Item # MAR1726

Pull on the Marmot Gravity Softshell Jacket for your next cross-country ski tour or run. The highly breathable M1 fabric is ideal for aerobic activities where you are generating heat.

  • Marmot M1 Softshell fabric is highly breathable, as well as wind- and water-resistant
  • Angel-Wing Movement increases arm mobility without causing the jacket to rise up

Marmot M1 for highly aerobic activities in the mountains.

Very nice jacket

Got this for my GF in a two-tone purple. She loves the color and the design. She's 5'9", 135lb, and the medium wasn't quite form-fitting, which was ok for her purposes. In fact, I think it's both a bit roomier and a bit longer than you'd expect for a medium.

The only drawback, and we've seen this in other Marmot jackets and other brands as well - the armpits are just a bit too tight. I don't have this problem on my men's jackets, but it's something that's common in women's jackets. Maybe her shoulders are just a bit broad, but otherwise, she's a medium in every other dimension. Honestly, it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more space under the arms, especially for something that could in theory go over an insulating layer.

I wanא to buy a windproof and waterproof Jacket for my girl and I have narrowed it down to 4 possible models:

Marmot Gravity Softshell Jacket - Women's

Marmot Altitude Softshell Jacket - Women's

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Guide Softshell Jacket - Women's

What do you think I should get considering water resistance, warmth, breathebility and general comfort (not too densed).
I don't know if it matters but she is a Medium size by the Marmot sizes....

Thanks!!!

Love the Combined Colors!

By:
March 1, 2011

This is my first purchase for a Marmot Jacket. I love the design of this jacket. It's warm, comfortable and stylish. The left arm side pocket allows me to hold my I-Pod while I am running outdoors. The only imperfect about this jacket is it tend to run a little big on me. I am 5' 5 1/2" and weigh114 Lbs. I think I fit better with an x-small However, I do not plan to exchange for a smaller size since I think it would still look good when wearing a light jacket inside with a hood.

Marmot M1 softshells are classified as the most weather resistant; where on the other hand, the M3 series is considered the most breathable. M2 is in-between- will provide good weather protect, while maintain some breathability.

Good jacket but not as advertised

By:
February 22, 2011

This jacket was just tested in the Swiss Alps...it is not as advertised. It is an attractive and functional jacket but doesn't block the wind as they claim and isn't as warm either. The jacket runs small for a medium...was disappointed with the fit as they advertise a medium works for a 5'5 frame...I'm of an athletic build...it was tight in the shoulders. Am going to sell this jacket on Ebay and buy a larger one in this color and size...the sales personnel at Backcountry told me it would fit but didn't mention how snug. It fits well without a camera or cell phone in the pocket but honestly...would you ski without something like a camera in the pocket? Marmot products are great and guaranteed for life but wouldn't buy this solely for skiing if I were you...light hiking maybe or make sure you buy a size larger than you normally wear.

Don't suppose you still have this jacket to sell? The color combination looks awesome, but I don't think it's available any longer.

Write your question here...I am wondering about sizing info with the Marmot Gravity jacket- Alice has an 3-4 yr old jacket size Med. I replaced her jacket locally but Med seems (is) cut slimmer- do you have any info? Did the red jacket stretch???

OK for casual/camp use, not so good for aerobic use

By:
February 12, 2011

My wife got this jacket last season. She likes the fit and the look, but for aerobic activities it falls flat. She found that it breathed about as well as your average hard shell, but worse than her eVent shell. This was disappointing, especially as it is billed for "highly aerobic" activities. It's been relegated to casual duty only, and we're looking for a replacement to actually use climbing, hiking, running and cross country skiing.
