Youre standing still in freezing weather for an hour while your partner struggles on vertical ice above. Good thing you have the plush, toasty Norrøna Mens Lyngen Down Jacket. Thanks to the high-loft 750-fill down insulation and a full-wrap hood, this Norrøna jacket helps you keep from freezing to death when mountain weather turns nasty. The Lyngen Down Jacket also makes it in well under the two-pound mark, so you wont be tempted to leave it behind when you head for the top.
Backcountry.com is the exclusive US retailer for Norrøna products
Weight to warmth ratio is terrible, everyone of my Arcteryx insulated jackets is warmer than the Norrona, let alone my Patagonia down jackets, I have tried down to 0C.
Do you know who Dane is? On this topic of spending... Do you have any idea how much free information Dane gives out to the climbing community? He's full of advice that few are able to give and is one of the most down to earth guys out there. Backpackinglight.com would make you buy the quality of reviews that he does. He answers questions that people give him from all around the world. I can't tell you how much of his gear he buys himself, but if you read his blog its not like companies are throwing everything they have at him - he still has to buy a ton of gear himself! He's a climbing professional with enough time to help out those of us that are still working our way up to that level.
I am always leery about this kind of glowing reviews written by these sponsored climbers. The reviewer should declare how they get the jacket, paid by himself, a gift from his mum, or a paid vendor.
Nic, No abnormal loss of down and no loose threads....on mine. Typical of any down garment a few actualy feathers (not down) will work their way out quicky and then it stops.
I still think it is one of the best jackets made. Only reaon I dropepd in tonight was to look at the heavier version.
Great return policy here if you are unhappy with the jacket.
In the few short days that I have had this jacket, I have noticed that feathers consistently come out of the jacket and loose threads pop up all of it. You have had this jacket for almost a year now, how has it held up for you? Have you noticed loose threads?
Costs? Reasonable request. I address that in several places on my blog. Like most I pay retail for every Norrona product and all the rest of the gear I buy at BC.com :) In fact the current sale price is $100 less that what I paid for my green Lyngen shown in the photos from 2 years ago. Tempts me to buy another.
Basically, the Norrøna Lyngen Down Jacket - Men's is more oriented towards ski mountaineering and the Norrøna Trollveggen Down 750 Jacket - Men's is more tailored to the big wall climbs, expeditions and ice climbing in the coldest conditions possible. The Lyngen is a lighter jacket, but the Trollveggen will be slightly warmer and more durable.
Feature wise, the Trollveggen and Lyngen share most of it except for the Trollveggen has an internal pocket and a cinching hem cord while the down chambers are stitched through on the Lyngen to create less cold spots. I hope this answer helps you out.
Just got this in the mail. Awesome jacket. Lightweight, nice big hood that will fit a helmet and one internal mesh pocket. I am 6 feet 1 and about 185 pounds and the Large is perfect fit with all my layers under. There is also Primaloft insulation under the arms and down the sides for a more streamlined fit. Can't wait to get out and abuse it :p
Hey Dane. Your best bet for a quick answer on BC product stocking will be to click on the "Chat Now" button at the top of the page. That will connect you with a BC representative who can answer you question. Hope this helps.
Everything you want in a down nothin you don't. this jacket is supper warm soft and cozy. I have fallen asleep in it on multiple occasions, im 5 ten and 160 pounds and the small fits me but i also fit the medium the bottom line when its Jackson hole christmas time cold the Norrona lygen down jacket is what you want
I am only looking at this jacket if it can handle extreme Denali
I am only looking at this jacket if it can handle extreme Denali conditions. Does it have internal water bottle pockets to help keep my liquids liquid in the extreme alpine?
Can this jacket handle intense wear and tear with a heavy Denali pack on?
You planning to climb all the way up Denali with this big down jacket on??? Personally, I think this jacket hits a good balance of weight vs. warmth and durability, for Denali. But you could get something similar for cheaper, I think. You're paying a lot extra for the (albeit cool) Norrona name.
Just came to work in -1 degree Fahrenheit. All i had was a t-shirt on under this jacket and I wasn't cold whatsoever. Very lightweight too. I couldn't be happier with the Norrona Lyngen. The Amazon Green rocks too.
so i'm tall, fairly lanky (6'4 170) - is this long enough
so i'm tall, fairly lanky (6'4 170) - is this long enough at the hem? If it's anything like patagonia's I'll steer clear. PS, I wear a large. XL has always been way too baggy
I cant speak for this jacket, but Im the same exact build you are (6'4", 175 lbs), and I actually purchased Marmot's 8000M Parka. It's pretty bulky, but by far the best coat Ive found and it fits great. Not a bad review on it out there.
The photos don't show just how good the hood is. It's adjustable at the back via a drawstring, bringing the hood back off your face. The protection the neck area of the jacket provides when zipped up is awesome. There's no way cold air is getting in through there. Also, the jacket is extremely lightweight. Yes it squishes into its own pocket for ease of packing down. My only gripe and it's a small one, is the pocket lining. The lining is the same material as the outside so not very warm to the touch. My NF Nuptse down vest has a lovely warm pocket lining that I wish was on this jacket too. This is my first Norrona product and it's very impressive. They look like a brand you can trust.
You can always try ordering direct from norrona.com. I just ordered the blue in small and it took pretty much 1 week exactly for it to arrive. The shipping's pretty cheap also. Hope you get it man, it's a pretty sweet jacket.
I usually get atleast 1 outer layer a year, of some sort. I moved to Keystone, CO this fall and quickly needed to invest in a trusty everyday outer layer, as wool coats weren't doing it. Through reviews and the plain common sense that Europeans, especially Scandanavians, know how to design outdoor clothing I bought this awesome jacket and I couldnt be more satisfied with it. I'm 5'11, 165 lbs and the small is perfect. I can layer if I want, it fits great either way and I get compliments all the time! The high collar and stiff rim on the hood make it perfect for blustery conditions. I wear it to ski and just casually most everyday. I've never been cold and it sheds snow great like on my walk home today through a blizzard!
So I have had mine for about a year and noticed issues with the zipper about a month into it.... Now into beginning of its second season and the zipper is about to become busted. I know reverse coils are used frequently on these down pieces but heard tend to wear out fast. Maybe Norrona should use something else. For the price you pay the zipper shouldn't be an issue already. Otherwise I do love it just a pain that the closure is problematic. Not sure if anyone else is dealing with the same....
This jacket arrived today. Excelent construction and it looked great. Even with a T-shirt on, outside in 50 degree weather, I was cooking. The material feels great and the down is generous. With the hood up, I can't imagine ever being cold in this coat. One caveat and unfortunately a deal breaker for me; whoever designed this jacket had a poor sense of anatomy. Specifically the sleeves are attached to the shoulders in such a fashion that the seams ride up into the arm pits. It doesn't matter how little or how much you are wearing underneath. I really wanted to keep this jacket but I'm not a big believer in tolerating this level of discomfort in the name of fashion.
I took this jacket up with me on Denali last year and was really warm all the way to the top. Great jacket super light for how warm it is and packs down very small. Could ask for a better down jacket for extreme conditions. I use it mostly for Alpine and Ice climbing missions. I have used Many different down product through the years but this jacket and Norrona's other insulating jackets are by far the best ever!
I'm 6'3", 200lb's, 33" waist. I bought this jacket recently in a Large, perfect fit and love it but now want to buy a good waterproof shell to go over the top of it for skiing in very cold and often wet weather. Something with a hood to fit over a helmet and a powder skirt and something that will take a beating. I'd love to hear any reccommendations on the best jacket to get and the size I would need. Thanks.
Hi Clark. If i where you, i would look at one of the Arc'teryx GoreTex-SoftShell jackets. They are waterproof, windproof, breatheble and is made for skiing. Look at the Stinger/Stingray models, maybe others :)
I bought this about 3 months ago. I wear this thing out anytime I know I will be standing around in under 20 degree weather. Features I like: elastic bands on cuffs so you don't have to mess with velcro. DWR coating. Side primaloft for enhanced breathability. Adjustable Hood. One thing I don't like: Visor of hood is not nice and malleable like Arcteryx. Instead the front has a wire in it which you have to bend every time to get a nice curvature. I'm afraid the wire will poke through the fabric after awhile.
I am 6.6 and 240 pounds and the xxl fits perfectly. I like the jacket but it has 2 major design problems. The material at the forearms should be reenforced after 3 weekends of heavy use I was having little holes in the fabric just from friction. Generally this jacket looses down every time I was stepping of my car I could see them laying on the car seat.
The product is not bad but needs to be improved. Hope somebody from Norrona reads the comment.
Hi! Regarding the strenght of the fabric, we find it to be the best fabric we have found, on durability vs weight. For the down jacket we have put a priority of getting it as packable and light as possible, and give as much warmth to weight. The trollveggen down750 jacket has a stronger fabric. Regarding the leakage of down. THis is improved on the products that is in sales now.
I've spent plenty of time in this jacket already. It's hat like brim and no fluffy down puffing out of the jacket, this was my first experience with this brand and i will totally come back for more.
Pricey but worth every penny! The quality is definitely there. Super light and love the synthetic fill on the underarm, providing less bulk and retaining heat better when things get wet in there. Fits great also for those with long arms and torso.
Perfect fit, length, height of pockets, warmth but hood so oddly shaped could not get past it.Actually opted for Mountain Gear Sub-Zero which cost 100$ less.
I just received mine. The fit is a bit tight in general which is alright. What is not alright is how the shoulder/sleeve is shaped. Whoever created this jacket must not have had armpits because this portion of the coat actually feels like it is cutting off my circulation. The rest of the coat is wonderful. I wore it for 5 minutes in the house with only a T-shirt on and I ended up sweating like I had just finished working out. From what I can tell this coat will provide maximum warmth on very cold days, maybe to warm for downstate New York weather. Love this coat but the arm pit issue may be a deal breaker.
and i did my homework. i had over 5 of the top down jackets sent my way. top of line north face, marmot, patagonia and more. i spent over $2000 having backcountry ship them all to me and i sent back all the losers. this jacket one. ergonomics, great hood, thickest amount of down. (oh yeah, also had montbell ship me their best too).
i took it to london 3 weeks ago. compresses great. and with a arcteryx shell over it, i was the only guy outside in sub zero temperatures while it was bilizzarding. AND I WAS TOTALLY WARM. if you want a great jacket you can simply slip a t-shirt under and go out to the artic, this is it.
