Yep, I agree with Dave on the warmth analogy: not as warm as say, these pieces: Rab Xenon, Stoic Luft, MH Compressor, but warmer than the TNF Zephyrus (40 grams PL), and comparable to the Patagonia Nano Puffs (60 grams).

It has no grams of Primaloft. Marmot uses Thermal R Eco insulation. It's closest to 60g Primaloft in warmth.

Great jacket

Once again marmot makes a great jacket. I am a gear snob and rarely find something to be perfect but this is pretty darn close. Keeps you warm but breaths well. Colors are great too. Well done marmot!

Man this jacket is awesome. Very comfortable, very versatile. Every feature was well thought and clearly tested. Everything I was looking for in a superlight, synthetic jacket

I know the patchy construction of other synthetic jackets is to prevent the insulation from clumping. Since this isn't patchy like those, does that mean it will become clumpy over time? Or is there a design feature I don't see?

The insulation is likely of a non shifting design so no baffling is necessary as it won't clump up. The baffled design is most often seen on down pieces rather than synthetics.

I think you are comparing this to Arcteryx's technical shells, which are not insulated. This will be much warmer as it is insulated.

I'm 6'1 165lbs and the Medium fits me perfect. I never really had any Marmot gear, but now that I've picked up some of their products I'm sticking with em'. They seem to fit me perfect (tall european athletic build with broad shoulders and a skinny waist). The arms fit great and the body isn't to big.

Now to performance: It's heat to weight ratio it's sick. It folds into itself and I can stuff it into my ski jacket pocket on in between days if I need more insulation. It fits perfect as an underlayer while touring and lift serving and it doesn't feel like I'm even wearing anything while it's on. Also, I wear it around town in anything 25 and above and it's held up great especially on the dry days. If there's humidity in the air (not often here) it's no good below 35, though....

Another perk is it's synthetic (good and bad depending on usage - no doubt here) so if/when it gets wet it doesn't loose all it's warmth which makes it great for underlaying on snowy days.

I was hoping to use this to layer under my Marmot Rom jacket

I was hoping to use this to layer under my Marmot Rom jacket on really cold days but the sleeves of the Rom are too tight and I loose all the loft. Does anyone have any thoughts as to a better option for this. Does the Marmot Verticle have more room for layering? Otherwise I like both jackets mentioned a lot.

The Vertical Jacket is designed as s ski soft shell and has extra room for layering, so it should work better than the ROM if you want to layer a Baffin underneath. That combo should be nice and toasty.

It will fit over a climbing helmet no problem. Might be a bit snug to fit over a ski helmet.

Awesome jacket. Keeps me warm when temps are below freezing and still breathable enough to wear when it's 60 out. Super lightweight and I got it on sale for $120. Great jacket and definitely comparable to Patagonia's Nano-Puff.

How do the Marmot Baffin Island, Marmot Cauldron and Mtn Hardware

How do the Marmot Baffin Island, Marmot Cauldron and Mtn Hardware Compressor PL hooded jackets compare in terms of warmth, compressibility, pocket location and fit (loose or fitted)? I'm looking for a packable, hooded synthetic jacket for general use and stuffing in my ski or hiking pack.

Yeah, this would be just fine for that. Plenty warm down to a little below freezing. The hood is a nice addition too.

Just bought this as my primary casusal winter jacket in Nashville, TN. We have fairly mild winters: in the 20s and 30s F at its coldest. Do you think this jacket will be adquate? It seems so light. I really like it but mainly just want to be warm.

Hi Kyle! It always depends on what kind of temps you're used to - but this jacket *is* insulated and pretty warm. Unless you're really really sensitive to cold temps, it should definitely keep you warm in the 20s and 30s. :)
