Marmot Midweight Crew - Men's - 2007 BCS

Item # MAR0990

The Marmot Men's Midweight Crew Long Sleeve top has a bit of stretch built into the Polartec Power Dry fabric for all your active winter pursuits. As you hike, ski, or climb, it also wicks moisture away from your body so you don't get clammy and, subsequently, cold. Cocona Performance technology also fights odors all winter long.

Bottom Line:

Funk-free, provided you shower from time to time.

Great Shirt

By:
January 9, 2012

I got this and an unnamed REI midweight shirt for Christmas. One of them had to go back, and it wasn't going to be this guy. This is very soft for a polypro top, comparably to my favorite cotton hoodie, but performed much better. It's thin enough to still be able to layer, but you don't really need to that much. I would easily compare the fabric to other heavy-weight fleeces.

I'm in love

Absolutely love this base layer. Not only is it plenty warm when combined with a lightweight fleece and shell on colder days, but it wicks away moisture very well and keeps you dry when sweating hard on a long tour in warm weather. I'm 5'10" & 215lbs and felt the XL fit true to size, however, the area around the neck is a bit looser than I would like. Sleeve length seemed to be perfect.

great cool weather baselayer

By:

Great midweight baselayer. Not the most "stink proof" shirt I've ever owned, but it's pretty decent. Wore it alone for a week in the Smokies with a light fleece and Columbia shell with temps in the 30's and I was plenty worn. We'll see how good it breathes this summer once it warms up a bit.

Cozy shirt

By:
February 29, 2008

I have the zip-T version of this shirt and it seems I hardly take it off. I wore it for a 40 mile backpacking trip, washing it in streams, I wear it around town, and it is a great night shirt worn to bed. Though it is a synthetic fabric it feels more like wool and has that fuzziness feel to it.

Overpriced like a lot of "technical" stuff, but this is the kind of thing you pick up on sale. I've never been let down by anything made by Marmot, and I hardly understand why this brand isn't ballyhooed about more often.

It should be similar in warmth to cap 3. The great thing about Marmot's is the Cocona (activated carbon from coconuts) which due to it's high surface area will wick incredibly fast to keep you dry, block uv and finally adsorbs odors without any chemical treatments.

Perfect weight

This is a perfect layering top if you like a heavier base layer and just a shell. It wicks really well and has a nice soft feel. Fit is very true to size with a nice athletic taper at the waist.

I've never found any synthetic better for moisture management than Lifa, but the marmot layer doesn't smell as awful, also a looser fit, so better in a more casual setting.

Best shirt I've ever owned

By:
April 17, 2010

I wore this for nearly three weeks straight while traveling through Siberia this winter and it totally exceeded my expectations. I had one extra set of thermals that supposedly had silver in it to cut down on odor, but it always began to smell after 24 hours and weighed twice as much as this shirt. I wore the marmot thermals practically the entire time and went up to a week without washing it with absolutely NO stench. Probably could have gone longer but that just seemed gross.

Next time I travel internationally for an extended period of time I'm just packing a couple changes of this shirt in a backpack. The odor control is amazing and it's super comfortable.

Comfortable but too loose fitting

By:
January 23, 2010

I read great reviews on numerous sites about this baselayer piece, so I decided to give it a go. Comfort of the material on the skin is second to none. Its warm and wicks sweat well. My only qualm is the fit - its shorter and a more relaxed fit than most base layers. I decided it was an acceptable drawback and worth keeping considering its comfort. But with increased wear (first two months), it stretched (in the waist and wrist cuffs) and that relaxed fit became even more relaxed. It was hard keeping it tucked into pant waist when exercising (running, hiking), and the wrist cuffs once stretched some, did not return to size. Though the material itself is quite warm, the relaxed fit in both waist/mid-section and cuffs allowed drafts to enter, reducing the shirt's overall warmth. For these reasons, it was returned.

I'm 5'10 145lb - and wore the small - which is my normal size in other base layers (capilene, under armour). I have tall, lanky body type, and prefer more athletic form-fitting. I bought one for the girlfriend (5'3", 110 lb) - size XS, who is thin in midsection but not so tall, and she had same problem with loose midsection and too short. hers was also returned - preferring the Cap 3 - for its fit.

Again, comfort, warmth of the material, and wicking ability were excellent. The cocona material is most comfortable i have worn. If you have a short, stocky body type, and/or prefer more relaxed fitting base layer, than this may be for you - and would probalby rate a 5 star. But if you are looking for a form-fitting base layer look elsewhere.

Warm and Comfy

By:
October 11, 2009

This top is very light, but as far as warmth it is definitely just right for a mid-weight. The inside of this is super soft and comfy. Blocks wind like a brick wall yet doesn't feel too hot. My only complaint is the sizing. I have other Marmot tops and the mediums fit just as I want them to (5'11, 175 lbs) but this medium fits like a generous large.

Great fit, great material, great all around. Plan on this doing the trick when your out in the cold. Marmot has the best fit and feel of all the baselayers in my opinion.

came in the mail and i put it on, until a week later when my girlfriend made me take it off because she was bored of looking at it. somewhere between light and medium, feels like a long-sleeved t-shirt, keeps cool and warm. recommended.

Wow, awesome shirt!

By:
February 23, 2009

I really wasn't sure about the color of this shirt and still aren't, but it fits perfectly and boy is it toasty! I'm definitely keeping it! It's not too form fitting, but doesn't bunch up if you wear other layers over it.

Large fit

By:
August 20, 2008

Own several pieces of marmot gear and have consistently been size large, which is consistent with their sizing charts. The large of this piece is fairly loose compared to other bits of gear so consider sizing down if want a trim fit. Been great so far, planning to give it more rigourous testing in a couple of weeks with a winter trip to alpine regions
