Rely on the GORE Bike Wear Power 2.0 Short to keep you comfy through medium- to long-distance rides. The short's Power chamois provides an ergonomic fit along with stretch, ventilation, and breathability to get you through an extra-long training ride without pain, at least not where it counts. Material feels softer than a lot of bike shorts (good soft, not weak soft). Haven't yet ridden them, but I agree with the reviewer who said the leg openings are large. I'd say don't size up unless your speed skater friends with their tree-trunk thighs think you have bulky legs (if 10 years of soccer with the frame of a German farmer can't get your quads big enough to fill out a pair of bike shorts, not much can).
I'm 5'10", 190lbs - 35.5" waist, 42" hips, 23.5" thighs, and an XL is *almost* too big (not loose, but not terribly compressive). It's hard to say exactly how well they fit because my last pair of shorts was on the tight side, so my calibration for what feels like a good fit is off. I'll try to remember to update this review after I give them a try.
