When you’re pulled toward the mountains by some magnetic-like force, come prepared for the cold with the Mammut Women’s Pilgrim Down Jacket. Mountain travelers of any breed will appreciate the compressible 650-fill goose down that fends off alpine cold from base camp to the bivy ledge. Mammut included a stuff sack for easy packing, a removable hood for more casual days, and lycra wrist gaiters to keep out snow and cold air.
Picked this jacket up on SAC for a great price and have been extremely satisfied since. This is my gf's new all-around jacket. It is exceptionally warm and has kept her warm to the single digits with only a light shirt underneath. Its gives a minimal "michelan man" look considering its has 650 down fill in it (though some bulk is expected given its fill). 5'4" and the small fits perfectly.
The jacket comes with a stuff sack, that when you stuff the jacket in, it stuffs down to about the size of 2 nalgenes. From there, you can easily stuff it down further, either with compression straps or simply just by stuffing it somewhere small in your pack. Dont' let the "size of 2 nalgenes" turn you off, this jacket gets much smaller than the stuff sack it comes in.
One of the best features is that the hood comes off. This is great for skiing so you don't have to stuff the head under your outer shell and look like the hunchback of notre dame (assuming you wear a helmet and are not using the hood). The internal pocket is nice if you don't want something to freeze. Another feature is that the jacket has thumb loops to put your thumbs through. This is not only good for keeping your hands warm but for layering and keeping the jacket arms in place.
The jacket also makes a dynamite tent pillow if you're not sleeping in it. On sale for $160 against the $230 sticker, you can't go wrong.
I have taken this jacket on a hiking trip for 2 months through the Nepalese Himalaya' and it performed brilliantly! Snug feminine fit and light weight makes it feel warm and toasty just what you want and need when it is literally freezing outside. The cut of this jacket is also quite flattering the way that the baffles of down have been sewn so you don't look like a michelin man. I highly recommend and would buy this same jacket many times over. It is so comfy I now live in this jacket whenever the mercury drops!!
When did you go? I'm looking for a jacket that will be warm enough for the Annapurna Circuit in December but I'm worried that this won't be warm enough, especially for the passes.
I am 5'4" and 135 with a 36" bust and an A cup. Based on reviews, I ordered a size S and intended for this to be my more fashionable puffer(was not planning on wearing it on an expedition so didn't need a lot of room underneath...I have another frumpy old belay jacket that I use for that). I wear a size 8 pant usually...therein lies the problem: This jacket looks very well made and the contouring of the down is flattering. However I couldn't zip the jacket as it fell at my high hips-- I had to lift it up to my waist to get the zipper to meet. I am a bit curvy but not extremely so. Once zipped, it did not fall cleanly on my body but rather bunched at the bottom.
does this jacket ride up a lot when you raise your arms? I have
does this jacket ride up a lot when you raise your arms? I have a northface nuptse down jacket right now, but when I raise my arms it rides up and lets the cold in. extremely annoying, especially for belaying

I am looking for a layer to wear under my Marmot Fjell shell.
I am looking for a layer to wear under my Marmot Fjell shell. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what down won't be to bulky but keep me warm on those SUPER cold new england ski days. A hood and angel arms are crucial.
eh- I don't think I'd recommend this one- this is definitely more of a 'wear alone' piece. If you're going to layer it with a shell I'd recommend a Patagonia Down Sweater, North Face Diez Down (800 fill power so it might be your best bet if you get as cold as I do) or one of the Mont Bell down inner parkas. Great jacket, I just don't think it would work well as an inner layer.
is there a two-way zip on the jacket?
are the sleeves long enough
is there a two-way zip on the jacket? are the sleeves long enough for someone with loooong arms? also, i seem to be between a small and medium...would you recommend sizing up or down?
I found this jacket to run a little big and the sleeves are very long for the size. I'm 5'2" and have the xs and the sleeves hung over my finger tips. I also have the Mountain Hardwear Subzero parka which runs smaller and the sleeves are only just long enough.
The wrist gaitors here make all the difference so that will help elongate the arms. I'm 5'7 130 and have a small and it fits really well, but if you're concerned about arm length, I'd go with the medium. And the zip is one way- it's not long enough to need the 2 way zip.
LOVE my new Mammut down jacket. Fits great and warm and cozy. Love the little stretchy wrist gaiters, thumb loops are great. In the pocket was a nice stuff sack which was a nice discovery. also like the fact that the hood zips off.
The lime color in this jacket is amazing. Love the fit the wrist thingies and the zip off hood. Great stand alone jacket, not a down sweater which is what i was after.
I am looking for a warm jacket for belaying in the cold Cdn.
I am looking for a warm jacket for belaying in the cold Cdn. Rockies winters. Does this jacket have a two way zipper so it fits well with my harness? Does the sizing run true to size?
I'd highly recommend this down jacket- it's warm and packable. It's kept me toasty warm on many a cold outdoor evening. You can't see them in the images here but the wrist gaitors are my favorite feature on this jacket- super stretchy and keeps the cold air from getting in!!
My boyfriend got this for me for x-mas. I love how lightweight and packable it is (Love the little mesh stuff sack it comes with). Perfect for backpacking or climbing. I plan on using as an extra layer camping and pillow when I sleep. I like how the hood can come off and how it has wrist gaiters too. Very very warm (I live in Mammoth Lakes, CA where it snows A LOT and gets very cold). The jacket isn't long enough to cover your butt, but I'm ok with that.
This is the best down jacket I've had. I've been on the road for more than a year (climbing), and have literally made this garment my home. It's incredibly warm (with zip-off/zip-on hood), durable, and washes well. I've abused it: walked through brush, used non-front-loading-washers, line dried, packed it down, slept in it, etc... and it's still great.
A cool bonus is the in-sleeve insulating cuffs. With a thumb loop, these extend from the inside of your sleeves and fit under gloves to seal in the warmth. Especially for the cost, this jacket is an amazing buy.
Cool/ stylish quilting patter, too... a nice departure from the Michelin Man look.
how do you find the windproofness and water-resistance? also, are the sleeves a decent length even without considering the extension of the sleeve cuffs (i have a good ape-index...^^).
This is much much more than a city jacket. I've worn mine through the himalaya' and the jacket kept me warm when the temperature was freezing. It was especially nice to put on when i reached the top of 5,500 metre high mountain passes covered in snow with high winds - I would be hot and sweaty from climbing to the top but would like to stop and enjoy the beautiful view - the jacket was perfect for keeping me warm at this time.
did you buy the jacket or try it on? if so, did you use it for outdoor activities such as skiing, boarding or climbing? or is your comment just based on the appearance of the jacket? just wondering, because it's had some good reviews...
OMG, the nicest down jacket around. very warm and puffy. The ice color is beautiful. The cut is great and the hood zips off. I will wear this around town in the cold and also ski in this jacket, I don't want to take it off.
