I love this jacket. from the second i got it from UPS. Silky smooth on the inside and durable on the outside. Super lightweight and warm (never HOT). I live in Seattle and this winter has been wet in all the wrong ways. This jacket has handled it all without a moment of doubt. I am 6'0/190 and the large fits like a glove. sleeve length is prefect. The best part by far is the Dry Q Elite. When they say it breathes without humidity they are right. I never get too hot in this jacket. To test it I wore it at work (indoor office work) one night. Zipped up with a cotton t-shirt under. I was never too hot or even sweating. It is truly amazing how it works. I have used jackets that needed to be unzipped when active and this is the complete opposite. I believe DryQ Elite is the standard by which all jackets should be measured. Now for water proofing it continues to amaze me. Warm on the inside and can shed water like rain-x on the outside. coming in from a down poor - simply give it a shake and viola dry. I encourage everyone to get DryQ Elite from MH. Gravitor is just MH's entry level jacket but is a great steal for the price on BC.com beats some equally priced low end columbia jacket at the sporting goods stores by miles.
sickasadog. This jacket has 80grams of Thermic Micro synthetic insulation packed in to its baffles. Thermic Micro is very similar in construction to Primaloft PL One in that it is a short staple insulation with similar qualities. One thing that differs is that Mountain Hardwear uses a little more silicon in the insulation to make it slide against its self for better feel, performance, and better stuffing overall. The neck part is a little loose, so the wind is easy to blow in when riding a scooter at 50MPH without tightening the hood. Micro-Chamois-lined chin guard is only for the zipper. No lining for the left and right cheeks. I'm 5'8" 198lbs and an L fits perfectly without additional layer. The sleeves are not too long compares to the Drystein jacket. The drawcord holes on the hood are not covered. My Outdoor Research jacket does better on this part. I won't get sweat while I'm eating a hot meal indoors with this jacket, so I think the breathability is great.

I just purchased this jacket to replace my old gravitor with conduit. I can definitely attest to the fact that the DryQ is significantly better in both waterproofing and breathability. Not that conduit was bad, but this is just incredible. This is the new version on here, and on steepandcheap lately (where I got mine). Also just realized moments ago that this is not called "gravitator"

manuelhernandez. Yes, the DryQ Elite does offer a higher level of performance. It is waterproof (40K), Breathable (35K), and Air Permeable (.05 CFM) The Conduit Membrane, while good, did not offer this level of performance.
Also, a quick note. It looks like they have both the old version (last year) and the newer version represented on this page. Stylistically, the red is the current version and the blue and black are last years version.

Well I was not sure about this jacket but it does deliver warmth wise. I have not used it yet in extreme conditions but I have a good feeling about it. Pros: well built, warm and breathable
Cons: no powder skirt and a tad tight under the arms and the hood may get on my nerves since not removable but I knew that buying into it.
I am not sure what is up with Mountain Hardware and sizing but at 1st I ordered a M (I am 5.11 and 180 pounds) which is what is recommended on their web site but then switched to L (since I owned a L Synchro jacket that is also tight). The L fits me just right minus the under arm area (a bit tight as mentioned earlier but still able to move around freely).

This coat has lots of great features for cold weather activities. The attention to detail is typical of Mountain Hardwear, including waterproof zippers, great seams, above-average water repellant, etc. The Conduit fabric feels so soft that it's hard to believe it's so water repellant and durable. I like that it's made to endure the wear and tear of a backpack.
It feels lighter and fluffier than I expected, and it's very comfortable to wear. The cut is athletic. I'm athletic, 6'2" 220lbs with broad shoulders, and an XL fits perfectly w/ enough room for layers underneath but not too baggy without them.
It's only missing one thing to be "five stars." Since I'm so hot-blooded, I really wish it had pit zips. This thing breathes well enough that eliminating sweat isn't the problem; pit zips would just help me stay cooler when the climb gets steep.

I ordered the blue one and the design is like in the photo of the red jacket. Major disappointment, since the one I got does not have cuffs with thumb holes. Also, the lighter blue color is very bright. I chatted with a sales rep about this and I'm surprised to see that a week later they still haven't updated the photos (MH website has them).

Yep, love the jacket. It is wind proof and lightly insulated. It was 8 degree out and I had a tshirt and sweater on and I was toasty, at least the area covered by the jacket. I would recommend it. No snow skirt if this is important to you.

I'm not familiar with the Rebar Ripstop AXF Conduit material, how waterproof / windproof is that compared to Gore-Tex? given its waterproof rating of 20K (sorry I'm not familiar with these ratings).
jazzejohn. Mountain Hardwear's Conduit material used in the Gravitor Jacket is completely waterproof and breathable and compares favorably to GoreTex. Conduit is one of many monolithic PU based laminates and coatings on the market from all the brands that are used to make jackets waterproof and breathable. A few examples would be: Membrane (Marmot), HyVent (TNF), H2No (Patagonia), etc.etc. GoreTex is composed of something called expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and has different properties than PU but is as waterproof as PU if not more so. Other polytetrafluoroethylene's or PTFE based laminates on the market are eVent (Rab, REI, amongst others) and Epic which have been gaining in popularity over the past few years... especially eVent. Look for many more offerings of PTFE fabrics coming out in the coming months and years!
The 20K number comes from a waterproofing test known as the "Inverted Cup Test", which is an industry standard. Almost all of the brands use this test for waterproof-ness except for GoreTex who rate their waterproof-ness based on a PSI (pounds per square inch) of water on the fabric. If Gore was measured via the inverted cup test, depending on the fabric, it would come in around 38-40K. Practically speaking, the "Industry" calls anything above 10K waterproof... which it is.
AXF refers to a special DWR (Durable Water Repellent Finish) that is applied to the exterior of the fabric in the Gravitor and other Mountain Hardwear jackets. This is the finish the makes water droplets bead up on the outside of most jackets. The cool thing about our DWR is that it is durable up to 80 washings. Most DWR's in the industry are only good for about 20 washings before you have to re-treat the garment.
