Waking up at five in the morning to a double-digit snow report means it’s time to zip up the Patagonia Men’s Powder Bowl Jacket and go catch some freshies. This 2-layer shell jacket features a guaranteed waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex membrane to ensure you stay dry in the wettest conditions, while the brushed polyester lining wicks moisture when you heat up.
Removable, 2 way adjustable storm hood spots a laminated visor to give you optimal protection no matter the weather
Adjustable and removable powder skirt keeps snow out
Interior webbing loops attach to any Patagonia ski pants to keep the jacket from riding up
Touch Point System utilized embedded cord locks in the hood and hem for quick adjustability on the go
Under arm vents dump excess heat
Slim zip instillation provides the ultimate in waterproof zippers without the added bulk or weight
Internal insulated media pocket lets you keep your tunes bumping
I`m surprised about a few reviews saying the jacket runs small, I think it is actually true for the size and has enough space for layering, it`s much bigger than my OR mentor jacket. I`ve used this jacket on snowing days, melting snow spring days and even rain. The jacket is very waterproof, but not perfect on breathability, I usually need to open the pit zips in the chair lift. The features are nice and it has a lot of pockets, maybe too much for my taste. THe powder skirt if great and will attach to any patagonia pants, I use it with the powder bowl pants and they work well together. A few bad things, the collar is too small and I can`t zip it all the way, the hood is somehow useless if you use helmet because it is not helmet compatible, it go over the helmet but it is very hard to first put it over a medium size helmet and also keep it over the helmet. The cuffs are large enough to to use gauntlet gloves under the cuffs, I`ve used hestra xcr mitt under the cuff with no problems, can`t do that with the Mentor jacket. I wouldn`t pay full price on this jacket but definitely a good piece if you get it on sale, I just had a few days on it, but it looks like a bomb proof piece, I had some really bad falls and no sign of wear/tear.
I have last year's Powder Bowl. Guess they added Gore-Tex
I have last year's Powder Bowl. Guess they added Gore-Tex this year? How much difference between this and Patagonia's H2No which is what I think they used before?
Haven't had a chance to wear this on the slopes yet. Been wearing it around town as a rain/cold weather jacket. I wear a large and this jacket is roomy, which will be great for layering when I ski. It's a definite step up from the Patagonia Snowshot. Look forward to see how it handles the wind at Heavenly. The gortex material seems rugged and I would imagine can handle all conditions well.
The Powder Bowl is a great jacket, but has a hung mesh liner for the interior. If breathability and not being too hot are your priorities a 3 layer jacket like the Patagonia Primo Jacket might be a better choice. Both are Gore-Tex and both are awesome. Hope that helps Rick.
I'm 5'9" 180lbs and the Medium fits like a glove. Long jacket and pow skirt prevent snow from getting in. Gore Tex keeps me bone dry. Jacket is great for layering, light weight, and well constructed. Patagonia didn't disappoint with this one.
It depends if you plan on wearing a lot of layers underneath. If you layer a lot, then I would recommend the Large.
If you never need any more than a thin layer between your base and shell, then the Medium will probably work for you. It'll be a relatively fitted feel (not baggy), but it should fit just fine.
I got this jacket specifically for my backcountry kit. It is pretty light, and the GoreTex keeps you nice and dry and the wind out. It also has a pretty slim fit, especially for a jacket. I'm 5 10", 150 lbs. and the small fits me absolutely perfect. The only downside to that is it doesn't leave too much room for layering, but a base layer or 2 and my patagucci down vest fits just fine underneath.
That being said, I would not recommend this jacket for skiing groomers on really cold days at a ski area or any situation where you aren't generating a good amount of body heat and would need lots of insulation or lots of layering. The fit is a bit tight I guess but it suits my build fine. If you are thick or lift lots of weights I would definitely try a couple sizes on before ordering it. I rated the jacket 4 stars because I haven't had the chance to test it in a super heavy storm yet.
Mostly quality construction but really strange fit. It's very, very fitted, like a men's dress shirt - very odd for active wear. I'm 5'11, 160 lbs and the medium is entirely too small, but the sleeves on the large are way too long.
My other gripe? Patagonia's insistence on using the smallest and cheapest zippers. They always snag, the teeth bend, the zipper pulls are tiny and impossible to grip with gloves. They insist on using these on all their garments and I just don't get it.
Excellent quality and design. The only problem was that the fit was not quite right for me. At 6-5 240 the XXL was the perfect length but it was a bit too constricting through the back/shoulders as I prefer a looser fit. Returned without any problems.
