Norrøna Lofoten Hybrid Soft Shell Jacket - Men's

Item # NRA0003

When you have to hike for fresh turns, you want the Norrona Men’s Lofoten Hybrid Soft Shell Jacket on your back breathing as hard as you are. This jacket’s 2-layer soft shell fabric repels wind, protects you from light spring squalls, and transfers moisture from your stinky ass into thin air faster than you can say “I’m a sweaty bastard.” This coat also stretches and flexes as you move, making it ideal for active endeavors like climbing, skiing, and climbing to ski.

Anybody knows if an XL would fit a tall, skinny person (6'6" 190 lbs). I have a couple North Face products in XL and they fit pretty good. Is Norrona comparable in size?

Thank you Elise. I bought the XL before I saw your comment. And it fits ok. You are right about the sleeves they are cut long. And a Large might have been enough. But I will keep the XL so I can wear a few layers.

Hey Richard,
If you are comparing it to North Face I will say this..It runs similar in sizing, but is cut longer in the sleeves and torso. Id say unless you have really long arms you could get away w a large.

GREAT Softshell!

This softshell seems to me to be an extremely high quality softshell. It does everything a softshell is supposed to do, better than most can.

1. Breathability. The breathability on this jacket is amazing. I can wear it on a 15 degree day or a 45 degree day, hiking/touring or inbounds at a resort and I rarely get too hot or too cold. I rarely feel sweaty (even though I am a sweaty guy). The jacket is awesome.

2. Warmth. This jacket definitely provides more insulation than a standard shell jacket. That being said, it is very breathable, and the design in the fleece grid inside allows the jacket to only be warm when it needs to be.

3. Water Resistance. I live in Utah so our snow is not too wet. I have used this jacket in full on blizzard conditions for multiple days in a row. The outside of the jacket just BEGINS to wet out after this, but none of the moisture ever seems to make it through. The collar can also freeze if you breathe into it for too long, since the moisture will permeate the fabric somewhat easier than if it were a shell.

4. Stretch. This jacket combines 2 different types of softshell material. The Top color (generally darker) is less stretchy and more waterproof. The Bottom color (generally lighter) is much more stretchy, but less waterproof. On the waterproofing section I mentioned that sometimes the jacket can start to wet out, it is generally on this lower color that it happens. The jacket is very stretchy and wants to move with you.

5. The jacket is waist long. It also fits somewhat snug. My XL fits like a L in most other brands. I also wish the jacket had a slightly longer fit.

6. Zippers. The zippers seem to be waterproof and they are very high quality. They function easily and rarely get caught up on fabric.

XL. I'm 6'1" and would still wear an XL in Norrona if I wanted the room, L if I wanted to look like an old ski patrol guy.

Many Features

Used it for two days of skiing in CO. Had some cold windy mornings and sunny spring afternoons. Using only a light merino base layer it was chilly on am chairlift rides up. Great jacket when the sun came out, breathing very well. The softshell is super soft and stretchy light they say and it seems pretty durable, time will tell. It doesn't have standard hand pockets which takes some getting used too, but I'm finding is really not needed. Also it has built thumb loops which you can put your hand through without using, but a little awkward. I like them when actively using the coat, but a pain just around town. Great active soft shell, not the best for causal around town.

Does anyone know how well this jacket stands up to the wind?

Does anyone know how well this jacket stands up to the wind? I'm looking for a non-Arc'teryx softshell that could be used for climbing.

Not very windproof. Skied in CO last weekend and I could feel the gusts coming through, only had a light merino base layer on though. It is super breathable though, I was loving it in the afternoon sun. The coat is stretchy as they say which would be nice for climbing.
