a boxy look you get with other fleece jackets. The material has some stretch to it and the cut is so that when you raise your arms or bend your elbows it doesn't pull on the rest of your jacket. Medium is not too bulky, so it's easy to layer underneath other jackets, but because it has some stretch you could probably throw a few underwear layers or vest underneath. I'll post a photo later.

I absolutely love my new jacket! I got it in the lime green and the color is awesome. It fits very nicely and true to size too. I always get a small in shirts and jackets, which is what I ordered here, and it is perfect/ It is also light weight but warm at the same time. I reccomend this jacket to anyone who is considering buying it!

Great addition to the active life

I had a Mountain Hardware Monkey Jacket, which was warm but a little full in the body. This jacket is a similar fabric, but cut closer to the body, light & wonderfully warm. I'll use it hiking, biking and skiing.
It works beautifully with the H2No rain jacket, too.

Great layering piece...

I'm updating my original review. The first R2 I ordered fit very poorly. I sent it back, but then later got to thinking that maybe I just got a defective one, so I ordered another one. The fit was better, and I kept it. This jacket fits smaller than other Patagonia fleeces. It's a slim fit as advertised. The sleeves are just barely long enough for me, and the length is not quite as long as I'd like, but I ordered it for function, not style. As it is, it will make a nice, trim, packable layering piece. I plan to wear it under a puffy jacket and a Gore-Tex shell when traveling on my motorcycle, and I will also use it as an insulating layer when backpacking and camping. It's fairly light, yet warm, and since it's a trim cut, it's quite packable. If you're looking for a functional layering piece, this is a great choice. If you're looking for a nice looking fleece jacket for casual wear, I'd choose the Patagonia Re-Tool Jacket or the Arcteryx Covert Cardigan, as both are better looking than the R2.
