Awesome Puffy

By:
April 27, 2012

I started guiding with the Millet Down Alpine Jacket last spring and have effectively taken it through a season of guiding, travels in Africa and back again. The first time I wore this jacket it was -10 with a wind chill of -20 degrees. I was preparing dinner when it dawned on me that I had yet to try my new Millet Alpine Down Jacket. So I pulled it out of its stuff sack and zipped into a wonderful world of warmth. I was sold. I am a larger person struggling to find jackets that fit, however this jacket was perfect, fitting over my shell when needed and the hood over my helmet. It is so light it is in my pack when ever I am out on my adventure, even in Africa.

Down Alpine Jacket

By:
April 26, 2012

Does everything! I seem to always be cold and this jacket has served me well for the last year. Pretty sure I wore it around the house everyday this last winter and I was comfortable in it, then I take it to the mountain and even when it was 4 degrees outside all I had on was this and a long sleeve shirt underneath it; still warm!

My first impression with the fabric wasn't great, but it's held up to a lot of abuse. When the down shifts I throw it in the dryer with no heat and 2 tennis balls and it comes back out like it was new.
my only complaint is that I have to end up cinching the elastic waist a lot cause the closures aren't super strong.

Bottom line: Love it! Go buy one!

My friend sells both Millet coats at his outfitter store in New York and both coats are very firm, puffy and light @ 480 grams even though the quality of the down is only 700. The fill weight of the down I don't know but the closest comparison I could make was to the Ama Dablam or North Face Elysium. However the Millet outer shell and puffy down firmness factor was better.

150 Days later....

By:
April 26, 2012

I've put in over 150 on mountain days in this jacket. The coldest temps some where around -25F and this jacket has done superbly every day of it. It's super light weight and compactable for it's warmth.

In all that time I have only had one "complaint". The company label pealed off so you can't tell the brand. I figure if that is the worst thing I can say about a down jacket after that much time it's a pretty good jacket.

The jacket is the one on the right. Photo is taken from the summit of Split mountain on the Eastern Sierra.
