Mountain Hardwear Epic Jacket - Men's - 2009 BCS
Though the Mountain Hardwear Men’s Epic Jacket weighs a ridiculous 14oz, it still provides the excellent weather protection of an Ark Ripstop shell and Conduit Silk laminate. While this softshell breathes like a champ on a grueling approach, it also fights off nasty snow when the weather turns ugly. Even at such a low weight, Mountain Hardwear still managed to add a chest pocket and two underarm zips.

I am 5'10" and 165lbs and I want to know if a medium would be too small for me.

I bought this and the Octans fleece together. It's the best layering combo I've found for the rain and moderate cold. I live on the Washington Coast and the Epic has been awesome. One of the main features I really love is the way the hood adjusts. Other rain jackets don't seem to "get it right". This one has a 1 pull tightening system and the hood just fits, allowing the semi-rigid visor to sit perfectly above your eyes. The way you roll the hood into the jacket and velcro down may be less desirable for some people, but I found the system works great for me and looks good when the hood is put away.
The material has stayed nicely waterproof and is comfortable to wear as an only jacket. I've been in 50 mph winds with storm rain and didn't get wet or uncomfortable at all.
I'm 5'10, 205 and the XL fits great.
I also have a North Face Venture and I like this just a bit more. It's definitely become my every day coat.
