Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's - 2007 BCS
The Marmot Women's PreCip Jacket is legendary. It protects you from Mother Nature's wiles with lightweight waterproof Precip fabric, and it's so light and packable, it won't take up much space in your backpack as a just-in-case shell. Marmot's Angel Wing Movement gives you plenty of room in the arms and chest and a women's specific fit prevents that boxy look. Underarm vents circulate air to keep you cool, and an adjustable hood provides shelter when you need to batten down the hatches.

Every time I put it on the velcro sticks to something - either my sweater, gloves, or another part of the jacket. Having velcro on the front zip, pockets, and sleeves is a little much. (Also the back of the hood, but I don't think this has been a problem.) I haven't gotten to try it out in a downpour, yet, so I'm not sure how it performs. I got the large for layering and my climber shoulders, even though I usually get a medium. I'm happy with the size. It doesn't look like I'm swimming in it, but it has some room.

I've had this jacket for a couple of years now and it has its ups and downs. Once wet, it dries very quickly upon returning indoors. Also, It is extremely lightweight and packable. It works well as a wind break when worn over a fleece. However, in long term rainy weather, it eventually lets water in. The most disagreeable aspect of the fabric is that if I am wearing just a tank top or t-shirt underneath, the fabric sticks to my skin and I don't like how it feels. The jacket could stand to have a bit of a mesh liner perhaps to improve this discomfort.
