Best of both worlds

Best mix between a focused beam and traditional flood light. Mammut uses less Lumens and gets better quality light because they have superior optics, this translates into longer battery life and a better quality light than the other companies. additional bonus is that this works with their ambient light attachment which makes the headlamp double as a lantern.

Bright light

Nice bright light. I wish it was more water resistant. The light does point straight out and can rotate down several degrees for use as a work head lamp.

How does the light switch from spot to flood beam?

How does the light switch from spot to flood beam?

Actually, there are 3 light levels. The first two are accessible by pushing the side button. The third (brightest level) is accessed by holding the button in for 3+ seconds when the headlamp on. I assume this wastes significant power, so was purposely made difficult to engage.

Focused beam

By:

The beam is very focused and isn't the best choice for lighting up a large area. However it is very bright, light, and more than does the job. In a side by side comparison with BDs competing lamp, the BD is brighter and has more varied lighting options. I wouldn't have been thrilled if i payed full price for this. Very good headlamp.

Great head torch

By:

I have been using this light for a year now and love it! It is superlight...it always finds its way into my pack for ski tours and all adventures. I even put it on the dog for walks at night. I dig the three setting which is perfect for multiple uses. Highly recommend.

Great lamp.

This is a great no frills, light weight lite. It doesnt have many bells and whistles but is plenty bright for evening treks. It your going to be doing any activity where you move faster than walking on a flat trail, i'd suggest picking up one that kicks out higher lumens.

favorite light

Super light and uber versatile. Long range spot and flood for close in light is amazing in this tiny and light package. Batteries last and last still on my original ones and have used this for hours with no loss of power. This is all you need for most tasks.

Never Been Happier With A Product

By:
May 1, 2009

So I didn't know what to buy my relatives this last X-mas, I bought my father, grandfather and 2 brother in-laws these TXlites.

They absolutley loved them!! They said they were the best presents I'd ever given them!

They loved switching back from the spot to a flood beam, and used them for everything.

My grandfather uses his daily, and calls it a miracle of modern technology!!

These were hands down the most popular presents I ever gave!

small, light, bright!

I love this little headlamp! The battery life is great and the beam is so bright! The compact size makes it easy to stuff in a pocket for evening adventures that might turn into a nighttime excursion. The combination of the spotlight with the flood is superb and provides good range and great light quality.

what you're paying for is the weight

By:
March 10, 2010

what you're paying for is the weight. it's light, as in it doesnt weigh much. i could see this as an advantage if youre using this on night runs or if you're packing for a camping trip and weight is critical. but it's not waterproof nor is the light output the greatest at this pricepoint. even at SAC prices, there are better options out there if you are not a weight weeny.i was using this as a headlamp while biking. but had to remove it from my helmet every time it rained. i ended up replacing it with a Tikka 2 Plus. the tikka has more features and is waterproof.BTW. the description says that it has 3 brightness settings. mine only has 2; bright and brighter. are they counting OFF as a brightness setting? or does the updated version have 3 settings?

-- update --

ok, there is indeed a 3rd setting as pointed out by a helpful user. but my 3 star rating still stands.

I routinely use mine in pouring rain without issue. Unless you're planning to swim underwater with it, it'll function just fine.

Seriously...read the instructions before just trying to figure things out. I, too have the older one. The 3rd light setting is attained by a) being in the 2nd brightest setting and b) holding down the button for 2-3 seconds. No, its not the simplest way to get to the 3rd setting but it works.
