The form-fitting Mountain Hardwear Women's Sarafin Cardigan serves up classy style for your everyday errands and late-night outings. This full-zip, track-jacket-style sweater features raglan sleeves for natural arm movement, and a stand-up collar gives the Sarafin a graceful look. Wear this wool-and-synthetic blend sweater beneath your winter parka - for warmth and comfor for you.
Bottom Line:
The Mountain Hardwear Sarafin Cardigan layers comfortably into your winter wardrobe.
I have a 35-year collection of awesome ski sweaters, and this one will be added to the top of the list of favorites. Lightweight, yet warm, it fits well under my form-fitting ski jacket. I wore this sweater over a layer of light wool undies with a soft-shell jacket on top in 20-degree weather for a hike, and I was almost too warm. Order a size larger than you might otherwise. I'm 5'9", 155 pounds, with a size C (almost D) cup size, and the XL was perfect.
This sweater is adorable - fitted and trim. BUT, the XS is really an XXS (toothpick arms and armholes) - compared with the Small, which is rather like a Medium (blousy arms, long sleeves, and full bust). There is no size that fits me! My biggest complaint about Mountain Hardwear brand is their sizing inconsistencies...this sweater was returned.
I saw this sweater in a different store with a bright light blue
I saw this sweater in a different store with a bright light blue neck-liner instead of the blue/grey shown here. Is that a different generation of the sweater, or just a trick of the light in the photo?
After I first bought the Port, my mother rushed out and bought one in Blue (both colors not available here). Im buying my second in Pine. An easy casual layer. Lightweight, no bulk, but still cuts the chill. Its an all-around great form-fitting cardigan sweater without being too tight. Im 5 10, tall and lean, and this piece gives enough length without being too tight in the chest. I bought a Medium and Im a 34DD.
This wool sweater looks great -- and has a soft, fleecy lining that makes it very, very comfortable.
Not bulky at all and the fit is very flattering (follows your body). Fits true to size: I'm 5 foot 1 inch tall and weigh 123 pounds and the small fits just right. Stand up collar makes it a great look for the office (the collar is more of a stand-up style than in the picture). I wear this sweater by itself (without a T-shirt underneath).
The sweater has great styling, but the sizing is screwy...the Small is too big all over and the XSmall is too small in the arms and armholes. I wish Mountain Hardwear would make its garments true to size! Sizing inconsistencies make it really hard to buy their items online.....this site is great about the buying/returning thing.....
The fit is snug in the arms. I am usually a size small and this fits me perfectly if I only wear a tissue t-shirt beneath. I have the expresso which is a rich nut brown tweed with an orange collar. The Mtn Hardware signature is so low and hard to see that this cardigan is barely worth the price tag. I prefer a two way zipper but there is some give to the material so it doesn't bunch up when sitting. It's too casual for my office. With a thin shirt underneath it makes the cardigan wearable only in the fall as it's not warm enough for the WI winters. I wouldn't wear this without a shirt as the wool is just slightly picky. If your arms are slim this is actually a classy light sweater for fall.
Title says it all - wonderful, flattering stylish, but sizing is very inconsistent, and too big a jump between sizes. XS is VERY small, but Small is too big all over. Too bad. This site makes returns easy, tho.
Arms are long so I have rolled cuffs. Love the fabric and the contrast lining. Torso is long enough. I wear it in or out. Warm but not bulky; perfect for Louisiana winters. Yes, I wear a tee underneath too.
blue is a great color to go with denim, not bright. Collar lining is bright blue. The brown is a warm, heathery brown with orange collar lining. I am a texture person so appreciate the 2 ribbed fabric on the arm pocket vs. the smooth fabric of the torso. Nice touch.
Warning!!! I ordered the black one and its GREEN. I don't see anywhere in the product description that indicates that its as much kelly green as it is black. I can't comment on the sizing because I didn't even take it out of the wrapping once I saw it was green. Very disappointing and back in the mail it went. And I'm out for the cost of the return shipping.
Great sweater, great color, waaay too small. I'm a Women's Size 0-1. I have a Mountain Hardwear jacket that is a size XS, which fits perfectly, and perhaps a little loose. I figured that sizing would be consistent among Mountain Hardwear products, and ordered an XS Sarafin Cardigan, but unfortunately, the XS is SUPER small. Oh well. Luckily backcountry.com accepts returns. Nice sweater though. That pocket on the arm is such a great feature, especially when travelling. the fact the sweater isn't bulky is another benefit while travelling--reduce bulk & weight and maximize possibilities for layering. Bummer about the size.
I actually found this sweater to fit great! Although, I am on the "fun-size" side (5' 3"), so maybe that's why I didn't have any problems with the torso length. I found it to fit like all the other Mountain Hardwear items. I've washed it and worn it twice now. I love it!
The Mountain Hardware Sarafin Cardigan is my favorite warm shirt. I wear it over a shirt because it's a little too warm to wear in the office but it's perfect for our current cool mornings and evenings. It fits more tightly than the Mountain Hardware Sarafin Sweater so the styling through the body is more accentuated and you can still get clean lines even if you wear it unzipped over a tank top. The arms are a bit long if you're a petite, like me, but the material is thin enough that you can push the sleeves up without uncomfortable bunching. The material on the collar is soft but the rest of the shirt can occasionally be slightly itchy. If you have sensitive skin you might want to consider wearing a bottom layer underneath it.
I just received this sweater. I'm 5'8", 145 lbs and ordered an XL as I tend to prefer my sweaters with a slightly looser fit. This sweater fits nicely in the body and shoulders, but the arms are extremely long. I have really long arms and usually have an issue with sleeves being too short. But this sweater is completely the opposite. I will just have to wear it with the cuffs rolled up a couple of inches.
I found the sizing a bit weird on the Mountain Hardwear Sarafin Cardigan at first, but after a few wears, it fits perfectly - no more super thin arms. I am 5"1', 113 and wear the S. The fit is very flattering, and even works well for work.
I guess I'm lucky to not have the sizing issues mentioned in other reviews. I find the material to be perfect - warm but not heavy or bulky, the style is extremely flattering, and I really like the 'sleeve pocket' which I use all the time.
