Size up

By:
May 25, 2012

I followed the recommendation to buy a size up. I did, and it's still skintight, but would have been grossly so had I ordered the recommended size. Itchy at first, but likely will be cured with a wash or two. The red "Lush" is really pretty. Nice are and torso length.

lightweight and good length

By:
June 28, 2011

The Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Oasis Crew is a great lightweight merino thermal. It doesn't take on odour smells from use when cycling or running. I have owned a variety of thermals and this has the best fit and the best length. I definitely recommend this product!

Great shirt!!

By:
June 17, 2011

Just got the shirt in and it's nice!! Athletic fit, good for movement, and flattering. I ordered a large so I have a little slack for undershirt. Sleeves are a little long but no problem. Neck is high for cold not scooped down. I'm looking forward to using in fall and winter hiking and cross country skiing. I already have a wool t-shirt (of another brand) so I'm expecting the same great properties. Fantastic for backpacking. These garment are how you transition to light and ultra light!! The non-stink factor is true also. I rarely use any synthetic short sleeved shirts in warm weather now. At this sale price don't wait - just order. Lisa from Maryland

Merino is awesome

By:
December 12, 2011

Merino is nice for cold weather running, or any other activity. Haven't used for warm weather yet, but this is great. Size is OK, maybe runs a little large. No probs with itchiness, washing is no problem, no shrinkage.

My new go-to base layer

By:
November 29, 2011

I own two of these tops, one in light gray and one in horizon/petunia, which is a really nice deep purple color. I've used them solo for hot, sunny approaches as well as a base layer when mountaineering or ice climbing. They do a great job of keeping me warm or cool as the activity requires. I especially love them for cold weather aerobic activities.

Before I got these, my go-to base layer was Patagonia Capilene, and I absolutely loved it and never had a single issue with it UNTIL I tried wool! This top doesn't retain odors and doesn't stink (can't say that much for Capilene), even after I wore them every day for a week straight on a mountaineering trip. I was worried about itching with wool as I have sensitive skin, but even when I was going hard, this top remained comfortable. I'm going on a three-week trip in a month and I've switched out all my next-to-skin base layers for wool.

I'm usually an XS (5'2", 100 lbs, petite frame) and the XS is "form fitting" while the S is "form skimming" on me. I could have worn either size but I kept the XS because I'm usually rocking a few layers so I like my base layers to be fitted. The sleeves are the perfect length and the top hits me mid-hip.

Nice baselayer or standalone

By:
November 5, 2011

Reviewing on behalf of my wife:
Good lightweight base layer or standalone shirt. Some baselayers don't like to see the light of day by themselves, this is not one of those. In our experience, Icebreaker wool tends to be soft and smooth, and this is no exception. 200 weight is nice and light without being seethrough like some 150 weight wools can be. And like all merino stuff, it doesn't smell for a long time.

The perfect shirt for my wife is slim through the body with long arms, and Icebreaker sizing seems to fit that perfectly.

They're pretty "slim-fit." My wife & I both have the tops and bottoms. They're designed to be next-to-skin tight without being restrictive or uncomfortable.

By:
October 12, 2011

Originally purchased it as a layering piece for some climbs in Ecuador, but I wear it so often that I ordered more. Super soft, well-cut, and the sleeves on the small fit my long arms (I'm 5'8"). The Horizon/Petunia color is great!

Nice bright blue. Smallest (narrowest) crew neck I've ever owned. Quality is great, but it's almost choking at the neckline. Sadly, back it goes.

Pricey but nice

By:
May 18, 2011

Athletic, slim fit. Unless you want it hugging your skin, size up. The gray has a nice subtle texture; not a boring solid color. The Horizon/Petunia looks blue on my computer screen but in person it's really deep purple.

Power to the Icebreaker

By:

All action, with or without a pack on, this top performed in all weather and with no stink. When you eventually do wash it, it washes and wears like a dream. I could live happily in this top.

The best top ever!!

By:
November 24, 2010

Material? Soft & cozy. Fit? Snug - I usually get size small, but the medium is perfect, and allows me to wear the top alone. Sleeves a molecule too long. I wear this as a first layer under any number of layers, depending on weather. Also wear it as my only layer. This is a must-have, year-round, all-activity top.

Instant favorite

By:
June 30, 2010

Was a little skeptical of Icebreaker (and wool in general), but a friend's rec convinced me I needed to try it -- glad I did. Fit is true to size, nice color (Fiesta is not as hot-pink as it appears...which is a good thing), and I didn't find it too itchy on a pre-wash wearing. Wore it in the rain on a 5K and I felt damp but not cold, and it dried super-fast. Anti-stink is such a nice bonus especially when you're far from laundry facilities. Will definitely buy a short-sleeve as well.

icebreaker is awesome!

By:
April 14, 2010

The oasis crew from icebreaker would have to one of the most well-worn pieces of clothing in my wardrobe. I mostly use this top for running in mild to cool-ish conditions. The merino breathes amazingly well. I still feel the top holds its warmth even when it gets damp. The ability of merino to not get stinky like other synthetic tops is true as well!

But, as a running top, it does have a high neck - which might annoy some people, and the sleeves are long - but this is because its designed to be a next to skin thermal layer.

Highly recommended...great buy (and worth it the expense!).

I bought a black one last winter and it is still holding its shape and retained its color - love it! It kept me warm afterward on many streneous hikes up the mountain and did I mentioned how little space it takes up in a backpack. I just bought another one in Salsa, great color and great price.

May 13, 2009

I bought this shirt last fall and have lived in it since.
Skiing, gardening, hanging around the house...It's the first one I look for.

The first couple wearings were a little itchy--I washed inside out with jeans and have been fine.

A worthy investment considering the usage and the cut is feminine and fitted. I bought the pea a really ncue shade of green.

You really hit the nail on the head with the washing. A lot of people think that the shirt is itchy, but as Icebreaker said in their care instructions, you've gotta wear it for a couple of times, then wash it inside out with some hard fabric such as jeans to help remove the loose fiber. It worked for me, and it looks like it worked for you as well.

soft & warm!

By:
February 2, 2009

Ordered this shirt upon the recommendation of a friend after complaining about not being able to find underlayer tops with long enough sleeves to fit my arms. This one fits great! I purchased a small which fits well, but if I order another one I'll probably go with a medium. It's super soft, and warm without the bulk! So sweet!

Another winner from Icebreaker

By:
December 22, 2008

Love this! The fit is great and the material is wonderful. This is perfect as a base layer in the Winter and wear alone in the Spring. Since I don't like to wear too many layers, keeping this for Spring, I also ordered a 260 to wear underneath a NorthFace Hybrid vest for snowshoeing in Vancouver, BC.

Icebreaker Is A Winter Staple

By: Departmentofgoods.com Employee
November 11, 2008

I'm a wool convert for pretty much all of my long underwear needs. I find wool to be less smelly and warmer when damp than synthetics. Icebreaker wool is top of the line merino wool from New Zealand, and it's never itchy. I find I can wear the BodyFit 200 Oasis Crewe Top for a few days straight for skiing, and it's a perfect base layer in all conditions. It's easy to wash in the machine on warm, and then it quickly air dries. Though Icebreaker is expensive, I highly recommmend the line and think it's worth the extra money.

This wool top fits well and is very comfortable. (I felt just the teeniest, slightest itch at first, but that went away.) It's a great base layer for cross-country skiing, and for ordinary wear, under regular clothes, in the winter. Sleeves are long enough (not always the case for me). The top is form-fitting (without being restrictive), so it's good to wear under turtlenecks. I'm an Icebreaker convert.

Another one our daughter loves. She wears it as a base layer to school on cold days and again it's a must for her upcoming school trip in Chicagoland this week and for our skiing weekends. It's pretty, soft and comfy. And it doesn't smell bad. Excellent product!

one of my favorites

By:
January 16, 2008

This and the tech top are my two favorite Icebreakers. This one is so flattering and comfortable. I wear it as often as I can. I was really skeptical about the anti-stink claim but it's true. I wear my shirts many times before I wash them and only then because I think they must be dirty, not because they seem so.
